how about this...
[Read the article: How safe is the HPV vaccine?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]instead of citing data from a group with a political agenda - and who continue to tout the completely debunked myth that vaccines cause autism - why not go back to the literature and read the peer-reviewed publications on the safety and efficacy of the vaccines? i have the august 31 issue of Vaccine sitting in front of me, the entire thing is dedicated to HPV vaccines. there is no shortage of data out there.
the vaccine information center states that "only" 1200 girls under 16 were tested. however this is a fairly sizable number for a vaccine trial, and only represents a fraction of the total number of women who were tested with the vaccines (these trials are still going on right now, by the way). and the side effects described are mild and not at all uncommon reactions for any vaccine (do you really think it's that unusual for some people to feel like fainting when they're given a shot?). as far as vaccines go, the HPV inoculations have thus far proven to be as safe or safer as any other vaccine currently on the market.
that being said, i do agree that we should wait until more people have been vaccinated before mandating it. side effects from medications can take many years to develop, and what is seen as a rare event in a few thousand people can suddenly become fairly common when given to millions. but i suspect that in a few years it will become apparent that this is a safe, effective vaccine that has the potential to all but completely eliminate cervical cancer.

and by the way...
[Read the article: How safe is the HPV vaccine?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]the HPV vaccine is not the first to prevent cancer. The Hepatitis B vaccine has been on the market for over 2 decades now. This actually serves as an excellent model for the HPV vaccine - since the Hep B vaccine's inception, liver cancer rates have declined steadily, and the rate of decline has already shown an increase after this inoculation became mandatory about a decade ago.

well it's about time
[Read the article: What do we make of R. Kelly?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it's been what, 5 years now since he was indicted on charges of pedophilia? and now, we're *finally* at the point of questioning whether or not this guy gives us the willies?? my word, i can't even believe this guy still has a record deal, let alone music videos in heavy rotation. micheal jackson was all but exiled to the middle east for more or less the same charges, only without the moronic videotaped evidence.
i personally have never been a fan of the guy. the over-the-top, irony-free drama of "i believe i can fly" is, to me, one of the most hilarious examples of what happens when people take themselves too seriously. "I used to think that I could not go on / and life was nothing but an awful song" - does this really require any commentary? (lest you forget, this track came from the "space jam" soundtrack). then 10 years later he somehow manages to top himself with his *ahem* "hip hopera" "trapped in the closet", a positively embarrassing display of how unaware he is of his own absurdity. mark my word, this clip will one day serve as a crowd warmer for a midnight showing of "showgirls," or perhaps "basic instinct 2".
yes, irony has experienced a miraculous recovery from the blow it took on 9/11. it's not only alive and well, but makes daily appearances on BET.
but all that aside, shouldn't he be feeling *some* heat for his actions? i mean, verison recently pulled their sponsorship from akon's tour after he dry-humped a 14 year-old girl on stage. and we all know what r. kelly did to a 14 year-old girl, and there was nothing - i mean *NOTHING* - dry about it.
if his record company isn't compassionate enough to pull the plug, the responsibility rests in our hands: time to plug our ears, cover our eyes, and hope he just goes away. it's really in everyone's best interest.

Thank god I'm gay
[Read the article: My boyfriend is checking out chicks while I'm standing right there!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My word, so much hand-wringing for such a non-issue!
Your advice is spot-on. Rather than taking the passive-aggressive route [which many women in this position do, if the responses to this letter are any indication], let him know you know what's going on and confront him in a non-confrontational manner. Perfect.
We all like to think that once we enter into a relationship, our significant other is suddenly re-wired to be exclusively attracted to us. But this is rarely - more likely never - the case. So cut your man some slack, but let him know your feelings. If he's as decent as you say he is, he does not want to hurt you.
My partner and I are constantly on the visual prowl, but for no other reason than it's nice to look at hot men. But we have the advantage of being attracted to the same sex. Indeed, membership has it's priveleges.

you missed one of my favorites...
[Read the article: Michelle Malkin's hate sites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Following a post titled "The forgotten victims of Planned Parenthood", commenter The Raging Republican says:
"...If this is truly about a woman’s right to choose, I have no problem with Liberals who want to crush their own sculls [sic] in but lets not do it to babys. OK?!?!?!?!?"
He is admonished by Malkin herself 2 comments later:
"Please stop bolding your entire comments. Thank you."
Crushed skulls? No problem. Bold comments? Unaccepatable.

ummmm....
[Read the article: Michelle Malkin's hate sites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm the last person to run to Michelle Malkin's defense, but some of the comments to this very post are extremely racist and sexist, often both ["Me so horny!" ?????]. Do you people not grasp the concept of irony?
TIP: if you can't think of anything more clever or relevant to say than an ad hominem attack, kindly shut the f*ck up. You're not helping.
