You're just playing their game worse than they do.

Dems always practice defensive politics and then resent losing at that game they're not as good at playing. Even this column with Glenns endless complaints about the right, all you're doing is playing into their hands. They don't care what you think and they're not shamed. That's why they're so good at this. But when the Dems stick our their tongues and pout "No Faaaaaiiirrr!!!! you do the same thiiiiiinnnng!!!! It comes across as weak. Why Dems chose to play this losing game is beyond me. Their skins are too thin, they take it too seriously and they worry too much about being liked. It's only noise if you pay attention to it.

The downside to the protection racket

We were paying them not to shoot at us. We stopped paying them. Now they're shooting at us. Anyone who's seen a gangster movie knows this.

No Kerry didn't ignore the noise

He tried to 'elevate himself above it' by obliquely noting that it was irrelevant. That's a different thing. Look Dems can take one of two paths. Either they can get in an alley fight with the GOP and literally take them down. By that I mean a scorched earth policy of actual personal destruction. Or they can get off their high horses of identity politics they're mired in and speak to the actual failures of the current admin that McCain seems intent on continuing and what, specifically what, chapter and verse they plan to do about it. If McCain is running as Bush III then the Dems should be tearing down Bush like he's the antichrist. And stop all this gibbering nonsense about who's black enough or liberal enough or who ran around the airport in Bosnia. That, is a loser strategy.

So we're right where we were before the LAST bubble burst

1999-2000 was the high water mark of the dotcom bubble. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it unless you happened to be one of those suckaz who invested in them.

Firefox has flash block and jscript block extensions

they block the page from firing off the flash or jscript animations, replace them with a button so you can turn them on my hand. They screw with some pages like Salon's own Yahoo ad page but for the most part you can bypass the crud. On the other hand my Safari is so fast that the animations don't slow it down. Opera is very fast as well.

Original article: Poor America

You are a stupid nation

You are a stupid nation that thrives because of its mediocrity not in spite of it. In the last 20 years, the 'average' American is easily 20% dumber than their predecessor. What you lack in curiosity, insight and depth you make up for with noise, energy and arrogance. It's not that your President is stupid, it's that you want him to be.

Well which is it?

Most of you claim to never watch TV and wouldn't believe anything you saw on it if you did. Now you're complaining that it doesn't reflect your PoV adequately? I was listening to Pacifica Radio and Democracy Radio yesterday and frankly, after 60 minutes of revolutionary agitprop they could probably run a tape loop. If that's what you're going for, it's bound to be incredibly dull even by NPR standards.

Also I find endless chanting by Chomsky and his minions to be its own form of brainwashing. There's not a great deal of insight once you get past the part that says "Everyone but me is lying to you." Almost cult-ish really. But - - there's no way to argue wit the glint eyed minions.

Every day for more than a week

We've been treated to box ads that proclaim "Should Hillary Quit?" or today's version which has Jesubama the Messiah side by side with Hillary looking like a clown. You folks couldn't be more transparent if you tried.

so when you plant a bomb, phone it in first to evacuate the building

then it's not a violent act, let alone terrorism, according to some of you. that actually works for me and I whole heartedly endorse that. now where is Salon HQ?

Thursday, March 27, 2008 05:37 AM

Salon readers imply: Hummer dealership good, abortion clinic bad

Be very careful when you parse which acts of 'violence' you're willing to tolerate.
