Do you honestly believe that Sarah Palin has any idea about how to repair the economy? She has no idea about economic derivatives, the need for the bailout, the need to bailout people who are in danger of losing their homes, why we should have saved Lehman Brothers, and the importance of having a leader who inspires confidence in our economy (I promise you that if Gov. Palin were in office, confidence in the US, both here and abroad, would plummet)? I know many people are unhappy with the bailout because they think it is unfair. That is immature and ignorant. By not intervening sooner, the government allowed trillions of dollars worth of wealth to dissolve. Gov. Palin can only gin up anger and resentment, she cannot offer solutions. Gov. Palin has demonstrated over and over an inability to discuss the economy beyond spitting up talking points. You cannot engage her in a discussion because she does not have the knowledge to participate.
I know that the image of a folksy frontiers woman with common sense is an attractive narrative to some. But how on earth does that make her someone who understands the economy?
I know you feel that Obama's tax plan is tantamount to welfare (even though it is an earned income credit), but have you considered that Alaska is a welfare state? Alaskans get money back from oil companies that drill in the state, which is taking money from private companies and redistributing it to the public.
Palin and McCain want to continue the deficit spending of the Bush Administration. Cutting taxes and continuing to engage in a war that costs us 10 billion dollars a month is irresponsible. Half of our tax dollars go to paying the interest on the national debt. We have had to mortgage our country to China to keep this imperialist quagmire going. You think that Palin is a sagacious economist despite her desire to pile on our mountain debt in order to fulfill Republicans' fantastic concept of achieving "victory" in Iraq?
Gov. Palin has not spoken a word about public works projects as a way to repair America's woefully damaged infrastructure and generate jobs. Palin and McCain falsely state that corporations pay the second highest level of taxes in this country. Actually, the vast majority of corporations pay little or no taxes here. Either they do not understand the tax code or they are lying.
I understand why you are enthusiastic about the rise of Palin. She is a Christian fundamentalist like yourself, and I suppose you guys feel marginalized by the MSM, even though you all are by no means an isolated and oppressed group. But, Palin thinks that there is no place in America for people like me. I bet that if I were at that rally with you, I would be held up as an example of the Ivy League, east coast, wine sipping, elite who is an uppity nigger to boot. You are unable to detect the palpable anger and disdain for people like me in that audience because you are one of them. The hoax that that Todd woman pulled was a direct result of rallies like the one you went to.
Gov. Palin has sent out the dog whistle cry for all racists and Ms. Todd answered. She knew to invoke the specter of the big black man who wants to ravage white women. There is an obvious fear that an Obama presidency will enable blacks to oppress whites, which is what Todd was channeling when she said her black attacker promised that he would force her to support Obama. She took a page out of the play book of lynch mobs, Susan Smith, Charles Stewart, and the Runaway Bride. There is no better way to stir up violence and resentment against blacks than to tell a tale of black men violating a white woman. Ms. Todd is not mentally ill. She methodically, though ineptly, tried to move soft Obama supporters who might have reservations about voting for a black man to McCain and to galvanize the racist Republican base. She got that idea for McCain, Palin, and their surrogates.
I think that the crowds at the McCain/Palin rallies are angry because they realize that they are part of an increasingly unacceptable culture. I think the campaign was hoping that white Americans are as racist as they have been portrayed to be in the media. The fact is that whites are not overwhelmingly bigoted and McCain/Palin supporters are stuck in that backwards period and their values are being rejected out of hand.
I would like you to explain to me how being a POW and a hockey mom qualifies one to be president and vice president, respectively. John McCain displays symptoms of untreated PTSD and I think his irrational need to "bring our troops home with honor" from Iraq is evidence that he is still fighting the Viet-Nam war. He has a right to be traumatized, but that makes him unfit for office. Sarah Palin can be a hockey mom, she can be an MVP for a Stanley Cup winning team, but that has nothing to do with the enormous amount of brains, skills, knowledge, and abilities required to be president. You say you can't believe we are about to elect Obama over a POW and a hockey mom, well, I can't believe you are voting for them.
One last thing, you take issue with your tax dollars being used to pay for abortions. I do not like my tax dollars being used to bomb civilians and occupy other countries. What say you?
