@ Amerigo

Interesting, I didn't think that three generations would be enough, obviously you live in a neighborhood where standards are slipping.

Also, doesn't CRA really stand for the Campaign for Real Ale (follow the link)? See even after eight or ten generations, some of us don't qualify - I insist on good beer and have been known to drink spoiled grape juice from time to time, so I can't be real.

@marktgarten

My family came to America when Massachusetts was two colonies. Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth. But of course the fact that it was Massachusetts they came to automatically rules me out as a "real" American.

But ersatz is OK with me, because that way I can drive a foreign car, watch foreign movies, and even go to (dare I say it?) FRANCE if I want.

Sorry to shock any real Americans with a reference to that country between the UK and Germany in case any are reading this. But then, I also figure that real Americans don't read Salon except to get points that they can redeem from prizes from the McCain campaign when they troll. I figure E-man's due an F-150 by now.

Aw C'mon ...

It's not like any real Americans are being disenfranchised. It's just those godless atheist latte-sippin' libruls.

@WarLord

After Frank Murkowski resigned his senate seat to become governor and then appointed his daughter Lisa to finish out his senate term, Alaskans took away the power of the governor to appoint people to fill senate vacancies. They're all special elections now.

I think this effectively removes the chance of Palin ever becoming a senator, or s one would hope.

NBC & Conflict of Interest

Chris Matthews has every right to run for the Senate but he shouldn’t risk NBC’s credibility or undermine the faith his viewers place in him. To avoid the appearance of conflict, Chris should do the right thing and remove himself from the air until he has made a decision. If he won’t do it, NBC should suspend him.

Apparently Singer doesn't read Glenn Greenwald's blog. I'm not sure that NBC has much credibility to risk, or is it only retired Generals that can have conflicts?

The Saddest Words ...

And to think - it could have been that way. It boggles the mind to think how much was wasted, or just plain thrown away, and how little was gained by it.

Franklin said that "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.", well we got what we deserved.

I get the joke, but I'm not laughing.

@ Zandru

Of course. Silly me I don't know what I could have been thinking!

Thanks for straightening me out, now I realize that if I put on the right glasses, my bad attitude goes away and the world looks just wonderful ;-).

So Keep Him, Then

Traditionally, all the U.S. attorneys would offer their resignation upon Obama's inauguration. But appointing someone new to the office in the middle of a politically sensitive prosecution could pose problems.

There's no reason that Fitzgerald's resignation needs to be sought, or accepted. He seems to be a stand-up guy, so keep him and let the USA out in California who says she won't resign know she's fired. That should preempt the calls that are sure to come that her firing was politically motivated.

Also, any reason why Fitzgerald's name is highlighted in the post?

My Dog ...

is loyal, brave, kind, and is good company. He has never hurt anyone that I know of.

He was found as a stray on the streets of Everett, WA and taken to a no-kill shelter where we adopted him. He is happy to have a warm bed, regular meals, rides in the car, scratches behind the ear, and knows not to shit where he eats.

I only wish that George Bush would be like my dog.

Gee, on "The Librarian" this weekend, I heard it had to be an aspen stake. It's so hard to get good information on the undead ...

@jschultz

Actually, you first read that right here in the War Room. They have since backed away. Yes, Congress did extend the invitation, but at Obama's request.

Just What Help Are They Expecting

Said Fabrizi, "[The Democratic State Central Committee] did the right thing because they are going to need his help.

Unintentional comedy - you've got to love it.

@ Dana

Way to bring it home!

BTW - wait500, the whole thing about "rights" is that they're not up for a popular vote, they're there to protect an unpopular minority from the tyranny of majority. If the California voters want to enshrine bigotry in their Constitution, let them amend it.

Your concession, or lack thereof, has nothing to do with whether or not this is a civil rights issue.

Original article: About that pardon...

On Undoing Pardons

It's my understanding that a pardon is not executed until it has been delivered and accepted. In this case Bush stopped its delivery, thereby preventing execution of the pardon. In short, the pardon was not cancelled because it was never issued.

Original article: Sarah Palin is not bitter

@ D. Elliott

... and her soon-to-be son-in-law's mother just got busted for crack.

A scurrilous lie, spread by Sarah's enemies to discredit her!

Soon-to-be's Mom was busted for Oxycontin, AKA "Hillbilly Heroin". Nothing elitist about her, pal.
