Dear Mr. Kirk,
Thank you for referring to everyone reading your post as "libs". That really elevated the discourse and made your point more clearly than anything else you wrote.
Perhaps as a shorthand for future posts, you can just write "LOL @ Libs" and save all of us a lot of time.
Sincerely,
Monkey Pants
As far as Ms. Zacharek's criticism of events taking place off-screen, perhaps she should go to a Chekhov play. In three sisters, most of the "action" takes place off-stage, including the duel at the end and the fire. The drama is provided by seeing the characters respond to the events, not the events themselves.
But then I guess Chekhov was also lazy.
I thought you went to write about the iPhone on slate.com? Didn't you know that they have a new tech guy who writes about the iPhone now?
I like this type of feature in Salon. The only problem is finding some poor sucker who is willing to lose to Glenn Greenwald's merciless logic.
Admittedly, I know next to nothing about it. But it seems to me you would need a certain amount of, shall we say, mental acuity to do that job right. It just seems an odd choice of profession for a pothead character.
I think you'll find that there are many many people who regularly smoke MJ who don't fit your "lazy, dumb stoner" stereotype. Successful physicians, attorneys, software developers, business owners, etc. Just as someone can have a few beers on the weekend and still be an airline pilot during the week, so too can one enjoy smoking on occasion and still lead a mentally active and successful life.
But Russia, China, and India are the “New Rome” just like America was in the 20th century! Because Republicans outsourced our jobs! That's what all the good, Liberal websites tell me anyway. And now you’re telling me that this zealous, xenophobic, racist, sexist, Christian-saturated, right-wing farce of a nation we used to call the USA might not be as bad as the other countries out there – more – that it might be better?! The Left wing is so confusing!
Yes, sorry to inform you that the understanding of world cultures requires more thought than "us-good, them-bad" or even "them-good, us-bad". Don't worry about it though. You can go back to your crayons and the adults will take care of things for you until you grow up.
Thanks for the info about text messaging, but thanks especially for being a condescending jerk about it! Nothing helps people learn technology better than being called stupid by a snobby tech columnist.
Question: If everyone is supposed to be as familiar with technology as you are, why would they be hiring *you* as a tech columnist?
I agree with you, Glenn. There was never a time in the Democratic convention when the crowd openly booed at mentions of McCain or his policies. Yet, booing Obama and "liberals" was a regular theme at the Republican convention last night.
On the other other, as good as the republican attack machine is, they are also experts at playing the persecuted victim. By trotting out the liberal media thing and then turning anything negative Obama says into an "angry black man" thing, it probably wouldn't help the democrats if they decide to start throwing mud.
I heard on the NPR hourly news summary this morning that Palin's speech addressed "Obama's criticisms" that she is inexperienced. While I don't follow every statement released by Obama, I'm pretty sure *he* never made that criticism. He has been complimentary to a fault, even called to congratulate her, and even so the media is buying into the republican playbook.
Which is better? Try to run a clean campaign while your opponent goes for personal attacks, or get into the mudslinging and give them even more fodder for personal attacks?
This is why the republicans keep winning elections. It's certainly not because they have the best interest of the voters at heart.
Wow, your english has really improved, Svutlana! That is fairly advanced sentence construction for someone who wrote "Can finish Svutlana this sentence many way, but won't." less than 2 weeks ago!!
Who is your english teacher?
Except when you pay the ransom you get something back that has somewhat dubious value but with enough time and patience you could potentially sell for a profit somewhere down the road.
Yeah, this bailout will pay for itself as soon as the Iraq War pays for itself with the oil profits!
What you call "finger-pointing", others might think of as figuring out the cause of the problem. This is generally an important and logic step because, as Joe Biden recently put it, "If you don't understand what the cause is, it's virtually impossible to come up with a solution."
But perhaps we can just be all mavricky and a solution will fall into our lap instead.
Has your expert been able to accurately identify personalities and intentions via face-reading in a controlled double-blind study published in a peer-reviewed journal?
No? Then stop publishing her conclusions as anything besides speculation and bias.
As for the claim that Aristotle believed in this approach, Aristotle also believed that all matter in the universe was comprised of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air.
Thanks for the last two broadsheet postings, which have taken serious steps to advance the cause of feminism and reject the stereotype that women only care about their weight and how much their clothing costs.
By talking about being fat as it relates to voting trends, and about the clothing costs of a female politician, you have demonstrated that women's issues really are issues that impact society as a whole. Thank you for this....
