where on LI?

Hi Joan. Love your work. Hate Guiliani.

Where on Long Island did you go to High School?

Thanks.

Ralph

East Northport, NY (H.F. Carey High School, Class of 1976)

p.s. Please don't proliferate the "LongGuyland" myth. It's just another thing for rude, ignorant people to rag on us about. Most people I know don't tawk like that. :-)

Guiliani Bullyani

One can choose to justify Giuliani’s moral failings using any number of myths, but the reality is that his "situational ethics" are more parsimoniously attributed to the fact that he's a scumbag. His long record of bullying is legend in New York. Anyone who wants to can look up the various stories in the New York Times or Newsday archives.

One case in point: (summarized neatly here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Dorismond)

In 2000 Patrick Dorismond, who police claim was selling marijuana on a street corner in New York City, was shot dead by a police officer. Then, in a preemptive strike against negative pubic reaction to a(nother) questionable shooting by NYC police, Bullyani releases sealed records of PD's juvenile deliquency.

Very nice.

P.S. New York City was sued by Dorismond's family and had to pay millions of dollars in damages.

more on Guiliani

Thanks, rexlic, for providing that detail on the outrageous Dorismond affair. Now I'm waiting for the news media to move on to other aspects of Rudy Guiliani -- namely, how he opted out of the 9/11 Commission, proceeded to get rich off the tragedy, and (for someone who so vigorously supports Bush's war) has never been to Iraq.

corruption in Iraq

Joan, DAMN STRAIGHT the answer is yes. History will prove that this was the most disastrous administration in U.S. history. And GWB, while maybe not the manifest idiot that most of his detractors, including myself, like to portray him as, let's face it: when all is said and done, he is not exactly Presidential material.

Consolidate and Control the Media

Ever see the movie "1984"? I can't believe these fucking FCC assholes.

I would say "Retirement Home"

Like the designer of the Titanic said in the movie, when the ship took on more water than could possibly be pumped out in time to save the ship: This Giuliani Bully-ani campaign will founder...it's a mathematical certainty.

Giuliani foreign policy

I'm glad Norman Podhoretz is Giuliani's foreign policy advisor -- it's one more reason the slimeball is doomed to sink in this campaign. What I don't get is: As despicable as RG is, he's not a total idiot...why would he as a politician hold on to GWB's failed Iraq policy?

re: Question for you all?

One reason they want to attack Iran is because they're warmongering assholes.

Another reason they want to attack Iran is to incur more war spending and wreck the U.S. economy so that they can justify cuts in entitlements, thereby destroying Medicare and Social Security (starve the beast), and call for more tax cuts "to stimulate the economy".

There may be more reasons -- but the first one I mentioned is the main one.

Questions for Obama

Two questions you might (but probably won't) ask the man who wants to be the ostensible leader of the Democratic Party:

1. Why do conservatives wear their political affiliation as a badge of honor while most liberals won't readily admit to being one?

2. Why does a junior senator from Illinois think he can be a world leader? Is this the best our entire Democratic Party has to offer?

Clinton vs. Obama, and on and on...

I'm officially fucking tired of the Clintons, especially Bill.

Bring on Obama!

Rezko photograph

Matt Lauer is a dickhead, and he's representative of big media: Show the picture...go for the headline...leave nuance out...are the Clintons playing the race card?

What horseshit.

Tucker Carlson (a bowtie-wearing dickhead) just pulled the same shit. Look, there's Bill and Hill with Rezko! Look there's Bill and Hill with scumbag #1...there they are again with scumbag #2!

Sometimes I wonder why I watch news shows at all.

Original article: We'll take that as a "no"

Who the fuck would listen to GWB's last State of the Union Address?

So Dana Perinon said today that "We have been successful so far in preventing another attack on our country."

Is there any statement that rings more hollow when describing the Bush administration's homeland security record? For God's sake, it took Osama Bin Laden seven and a half years (between 1993 and 2001) to successfully take down the WTC. That would give the fucking terrorists until around June 2008 to match their previous accomplishments.

Only a moron would believe that GWB has kept this country safe from terror. On the contrary, he was at the helm when 9/11 happened. It would have been more forgivable if he didn't get a fucking memo the month before saying it was going to happen. And even if Osama Bin Laden weren't still out there (which he fucking is) some other piece-of-shit terrorist is just waiting in the wings to become the leader of Al Quada.

Nobody is going to prevent another attack on the U.S. It will happen when it happens and there's nothing that John McCain or Hillary Clinton or anybody else can do to stop it. Israel has been suffering from suicide bombers for a long time. They soldier on. We will have to, as well. And I prefer we do it without invading more countries.

Rudy Endorses McCain

So fucking what? If I were McCain I'd avoid Rudy like the plague. The slimeball can only bring bad things to his campaign. RG ain't no hero. He's a vindictive, mean-spirited, piece-of-shit scumbag. To hear him talk about "uniting the nation" is just so 1984.
