Why is secessionism always a good thing no matter what?

Even if it involves a 50 year fight to the death? It seems clear that China will never relinquish Tibet - whether it's because they truly believe that it's an integral part of China or it's for some more abstract reason. Tibet is and will be part of China. And the Dalai Lama seems to agree with that. After almost 5 decades of less than zero progress that seems to be the case. So basically they're fighting now for the de-Chinafication of Tibetan society?

Well I have to ask the Salon readers here why that's so awful? You yourselves support a world w/o national boundaries where nation states don't matter, cultural and ethnic differences are like brand affinities and religions of all kinds are pushed to the margins. What makes the Tibetans and their clinging to a society hundreds of years in the past comparatively, with all that entails - poverty, poor public health, curtailed education, lack of infrastructure? It seems that it's the well wishing liberals in the west who want to maintain a faux Shangri-La like illusion for Tibet.

Isn't this what illegal Mexican nannies are for?

Of course I'm waiting for the Eco-Hags to start yelling about the soaps used to was the damn things next.

No it really just highlights a deeper problem

That Dems can never resist an opportunity to screw things up. All we're seeing is the elevation of personal zealotry above the need to elect someone. Dems are great at this - they closer they get to the election, the louder the calls for everyone's marginal issues to get included gets. I wonder if the circus parade of midgets, trannies, furries, Marxists will all get to the convention on time.

Obama, seeing he can't win on issues is using the biggest hammer he has in the toolbox: Race. So now the election is going to be about race. You're not a racist, are you? Hillary on the other hand can't argue personal charisma, because she has none. She can't argue 'experience' because she really doesn't have a great deal of that either. And apparently even the women of America aren't ready to get behind a female candidate and push real hard. Why? Because it's all about each micro agenda that the Dems pride themselves on. It would be awesome

If in the end it was our love for furry pets, not human rights, economic slavery or environmentalism or any of the real or human issues that eventually put a kink in the Olympics. Pets are People Too!

I'm guessing that if

300,000 people surrounded the White House for a month - 6 weeks we'd not be in Iraq.

The Federal government spends 10x per capita

On old people vs children. This is generally because AARP is one of the largest, if not the largest best funded lobbying group in the US. This is because children don't pay taxes or vote. So screw them.

Doesn't this bailout creditors before shareholders?

And since when is bailing out creditors something we don't do. If I were a shareholder and I lost 90% of my investment I would hardly consider this a 'bailout'. After all the tax law already handles that with capital loss carry forwards. I don't know about you Andrew but I always look to the end of the year (the later the better) to dump some dogs to offset losses against gains. Anyone want my Danskin? It's at 0.01 now.

Sri Lanka expanded diplomatic relations with Israel

Those traitorous fucks. How dare they object to more than 5000 suicide bombings.

Please note that McCain is getting help from Rove

Even though the men personally detest one another and share nothing in terms of goals or values. But they see a GOP win as more important than that. Dems would never do that. They want to be loved and hugged and agreed with and would never pick political expediency over personal tastes. Well except for Hillary, which is why most of the Dems are throwing rocks at her now.

Let me know how that failure tastes in Nov, will you?

You're right I'm wrong

Giving hand jobs to Glenn Greenwald has worked so well so far. You keep doing that.

Human/civil rights for pets articles get almost as many posts as Glenn Greenwald or bloviating about race

So now we know our priorities, in order. #1 Glenn, #2 Race, #3 Civil Rights for Pets

Burmese monks think you have a 12 day attention span

That's why dictatorships don't care what you think or do.

Obviously 'it doesn't make it right'

What has that got to do with it - someone posted a note showing that either no one would be home, or, if enough people showed up it wouldn't matter so go steal whatever you can till the cops show up.

Ever heard of looting, Farhad?

Well then if there's no solution stop complaining about it

Pack up your tofu and solar powered pup tents, stop blogging and go home. My regret still stands. At best people put in a token effort and one that often seemed over self dramatized for the sake of illuminating certain individuals at the expense of success. What after all, did all the Cindy Sheehans accomplish when their main story became themselves, and then they allowed themselves to be coopted by groups even more radical than they are? What did more people attending DailyKos Book signings than raising hell with your Congressperson buy you?

No, in the end, the biggest truth is that the anti war movement is for the most part a lot of dilettantes in it for the personal glory and satisfaction and to get chicks.

Looting is when underclass people bust down store windows

To steal stuff, typically game consoles, TV's small enough to run with, liquor, cigarettes and high end Nike's.

Please let's face facts

If Chris Matthews could rape, kill and eat a Clinton during his show, he would. His level of hatred passed pathological a long time ago.

Monday, March 24, 2008 02:43 PM

No it's ok

Stumbling across a Salon thread without the obligatory OCD grammar junkie would be like leaving the living room w/o flicking the lightswitch seven seven seven seven seven seven seven times. Can't have that.

Though to the subject at hand I'd love to do something like that to the Raleigh, NC police chief or mayor.
