Those of you saying obama has no shot in the general.

Well, I disagree. The only thing that can hurt him is if Hillary Clinton pushes her supporters towards McCain. I can't possibly fathom any scenario whereby the Clintons would destroy their reputation with the Democratic party.

That being said, I was really ticked off to see the govenor of Oregon (and Clinton supporter) attending McCain's speech about the environment. Hillary Clinton needs to send a strong message to her supporters that if she fails to secure the nomination, we are all behind Obama! She should distance herself from what the governor of Oregon did, that is not what her campaign is about.

Original article: Candidates go a-courtin'

She should focus on exiting gracefully

I hope Clinton is not seriously looking to find new superdelegates to back her. An uncommitted super backing Clinton at this point is the equivalent of doubling-down on a sixteen with the dealer showing an ace.

Clinton needs to spend her time formulating a way to exit the race with grace and dignity and in a way that benefits Obama in the general. I have no doubt that any of the superdelegates she meets in the next few days will be trying to convince her of that.

There's a part of me...

That wants to see Clinton get as good as she's given these past weeks.

But you know what, I support Obama because eh outright rejects this kind of garbage.

Who cares WHAT Mickey Kantor may or may not have said in 1992. I guarantee you, for the Hoosiers who are struggling to find work or fill their gas tanks or pay the medical bills, the garbly audio from that documentary doesn't mean a thing.

Ultimately Hoosiers are gonna have to decide who of the two will be a better President, and I think they will pick Obama because of the strenght of his words and the content of his character.

Not because of some faux scandal surrounding a surrogate of Clinton.

I agree with the message

+1 for the message in the ad. I think a gas tax holiday is a stupid gimmick and it makes Hillary seem even more Republican to go along with it.

-1 for the that hokey inspirational music in the background. For the love of God, can't we find some music that doesn't sound like its parodying itself?

A serious warning

Clyburn is one of the most influential and respected black leaders in the Democratic party. His warning that the current tactics of the Clinton's against Obama may cost the Democrats support in the African American community is important.

If black turnout in important states like Ohio and Pennsylvania are even marginally reduced, John McCain will saunter to the White House. It's about time that someone in the Democratic party called Hillary on her divisive tactics.

This may be hyperbolic

But as much as we like to talk about a brokered convention as being a fun, democratic, harmless event, I think there is little doubt that such a convention would make winning in November very very hard.

And I'm sorry, but we Democrats NEED to win. I mean this in all seriousness, people have DIED, thousands and thousands because we lost in 2000 and again in 2004. Because we failed to win, America has waged one of the most devastating and ill-advised wars in our history as George Bush sat in the oval office as Al Gore made a documentary.

So I'm sorry, fuck the facsinating intricacies of party politics...I want us to have a polished and prepared nominee taking on John McCain as soon as possible. And I fail to see how having two very skilled and beloved Democratic candidates tear into each other for the next three months is anything less than a disaster for us and a gift for McCain.

Look, I like Obama and I dislike Clinton, I won't deny it. But Pennsylvania showed me quite clearly that there are lot of Democrats out there who trust her and feel strongly about her. Where the pledged delegate gap between the two less than 100, where there even a reasonable mathematical probability that Hillary could pull an upset, I would not make this agruement. But lets face facts...her strategy is to hope that Obama stumbles and stumbles hard, driving enough supers into her camp to pull off a win.

It could happen, though at this point I wonder what there is to know about Obama or Clinton that we don't already know. And so what is the likely result if this goes to Denver? At the bare minimum, we have a nominee, Obama, who has faced sniper fire from two different fronts and as a result never gets the chance to set the agenda and the tone of the campaign.

But what happens if Hillary does pull it off and gets enough superdelegates to switch allegiance? If it's the result of a complete Obama meltdown (unlikely to say the least) well she will come through unscathed. But if it's the result of backroom deals and a percieved usurping of voters wishes, I can't even conceive a scenario where she wins the independents that have fallen for Obama so hard (to say nothing of the African American community).

It's clear Clinton is in it to the last of the primaries. She fought hard to win Pennsylvania by a decent margin and she got it. Despite my preference for a clear frontrunner to take on McCain, Clinton deserves to go on.

But, if when June comes along Clinton has failed to dent Obama's lead in pledged delegates (narrow it to less than 50-70), I hope she backs down and supports our candidate.

John McCain may not be as bad as George Bush, but we have a lot of damage to clean up after and we cannot afford for another 4 or 8 years to go by before we seriously address the ills that are starting to plague this country.
