Original article: A party is not a movement

@hatchshin

We can all stand on our ideals and vote for Nader in '12 and watch the Republicans steal back the presidency or we can get realistic and work within the confines of the reality of the scope of change that the American people can tolerate.

If we worked within the scope of change that the American people can tolerate, there would be no change. Obama would have needed to pass a literacy test to vote after he paid his poll tax. It would be wondrous if he could read that well after his 6 or 8 years in a segregated school. And I shudder to think what would of happened to his Mom when it was noticed that little Barack was a rather dark baby with tightly curled hair.

BTW - it wasn't Nader that cost Gore the election in 2000, it was the Blue Dogs that voted for Bush when Gore was afraid to run on the record of an Administration that he was a part of for eight years. People can tell a phony - the stench carries. But Al learned that too late.

You Suffer for Us All

Alex, thanks for reading this tripe so that we don't have to.

@ Benthead

I really started to notice the crazy after Joan went on O'Reilly's show. But, there have always been a few around.

It sort of gives me a new respect for Elephantman, at least he tries to argue a position. Most of the rest I put in the same class as that annoying commercial spam that pops up from time to time.

When the Going Gets Weird ....

I twigged to the idea that it was a joke at about the same point that thorin01 did, but jeeze it says a lot about the state of things that it took that long.

Original article: Rep. Jean Schmidt, Birther

@ Said dustari

Do birthers get reborn, or do they just fade away? Neither, they just go bad and stay in the corner until someone notices the smell.

BTW - if Rep. Schmidt believes that Obama is holding his office in violation of the Constitution, isn't it her duty to try and get him impeached? After all, the courts have no real say in that. The Supremes just get to play referees at the trial.

I Guees That's One Way To Look At It

I did love Boustenay's characterization of Obama's proposal to save $500 Bn on Medicare without decreasing services as, IIRC, "Cutting Medicare by $500 Billion without improving it". Gosh, I guess in his world the Republicans came in second and Obama next-to-last tonight.

Now, that said, I think expectations of funding through savings are a little rosy. Yes, we could indeed pay for it with the money that was spent in Iraq and Afghanistan, or with the money transferred fro the middle class to the wealthy with Bush's tax cuts, but I think that Congress is unlikely to pass up a war or making the rich richer just to help sick people. The sick people don't contribute enough to campaign funds.

Why to do it

From Josh Marshall (click on the sig):

There is one other thought that occurs to me though. Given how many the tea-bagging right has rallied around Wilson, I don't think many House Republicans want to have that vote. They don't want to vote to censure him. On the other hand, voting in support of him would be a little troubling for a lot of voters too. So maybe there's better politics to this than I thought.

Sounds like a good enough reason.

Original article: Santorum pre-buts Obama

A Prediction

I don't normally make predictions about elections this far out, but I feel on pretty safe ground here. The 2012 election is going to give a new definition to the word "nasty". Not necessarily to the "official" campaigns, but watch the right-wing 537s.

Oh, and I fully expect Glenn Beck to announce that Obama eats little white babies for breakfast.

Calls 'Em Like He Sees 'Em

You know, I wasn't that fond of him while he was in office, but since 1980, he's really done us all proud. He's right on this issue as well.

There is just no way that the White House can enter this discussion, it would just make Obama look whiny or worse. Carter has no dog in this fight and I think he's making an honest call.

BTW - Mr Klein, recognizing that Israel is creating a Palestinian bantustan doesn't make one a bigot or a Jew-hater. Just non-delusional.

Both are just examples of saying that there's an elephant in the room.

Original article: The czar madness won't end

A Bit of a Broad Brush

... a measure that would prohibit any presidential advisor who hasn't been approved by the Senate from receiving a taxpayer-funded salary.

That would include the President's Chief of Staff and all his assistants, the White House Counsel, and scads of others.

I think they're forgetting that there will be Republicans presidents again someday.

"Blount" vs "Blunt"

Just so everyone's clear, Roy BLUNT is the peckerhead Congressman from Missouri Roy BLOUNT Jr. is a humorist from Indiana who is frequently on NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me".

Click on the sig for a Time magazine article from 1964. Jeez, it's like deja vu all over again.

Geez, what's he going to say when he finds out about the mandatory group marriage law that comes next year?

Original article: Deal with it, liberals

Deal With It ...

And deal with it we will.

If Olympia Snowe's vote is more important than mine, OK it's their choice. If they want to coddle the Right, they shouldn't be too surprised if the Left isn't there come next November.

The Real Problem

It seems that the punditocracy is all ready (with a few notable exceptions) to start another splendid little war. The reason, as best I can tell, is that Iran has a "bad attitude".

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 06:28 PM

@wysiwyg

I must confess, you are using a definition of "really soon" with which I am not familiar.
