I've read maybe 400 of these postings about Ms. Palin. Well, there's much to say. But I want to keep this succinct.
Once Upon a Time, John McCain was a pioneer in the contemporary mess of Republicans. He espoused pro-choice (or, kept quiet about it). He called himself an "independent," and truly wooed even Democrats like me.
Now, McCain chooses a woman (who, he surely would NOT have chosen were she a man) who scares me, well, a whole lot.
Many of you have posted thanks that she is not a "baby killer." But she is.
She postulates NO CHOICE in the abortion issue. Yet, and this is the rub, she seems to have concern about the born or unborn children coming into the future. A future that far supersedes "terrorism," or economics. A future that is going to hell (or ice) because she has no concern about the environmental crisis.
She likes to shoot animals from an helicopter. Cool. She likes to espouse (in a recent editorial) that polar bears seem "cute and cuddly," but have nothing to do with the "real" issues at hand.
I propose that McCain and Palin imagine the world in 20 years. with their policies. We will have a few drips of oil, in a ravaged state that is her own. We will have desperate people drilling everywhere. The sea level will rise and override many cities. Animals will be extinct, including the "cute" polar bear. But, more menacing, war will be at the Gate. For food, shelter, water. Please read the Pentagon's papers to W.
She (and McCain) have no sense of the future. I have two young children. We no more can find turtles or frogs in the woods anymore. Ms. Palin: What is your stance for BORN children? McCain: You are a person at the last straw, who will change your mind for anyone.
Damnit. Does anyone get the menace of global warming?
I meant to say, "she has NO concern....." That was a stupid typo, but not "unconscious.
Apparently, you cut your letters short after a certain quantity. My letter was posted, as were many others. . .then poof! Gone! Please, let us readers and writers know when our writings will be extinguished.
Thank you.
Again, how does this forum actually Work? One types in "newest," and gets hits from two days ago. Then, "next page," and one gets hits from two days ago.
Clean thou self up, Salon! I am pleased (and of course pissed) about all of the random rants--they're tortuous and frustrating and funny and sometimes quite educational. Usually not the latter, but there are exceptions.
I digress. Either post "newest" as the latest, or have an explanation as to why this "button" doesn't work.
My humble opinion:
Sort. Sort by "pro" or "anti" Republican; sort by "Editor's choice;" sort by name sent and repies to such, etc.
Or: State that you will cut off at a certain number of posts. I frankly don't give a whit that my stuff wasn't posted, and that's the truth. But, please do a better job at organizing. You're a great site. But you suck (sorry, ad hominem) at this forum.
Hmmm.
Sarah Palin is not running for president. Yet, she seems to be.
Britney Spears, anyone? Paris Hilton? Oh, sorry, not the beehive nor the glasses.
My take: Ms. Palin, you are NO FAMILY VALUES. Nor, Sen. McCain (whom is, by the way, the man running). If one had "family values," then one would understand that Global Warming is far more a threat than terrorism; than teen pregnancy; than even the economic crisis we face. My two children, young, and children unborn, will face a world disintegrating. No, this is not "chicken little." Pls read the Pentagon Papers, until now "classified." Should one truly care about children, then one must remove designer spectacles, remove mypoia, and stare nakedly into what will come with "Drill, Baby, Drill."
Yeah, killing wolves by helicopter is a video game. Yeah, suing the government to remove polar bears from the endangered list is a quick fix for more oil. Sarah, dear; John, dear; what will your grandchildren face?
Family values, my ass. Values mean a whole lot more than the 2008 election, or even the four years to come. Bush wreaked hell on the environment. Four years may be a century or more to our planet.
No chicken little here. I'm poor, economics is a big issue. But, it's paltry compared with the Forest. Trees, who the hell cares?
