Joan Walsh's "Racism"

I think the hiring of David Horowitz was despicable. I think it was a misguided attempt at trying to seem to be a site that has intellectual diversity. I think the same is true of having Camille Paglia on staff.

I do not think that these dumb decisions are indicative of deep seated racism in Walsh. Saying that her support for Clinton is just another notch on her belt of racism is a huge leap of logic that badly misses the ledge.

I think Walsh has made remarks, like today's remark that a black president would bring in more controversial baggage by way of shady persons than a white person, were racist stereotypes. Alas, hers are not remarks are not uncommon. I have heard Obama apologists making ridiculous apologias for him using the same logic to defend him. Remember the "well, this is what goes on in black churches" defense?

If Obama makes a poor decision, Walsh should call him on it because that is her job. If she wants to sabotage his campaign, a mighty feat considering that she is one person, I do not see it. I do not know what this whole "concern trolling" is. You know, since the campaign started, there has become an entire language devoted to being dismissive of the opinions of persons who share views different from the person hurling the accusation. Unfortunately, those accusations have come mostly from the paranoid Obama camp. Someone must be a "concern troll" (can someone tell me what the hell that is), "a McCain troll trying to sow seeds of disunity," "bitter Clinton trolls," or plain old "Republican trolls," if they do not want to play Mary Magdalene to Obama's Jesus and beg for the crumbs from his table. It is a gross attempt to silence dissent and build an echo chamber. It is no different than saying that if you criticize America, you are not really actually expressing discontent with policy, but you like terrorists.

I have been accused of being all sorts of trolls and I came to realize that it is because I am not into Obama. I have had my race, political affiliation, gender, college education, graduate education, profession, sexual orientation (viciously insulted) all questioned and denounced as fake because I do not like Obama and refuse to vote for him in the fall.

Walsh should come back here and own up to her outrageous remarks on today's comment. But I doubt that she is a racist if she wants to see Obama lose. I know a lot of people who want him to lose so that Clinton can run in '12. Is it risky to put McCain in office for 4 years? Hell yes. But they think it would be riskier to have 8 years of Obama and think Clinton is the one for the job. That is not racism. Walsh has never declared this to be her wishes, but even if it were so, how does it make her racist?

I would like to hear more discussion on Obama and not just insults against Walsh. We get it: you hate her and you think that she is a racist. Do you have anything to say about Bernie Mac, the implications of acceptable sexist humor at a fund raiser, and how the right might use the people Obama surrounds himself with (in an attempt to be black in my opinion)? Someone posted a link to a wonderful and insightful piece on Obama's remarks on Father's Day on Counterpunch.org. It addresses the concerns Jesse Jackson and some black people like myself have about Obama. Actually, for me it is not a concern, I think it is obnoxious and racist. Or is it easier and much more comfortable to bash Walsh?
