Original article: The time to act is now

Al Gore

Al Gore may have an outward concern for the environment, but unfortunately he blew it when he had FOUR children with his wife, Tipper. Most of the earth's environmental problems can be traced to overpopulation, and Mr. Gore demonstrated his lack of understanding of this basic fact with his oversized, selfishly resource-intensive breeding.

Original article: Sushi, maki or me?

another example of discrimination

As a male who would be willing to have suchi eaten off of my semi-nude body (for a reasonable fee), I protest against Kizoku restaurant for limiting their human platters to females.

oh please

You know, I'd love to wear a Burberry skirt to the VP's, or anywhere for that matter, but I bet I would get a lot more flak than Ms. Dowd.

Original article: The carpet guy

jeez

Anne, there is no God, no universal love, no rules, rights, or wrongs; we can choose to deal with people as we wish.

Original article: The stay-at-home mystique

enough

Workplaces and society in general should not give support or breaks to parents, because children (and humans in general) are a blight on this earth. Public policy should promote the decline of our species' population.

Original article: Men prefer a Mrs. to money?

I'm a man

and I wouldn't sacrifice any part of my ambition for a woman, and I would have disdain for any woman who would do so for a man. A relationship is an intersection of common interests; the rest of the pie of one's life can be happily spent alone.

Original article: So long, white boy

Why don't you call the foloow- up article "Welcome, Black Boy"?

Ok, Salon?

Friday, September 28, 2007 06:46 AM

don't agree

I have a transsexual boyfriend (female to male, fully transitioned), but I feel that there should be no special prosecution of crimes according to their motives: the only thing that matters is the resulting injuries, for which offenders should be held responsible.

Wednesday, October 3, 2007 08:56 AM

this is bad news?

I would hope that housing, and the economy, crash like we've never before seen. "Growth" means development, and the loss of habitat for the remaining non-human species in this country.

Nothing wrong with the male body, either

And I'm going to start wearing miniskirts on airplanes myself. With a nice plunging-neckline top, as well.

re:

Nope, I'm not Scottish... anyway, why limit myself? I want something flirty, maybe with sparkles!

Original article: Rock vs. jazz

Peter Erskine

...the great jazz drummer, once said that it was much harder to write a great pop tune (he was speaking at the time about Michael Jackson) than to solo all night in a jazz context. I think the message he was getting at might be: don't discount what you or the masses love... loving anything in this world is a gift, and I will bet you that the kid who adores her Miley Cyrus music is having a more profound listening experience than somebody who listens to music that doesn't move her emotionally, but who likes the "idea" of it. There is so much music in the world, and there is absolutely no need or reason to slog through stuff you dislike.

One expression I hate, often applied to music and other arts: the "guilty pleasure". As if there should be any guilt or shame in liking something!

Female Health Company

...makes real condoms for women, i.e. condoms designed for women to wear; they're called "Reality". I'm a man, and am happy to wear (and bring my own) condoms, but only 1/2 the time; the other 1/2, I expect my female partner to don the latex.

Monday, March 31, 2008 09:28 AM

for the record

I have a vasectomy; I've done my part for birth control, and I'm single and child-free. As far as cost of female condoms -- yes, they're more expensive, but I never mentioned cost as an issue -- I'm happy to pay 1/2 if my partner desires. I'm even willing to pay 1/2 for dinners out!

The bottom line for me is, if a woman wants to experience the sensual beauty of my precious flower, she must share responsibility for protection.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 04:00 PM

no diff

I don't acknowledge any differences, aside from minor physical ones, between men and women. There is no more, or less, to be expected from men than from women in any capacity other than childbirth.

Thursday, April 24, 2008 07:30 PM

actually, 99.9% of both women and men are disordered eaters

because if you're not eating 100% raw, primarily vegan foods, you're out of whack.

Original article: The mother-daughter wars

I don't think

that famous men are given any more slack than women when it comes to having lovers (Bill Clinton, Woody Allen), and the archetype of the absent father is certainly loathed in our culture. Also, Rebecca Walker is an adult, and her mother owes her not love, money, support, or understanding. I hope she soon ceases to care about the actions of her mother.

Original article: Bacon mania

How about,

8. Bacon is pure cruelty. Go to a hog farm, gourmands; I'll bet even you will cry your eyes out.

Wednesday, July 16, 2008 09:44 AM

yeah, really...

Bad, bad headline. My girlfriend has a much higher sex drive than I do, and I often participate only because it makes her happy and keeps our relationship solid. I do not feel raped, and I imagine that women who are in similar situations also do not feel so, although like me they may have preferred to read.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 11:18 AM

maybe the waiting was the problem

If you were of the type to wait until your ship comes in (i.e., not initiate conversations/ask out men/make the calls back), then of course the odds were against you. I don't know whether it is out of egoism or fear, but the passivity of many who complain of not having partners is often the cause of their single-ness.

Original article: Bring back community baths

but what about the tuna?

I guess I'm either not a liberal at all, or else ultra-so... probably the former. I can't see why GK will eat a poor fish while judging our society on the way it treats the powerless...and I don't have compassion for the weak humans among us, unless they are right in front of me. Then, it's impossible not to care. But the fish he's enjoying is no less (nor more) deserving of a break than the poor multitudes, although perhaps it would be wiser to care more for the fish, as the oceans are being depleted, while we humans just breed and breed.

Original article: The beast

Um, unless you went to the Olympics and won a medal, Jennifer...

... you certainly weren't "elite", and you couldn't possibly understand what it takes to _really_ achieve in the sport.
