Original article: Disappointed by Rick Warren

wrong this time

Sorry, but I think Joan is wrong this time. Obama is crazy like a fox here. Yes, I can't stand Rick Warren, and he a self-promoter. But though he is right wing on social issues, he is also pretty good on some economic ones, especially third world ones. He really bothers the really right wing people like James Dobson. And in case you haven't noticed, the hardcore Religious Right is really freaking out over this. Check out the websites. Talk about driving a wedge through the Religious Right. It's pretty freaking brilliant actually.

The left can sometimes be as puritanical as the religious right, you know. Case in point.

I repeat. . . smart politics

the pro-life religious right is freaking out over this. Obama just took them out of the ball game and cut off their most famous spokesperson. Watch now and he's going to go on and have the freedom to promote some GLBT issues. Smart politics.

By the way I love Jim Wallis and Katherine Jefforts Shori and Gene Robinson. They'll be around now.

Totally agree

Cake is no fun at all. And by the way, despite the purists, those refrigerator crusts are so easy and about as good as made from scratch. I've often been complimented on my crusts while serving those things. I just smile and say thanks.

Pronunciations

The thing that drives me crazy about Giada is her pronunciation of Italian food items. I know she's Italian and I suppose those are the correct pronunciations. Except hey, I'm half Italian, and my fullblooded dad and grandparents never pronounced things that way. It makes me cringe.

Stupid is. . .

The difference between Andrew Jackson and Sarah Palin is that Old Hickory was, you know---smart. This choice just demonstrates the intellectual bankruptcy of conservatism.

This is. . .

one sick f*** of a country. I'm a liberal and I don't condone attacking anyone, but I do condone putting the economic/political screws on, as was done to South Africa, to stop this horrible abuse of women. It makes apartheid look like kindergarten.

@conryw

That's why I buy Citgo from Venezuela.

Why don't you take your ignorant ass to hell?

@conryw

Actually, I don't know what on earth you are talking about.

OK - now I understand what you are saying. And yes, Chavez is no angel. But the alternative is people who marry 8 year old girls to old men. And kill women who they suspect of infidelity. And refuse women the right to drive. . . and on and on. No crime of Chavez will approach the abuse of half the population of Saudi Arabia by the rulers there. So, yes, I will buy my gas from Venezuela. Until they start producing gas in Vermont or someplace relatively enlightened. And no, by the way, I can't not drive. I live in a place with almost no public transportation AKA the middle part of the US. Long distances, too far to walk, at least the way things are set up now.

Sorry Klytus

It already has.

@john anderson

Yes, unfortunately, as everywhere. Wherever there are men. But no woman would tell you there is a comparable situation between Saudi Arabia and other places. Only a man would think so.

mountaintop removal

Yes, but will Obama stop the horrific, evil, unimaginable but yes it's going on destruction and leveling of the Appalachian Mountain range?

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 05:56 PM

What?

I am a huge Obama supporter, just so you know where I'm coming from. And I know that sometimes people screw up on their taxes, so I'm sympathetic. But the man is supposed to be in charge of the TREASURY for God's sake. Either he purposely cheated on taxes or else he's incompetent. I mean, isn't he???

Coal is my worst nightmare...

because I live in West Virginia, and I love these mountains. And if they figure out a way to sequester carbon, we are doomed. For God's sake, are you willing to destroy the Appalachian Mountains in order to power your hairdryer???????

Bad grammar

I am an English teacher. Any student of mine who turned in a paper using the phrase "Democrat Party" would receive feedback from my big red marker. "Democrat" is a noun, not an adjective. "Democratic" is the adjective. Any Republican whether Rush L. or Mr. Dawson who uses the improper phrase just demonstrates his ignorance.

Elephantman

At least Elephantman is allowed to post here. I was kicked off Free Republic after 3 very very mild posts simply correcting misstatements of fact. Sheesh! But it's fun to see how freaked they are.

Scared and not trusting

I supported the initial invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. But I am scared about this. Afghanistan has proved a graveyard for western invaders. I hope this is not Obama's Vietnam.

Friday, January 30, 2009 03:53 PM

al qaeda comparison

The people who are making the Caterpillar machinery are destroying the Appalachian Mountains. The people who are "mining" the coal are destroying the Appalachian Mountains. Why don't we do a comparison with how many people are employed by Al qaeda?

Monday, February 2, 2009 01:49 PM

About time. . .

someone said this. Reagan is the second worst president in my 60 year lifetime. We only just beginning to undo the damage of the last 30 years.

Great

Yes, it was long. What is your attention span problem?

I thought it was great. Cheney deserves every bit of outrage heaped upon him.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 01:55 PM

Tax cuts????

What is this tax cut bs? That's the kind of Republican horse hockey that got us in this mess in the first place. Why are the Democrats now doing this? Don't they know they won the election in order to change this??

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 02:20 PM

@maximillianw

Does the idea of throwing trillions down the rathole of Iraq bother you? Or is it just spending money in our own country instead of paying to destroy another on behalf of the oil industry?

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 06:57 PM

@maximillianw

OK -- sorry I misunderstood.
