Are you kidding? We demeaned a Republican woman? I assume you are talking about Sarah Palin. Gov. Palin's own words made her look like a fool. No one demeaned her. She revealed herself to be a fool by:
1. Not knowing the constitutional duties and powers of the vice president.
2. Having a delusional grasp on foreign affairs and the role of governors in foreign affairs.
3. Not knowing Supreme Court cases other than Roe v. Wade. Couric should have asked her about why she disagrees with Miranda v. Arizona. I doubt Palin would have known what meant. It would have been a reference to her deriding Obama's concern that people who are detained by our government be read their rights.
4. Palin had no grasp of the causes of our economic meltdown. Her word salad is response to Couric's questions about the bailout was shocking.
5. Palin was incapable of conversing about large issues because she has obviously never thought about them and probably does not have the intellect to do it.
6. Palin made her out to be some expert on special needs children, including autism. It was embarrassing that when she gave her first "policy" speech, she made a snide remark about how funding research on fruit flies is wasteful spending that could be given to help the families of special needs children and adults. Gov. Palin obviously did not know that research on fruit flies, who share 98% of their genetic material with humans, yielded the information that autism is detected on Chromosome 7 and that inherited levels of neuroxin are indicators of a predisposition to autism. Gov. Palin had no idea what she was doing.
7. Gov. Palin whipped up violent and virulent racism against Obama. She and her surrogates used his middle name as a slur against him, issued dog whistle calls for racial resentment, and then defended her rabidly racist audiences as being emblematic of the best of "real" America.
No one demeaned Palin. She demeaned herself and put our country at risk by accepting the offer to run for VP despite being totally out of her depth. She put her ambition first, not her country.
efkiv1425 may not be able to heed your suggestion to go to the library and research post-modernism, Marxism, Socialism, Communism, etc. Sarah Palin may have banned such books in Wasilla.
First of all, I'm not your fucking dear, so drop that shit right now. I am a stinking troll for using Palin's own words? You sound bitter that your heroine is not intelligent, informed, or educated. That is not my fault, that is not pernicious gossip, that is the truth. If you do not like it, urge her to go back to school, to read major periodicals, to try to expand her frame of reference, and to refine her way of thinking.
I never thought the rumors that were spread about her daughter or her family (outside of the ethics review) were appropriate. I do not watch Gossip Girl, so you'll excuse me if I do not understand how critiquing her ignorance of issues fits in with the script. Making ad hominem attacks does not make Palin look any less vapid, it just makes you look petty.
Hutman and I do not agree on anything. He thinks I am a racist asshole because I do not think Obama is the patron saint of all things black (I happen to be black, by the way). I am not appalled by Sarah Palin's ignorance because I am some Obama groupie. Sarah Palin's presentation of herself, her dirty politicking, her stunning ignorance of policy, her shameful moralizing, her willingness to provoke racists, her disdain for our Constitution, her rabid militarism, blood lust for perpetual war against those who have done us no harm, her contempt for the educated (she would have gotten on well with the Khmer Rouge), and her attempts at dividing this country are good enough for me to dismiss her as a person who is unfit for any office. I do not need to morph into an Obama drone to do that.
