A Second Thought

When I first read about this, I thought, as I said in an earlier post, that it was extremely offensive. Now, after watching a tape, I think the offense was inadvertent. While it is certainly uncomfortable to see Coburn unconsiously channel Ricky Ricardo when questioning a latina, his accent, in fact, was pure Oklahoma. They do say "splain" in OK, instead of "explain". The incessant grilling of Sessions and Kyl is far worse.

Here's How

Want to attract minorities? Stop being bigots.

Want to attract young people? Stop being neanderthals.

Want to attract urban dwellers? Stop pandering to fundamentalists.

Simple, really.

And why I rarely fly. If only Europe could be reached some other way, I would never ever get on a plane.

Not only have I never worn Crocs...

I don't know anyone who wears them, and I have never seen anyone wear Crocs (maybe because I don't pay a lot of attention to peoples' feet). I have not even seen them in a store. (I shop online). From the pictures, they look damn uncomfortable -- hard, and hot as hell. I recommend shoes that breathe in summertime. And yes, from the pictures, Crocs are ugly. The colors look like kiddie bath toys.

Croc-free and proud!

So Cool

And don't you wonder - can someone be on talk radio if they can't talk?

Let's have a movement...

...for all of us who have no IDEA where our birth certificate is. Maybe we should be deported, since we are not really US citizens.

So agree Joan

These people are sick and they are getting worse.

Thank you

What a beautiful, human, statement. Thank you Joe Biden for helping me weep about my own last fifty years and the place of Teddy Kennedy in that. I did not know him personally but I'm glad you did, and your knowledge is so important.

Well...

this is the same attorney general who is responsible for allowing the property of the Episcopal Church to be stolen because the church supports the inclusion of gays and lesbians.

If there is no public option

this "reform" will not be worth having.

Excuse me, Joan

Have you seen Milk? She was there. She earned her tears.

The idea that girls and boys are different...

... is BS!! My little girl self gave all my dolls to my brother (yes, he kept them, yes he is heterosexual and so am I). Then I played sandlot football and baseball, engaged in "rough and tumble" activities, and beat the crap out of some boys. And ain't I a woman?

Well...

Obama has in fact changed the way the rest of the world views us. After the Republican debacle. And since the rest of the world is, like, you know, important, maybe that is something to consider. Don't you think?

Goebbels

would have loved Fox. Their propaganda is right out of his playbook, and it is not journalism. By the way, seen the cover of Glenn Beck's new book? All he needs is a swastika on his collar to complete the picture.

I mean

The woman has no choice. She has no alternative career. Would you want her messing around with your mouth?

I am in the Collins camp

I totally accept evolution but believe it was directed by God. That is a matter of personal belief... it doesn't matter if Dawkins accepts it or not. But only fundamentalists have a problem wiht evolution -- let's be clear about that. Mainsteam protestants and catholics have no problem at all. Mainsteam ChristIans understand this is how God did it.

OK, so I homeschooled myself

Back in the 60s there was no such thing as homeschooling. So I taught myself. I did it by reading the World Book Encyclopedia cover to cover. Which is way more cool than homeschooling.

And now I can see how so many "homeschoolers" are being manipulated. They are simply being taught what their parents want. Liberal or conservative, doesn't matter.

Bottom line -- let the kids learn. And guess what? The smart kids who aren't homeschooled will still be smart because they will teach themselves.

Douthat is an idiot and so is Benedict

Anglicans aren't going anywhere. They're too smart, and the few who aren't have already left. Why would any Anglican in their right mind join the Catholic church? Go in any Anglican/Episcopal parish and you will find a bunch of ex-Catholics. (And ex-Southern Baptists etc). It is the only denomination that is inclusive and where you don't have to check your mind at the door when you enter.

@Bernbart

I'm a 58-year-old woman. I can't procreate. Guess I can forget about getting married then?

What a joke that argument about procreation is.

By the way, if you're wondering about my moniker -- Phyl's a dog.

Dear Orly,

go back to grade school and learn grammar and spelling.

Sunday, November 1, 2009 07:48 PM

Someone should tell the pope---

---go into any Episcopal parish and interview the folks there, and you will find a goodly number of former Roman Catholics who are fed up with the ridiculous prejudices of the Catholic Church. They come to the Episcopal Church and find the beautiful liturgy, the music, and best of all, the welcoming fellowship for married priests, women priests, gay priests (not to mention parishoners!). And who are the few Anglicans going the other way? The grumpy right-wing bigots. Good luck with that, Benedict.

My Dog

is the best creature in the world. Bar none. People should examine their own carbon footprints, not those of dogs. Dogs don't eat gluttonously or burn electricity or buy expensive items. And Paul, how sad that you don't know the love of a dog. You don't know what you're missing.

I am a pro-choice woman...

... but for God's sake, let's get health care first, then deal with this.

Sunday, November 22, 2009 09:32 AM

Dear Senator Nelson

If you screw this up, and I can't get health care, you will have my blood and the blood of millions on your soul. Think about it,

Palin is not "hot"

I have never understood this delusion. Even the first time I saw her, before I knew anything about her, I thought she was very average. Not homely necessarily, but closer to that than "hot". Maybe if she got contacts . . .
