Original article: Condi Rice on Obama

Where will Palin go?

I know hypocrisy has never been a problem for politicians, Republicans in particular. Sarah Palin tried to pass herself off as just a plain old hockey mom, Walmart mom, PTA mom, anti-Washington insider, Joe Sixpack, who has a small town sensibility. She proudly described her husband as just a salmon fisherman and working man. She probably did feel, at the time, that she was happy with her life in the part of real America that is Wasilla, Alaska.

I have a feeling that now that Palin has gotten a taste of life in the lower 48, she will never want to go back to that life. If Stevens is elected and is kicked out of the Senate by his fellow senators, Palin will appoint herself as his replacement.

Todd Palin, who by all accounts loves to insert himself into his wife's elected office, seemed to be in ecstasy when people were squealing his name and fawning over him. When I watched him onstage, I saw the face of a man who was dreading going back to Alaska, where they had to wear a snowsuit to go vote, away from the glitz and glitter.

The Palins have become everything they claim to hate: people obsessed with power who feel that they are too good for backwoods towns.

Would anyone hazard a guess as to whether Palin will return quietly to Alaska and her beloved life as a hockey mom? Do you think she will attempt to come to the lower 48 as often as she can until her term is up?

My feeling is that Palin will try to come back, but will be rebuffed. Polls show that she was a bigger drag for the ticket than even Bush was. The Republicans have to realize that the values of their base, to whom Palin appeals, are so far out of the mainstream that pandering to them with a person like Palin will cost them more in the general election. Most importantly is the history of failed VP candidates.

Dan Quayle never got over the horrible first impression he made and Palin made him look like a Rhodes Scholar. When Quayle tried to run for office after the Bush I lost, he went no where fast. Where has Geraldine Ferraro gone? What became of Lloyd Bentsen? Joe Lieberman could not even win the primary to retain his seat when he came up for reelection. John Edwards could not retain his Senate seat and his subsequent efforts to remain on the national scene fizzled before his sex scandal. Losing is the best way to become a pariah.

Not only was Palin on a losing ticket, she is considered to be a major part of why said ticket lost. Further, her going rogue makes her look untrustworthy and disloyal.

Does anyone think she can comeback, or will she be tossed into the dustbin of history along with other VP picks on losing tickets?

On another note, I bet Levi Johnston must have been the only person happier about the Obama win than Obama. Now he does not have to pretend that he wants to marry Bristol Palin.
