A Santayana Moment

If these crimes are allowed to slide, they will be repeated. If we don't deal with them at home, the international community will probably be happy to do it for us.

Those who believe that "moving forward" means sweeping criminal behavior under the rug are wrong and, to a large degree, self-serving. By avoiding "unpleasantness", they feel that we can dodge the fact that the US is not exceptional, that we are just as capable and thereby avoid looking at just what we're capable of.

I do understand the fear, not unjustified, that if these investigations start, they will suck all the oxygen out of the room and nothing else will get done. But to ignore it will mean that we're building the future on a foundation of sand.

Not unlike a person who figures that if they don't go to the doctor, that going dark patch their skin will not be a melanoma.

How Is It ...

that Harry Reid can manage to look weak even when he's doing the right thing? This wound is truly self-inflicted.

Is anyone challenging this jellyfish for Majority Leader?

A Man of Rare Ability

It's touching to see that his faith in The Big Lie is still intact. The man has an absolutely incredible ability to stare Reality in the eye and deny that he sees anything.

Rufus T. Firefly would be proud

@ mapster

For what it's worth, hollow-point and soft-point bullets are designed as hunting rounds. The idea being that they cause large amounts of damage and kill the animal quickly. They are not military rounds, which are required to be solid and have the proverbial "full metal jacket", and the use of hollow-point bullets by a combatant is recognized as a war crime.

Once Again ...

the GOP gets a chance to show that in their lexicon "bipartisan" means "do it our way".

Thursday, January 29, 2009 08:15 AM

THAT Worked Well

Evidently, the Dems need to adjust their definition of "bipartisan" to match that GOPs. The simple reply should be:

"Until you come up with constructive suggestions that some of your members would be willing to vote for - Fuck You. Oh, and if your Senate members want to filibuster, they should bring a lunch and some throat lozenges."

The Man's Own Words

The transcript from Limbaugh's own site:

If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down. And I would be encouraging Republicans to lay down and support him. Look, what he's talking about is the absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care. I do not want the government in charge of all of these things. I don't want this to work. So I'm thinking of replying to the guy, "Okay, I'll send you a response, but I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails." (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here's the point. Everybody thinks it's outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, "Oh, you can't do that." Why not? Why is it any different, what's new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what's gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don't care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails." Somebody's gotta say it.

I think that his meaning is clear, he wasn't just hoping that liberalism fails, he wants a failed administration.

Now, I'll go take a shower ...

So, It's All True Except For ...

1. Who was there

2. When it happened

3. What happened

Other than that it was all true.

Boy I feel better, for a second I thought a GOP politician might have been lying.

The Hurricane Katrina response was just another reason why people who think that "government's not the solution, it's the problem" should be allowed no where near it.

As They Say ...

When a person's paycheck depends on their not understanding something, it becomes awfully hard to explain it to them.

"The Party of Freedom"

Rudy Giuliani declared that the GOP was "The Party of Freedom" back in 2007. And I note that they are very pro-choice - as long as you choose the way they want you to.

And on Steele's mother's choice, he doesn't look like he was born after Roe v. Wade, so what choice would that be? Will E-man show up to detail her wonderful options?

Parties

"Chairman Steele, as the leader of America's Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform," Blackwell told the conservative Web site Townhall. "He then needs to get to work -- or get out of the way."

Europe has a Christian Democrat party, I guess Blackwell would like the US to have a "Christian Republican" party.

Man, that's a relief ...

... McConnell -- the Senate Republican leader and, effectively, President Obama's most powerful GOP adversary -- made it abundantly clear that he already regards the administration as something between a misguided failure and an absolute disaster.

This statement heartens me greatly. Unfortunately, I think McConnell's wrong on Obama's moving things to the left.

I have no doubt ...

that some GOP insiders would grumble about anything Steele did, didn't do, or sort of did.
