  • At least it's a plan.

What does Obama bring? "Trust me to hope the hopeful hope, onward to the beige future!"

  • So let's break it down

[Read the article: Rev. Jeremiah Wright isn't the problem]

White America is evil - check

America generally is evil - check

If you object to that, you're a racist - check

If you don't object to that and you're white, it's because you know you're a racist - check

Blacks have no role in American policy ergo 'blowback' is a white problem - check

    It's the CIA - check

    It's the Jews - check

If you don't agree with that then you're part of the problem - check

Black people say inflammatory things because you're a racist - check

  • So then why is it

[Read the article: Seduced by the Dalai Lama]

Everyone else gets to have a radically liberally blessed War of Liberation? I really can't think of any violent secessionist movement that hasn't been blessed by the very same people who are preaching blissful subjugation here.

I really need to understand the criteria you apply - East Timor, Chechnya, Kurds, Palestinians, Sri Lankans, Kosovars, FARC, to say nothing of the Indonesian, Burmese, Kashmiri, Pushtun, Georgian, Azerbijani or Nigerian separatist revolutions all get a rousing chorus, a slough of websites, and angry blogging black t-shirted rebels. So you tell me - why is it Tibetans shouldn't rise up? Because they're Buddhist? Sri Lanka has a Buddhist ARMY. Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians are Buddhist.

  • Rev Wright of the Westboro Baptist Church

[Read the article: Rev. Jeremiah Wright isn't the problem]

It's not hard to see that one is much like the other. Westboro blames everything on homosexuality and gleefully tells America that they deserve it. Rev. Wright just expresses the same insanity in a Black context.

  • It's the Iraqi Information Minister

[Read the article: A taste of North Korean beer propaganda]

We committed suicide on the Gates of North Korea, too.

  • In the remake of "The Stepford Wives"

[Read the article: Work sucks? Blame her!]

There is a brilliant line: "When women were becoming men, men were becoming Gods."

Good times, good times, in Port Elizabeth. By the way even critics like Sandile Memela don't believe that any whites have anything to apologize for now.

  • Salon, you're trying too hard

You're supposed to at least pretend that you have some semblance of objectivity. But after a fistful of articles that all claim that (White) America is seriously deluded about the patriotic peace nuggets of Rev Wright it's pretty clear you're going to beat this dead horse with doctrinaire fervor, for just about forever.

The next time, or, better yet, find in the past, a candidate who openly embraced antiamericanism and won a national election, let me know. No one is saying that Obama and Wright aren't perfectly free, encouraged even, to hold whatever views they wish. They're saying that as a strategy that leads to the White House, "This is the first time I've been proud of my country" and "Kill Whitey" are not wise choices.

You'd have to take that up with the Black and Colored South Africans themselves. They've made their peace with it. That angry Western Liberal Agitators have not, is more their own problem than anyone else's.

  • Mandelbrott

Maybe they should take Gandhi's advice to the Jews in WW2: commit collective mass suicide as an act of protest.

  • Yes, work does suck

that's why they call it work.

  • Change the tax law then

    [Read the article: Consumer pessimism]

With the stroke of a pen we could essentially wipe out the housing collapse.

Allow homeowers to take capital loss carry forwards on real estate JUST LIKE THEY ARE ALREADY ALLOWED TO DO WITH ANY OTHER CAPITAL ASSET.

Hell, you can write off gambling losses against winnings. But in the US you get hosed on real estate losses. You have to pay the gains tax on the upside but the law has never permitted you to take losses and offset them against current and future gains. Unless the property is income generating.

I don't think there's much at all to what Gary says. Elections are by definition patriotic affairs. Which is, I suppose why American turnout is typically the lowest in the developed world. We're not really a patriotic people. And this is why people like the people here who apologize for Rev Wright get it confused from the start. They seem to equate dissent with patriotism. It's not, it's dissent, that's just being a concerned citizen. But the notion that "Everything Always Sucks" aka the Liberal Ethos, isn't really the same thing as patriotism.
