I will provide you with a word for word account of Palin's fruit fly remark.
Palin: Where does a lot of that earmark money end up anyway? […] You’ve heard about some of these pet projects they really don’t make a whole lot of sense and sometimes these dollars go to projects that have little or nothing to do with the public good. Things like fruit fly research in Paris, France. I kid you not.
Those were her words. It was not just the dismissal of "pet projects" that was troubling, it was the fact that she was making a speech touting her bona fides as an advocate for special needs children and then she denigrated the very research that has made huge inroads into treating those ailments.
You are conflating Clinton's serial infidelity with violence against women and then paralleling it with the government charging crime victims for evidence gathering. First of all, sexual assault is not exclusive to females. Boys and men can be victims of sexual assault, so anal and oral swabs are part of their rape kits. It is outrageous that any crime victim would be charged for evidence gathering. Would the police charge someone who was the victim of a robbery for taking finger prints?
Bill Clinton'sinfidelity shameful. But he supports the rights of women. I do not know where you got the story that the heads of women's rights groups promised to turn off the television and not watch Kathleen Wiley's appearance on 60 Minutes. You may find the allegations against Clinton credible, but we have to defer to the legal system. No one charged Clinton with a crime.
John McCain opposes equal pay for equal work. He is quoted as saying that if women want to be paid more, they should be smarter. He has a history of calling his wife a cunt in public. John McCain also has a history of infidelity, using women for sex, and abandoning the wife who kept vigil for him when he was a POW, simply because she was no longer to his liking due to her having been maimed in a car accident. Clinton is a cheater, but he never opposed women having equal rights in this country.
Gov. Palin is pleading ignorance about the rape kit and saying that if she had known of this law, she would have changed it. She goes around talking about her executive experience. Only a bad executive does not know the rules of the entities over which they preside. You can't say your experience as an effective executive makes you qualified to be president and then pull this "poor me" act when you are confronted about the laws under your watch.
When asked about her suitability for office, Obama said that he would leave that to the voters. Palin herself is the one who proved to the nation and the world that she is unqualified for office. Voters have overwhelmingly decided that she is not qualified. Do you think that she has shown mastery of any issues at all? She is uninformed and she has shown an inability to think on her feet. Her perception as an unintelligent, ignorant, provincial woman with a myopic world view is one she cultivated herself.
Palin's record as governor has rightly come under scrutiny because she has lied or exaggerated about it. She left Wasilla $29,000,000 in debt when she left office. Her chief accomplishment was building a sports complex. However, brilliant executive that she is, Palin neglected to make sure the city had the title to the land on which it was built. She lied about the Bridge to Nowhere, she still kept the $400,000,000 dollars that were allocated for that bridge, she is not a government reformer (she used state money to fund her personal life, she instituted her own old boys club, she inserted her husband into government affairs), she whiffed on the natural gas pipeline for which she claims so much credit.
Palin brings negative perceptions on herself. She is always talking about things about which she knows nothing. I am offended that she placed her personal ambition above her capabilities when she accepted the nomination. If she doesn't know how out of her depth she is, then she is just plain dangerous.
Palin is reaping what she has sown. She introduced herself to the world with a mean spirited speech and has persisted in her hate speech. Do you notice that all of her speeches are dripping with contempt? All of her speeches are laced with hate filled invective. She is responsible for the latent racism at their campaign stops. It is no coincidence that all of their surrogates who introduce her at their campaign stops say Barack Hussein Obama (using his middle name as a slur). She couples the fear that he is some Muslim Arab with the term terrorist. She advances the idea that Obama hates America and does not see it the way she and her supporters do. That sounds startlingly familiar to Bush's contention that Islamic terrorists "hate us for our freedom." When people see that she presides over rallies that would rival Hitler's beer hall putsche in terms of their hostility and anger, it is scary and a turnoff.
Now there are reports that Palin has gone off on her own, essentially. It is not uncommon for the staffs of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates to bicker. However, campaign sources are saying that she is being a diva, has been deliberately contradicting McCain because she is angry with how she was introduced to the nation (she disregards her own shortcomings as reasons why she plays badly), she is accepting the campaign as being DOA and is positioning herself to be a star in the party beyond November 4. Palin is a shameless opportunist and she is not very nice.
I do not know why you see Palin as some shrinking violet who is being treated unfairly. Do you think that her performance has been unfairly criticized?
