Original article: A tale of two faces

@rereader continued...

Regarding Gov. Palin's wardrobe expenditures, I do not think anyone begrudges her clothing, even expensive clothing, simply because they want her to have cheap clothing. The problem is her hypocrisy. She goes around touting herself as "Joe Sixpack," "Joe the Plumber," and a plain old "hockey mom," while denouncing people like me, who wear Louboutins and high end designer clothes without shame, as Manhattan elitists. She is jingoistic, but has no problem wearing European designers. She stokes up anger, bitter populism, intellectual, educational, and class resentment by riling up the "real Americans" with her hateful rhetoric against people who live in Manhattan. I doubt many people in rural, small town America wear Gucci, YSL, or Escada. Do you see the problem with her condemning elites and manipulating people who genuinely think that she is one of them?

I am not one of those who thinks that Obama is some savior. Frankly, I do not care for him very much, but his views are much more aligned with mine. I am a strong Hillary partisan who still has a bad taste in her mouth from the primary. But John McCain's changed from a moderate to a religious fanatic who sucked up to Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, whom he had previously denounced as "agents of intolerance," when he flip-flopped on torture, the Bush tax cuts, moderate abortion rights views, extremist views on Supreme Court appointees, and endless occupation of Iraq, I could no longer stomach him. His selection of Gov. Palin destroyed whatever respect I had for him and he definitely did not put his country first.

Beyond her meeting the age and natural born citizenship requirements, what do you think makes Sarah Palin qualified to ascend the presidency should the cause arise? She does not know any Supreme Court cases other than Roe (for crying out loud, the Supreme Court just limited the damages Exxon has to pay to Alaska in damages for the Exxon-Valdes oil spill, as governor, she should know that), but she would seek to appoint judges? She has no idea what the Constitutional obligations and limits are on the office of the vice-president. She wants to pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, though the Constitution explicitly says that states that the states define marriage, let alone what it would do to the Full Faith and Credit Clause. Gov. Palin has no knowledge of the complexities of the world and has obviously never given them any thought. She has no idea how to handle the economic crisis and none of the greatest minds in economics wants to be associated with her or McCain.
