Summers is correct...

The infusion of cash into the world markets is easing the credit crunch and companies are beginning to report profitability again. I am considering very seriously investing 1k that I'm going to make this month (unexpectedly) on stock purchases *but* I am going to buy stock in the J.M. Smucker, Co. that has always been a well run and profitable company. The prices of the stocks are down which is very odd considering this company has not had any losses. But that means that it is a good time to pick up some more in order to bolster our retirement. Disclosure - my husband works at Smuckers and half our retirement is in Smucker stock already. But, that said, we know in detail every quarter exactly what the company is doing.

The difference

is that we don't get paid to contribute our opinions on Web sites where we disagree or wish to correct inaccurate content. Right wing trolls seem to be paid contributors. I've unearthed a couple in the last year.

Stupid crappy movie period

We saw the trailers in the theater when we went to see Watchmen. The group I was with were all disgusted and completely not interested in the movie. It is not even vaguely funny. I'm not quite sure what they think they are doing in it. If it was an art movie I'd say they were trying for extreme realism. We saw blatant racism, sexism, just plain meannness and stupidity -- and for some reason the theater ran the disgusting trailer twice while we waited for our movie. I am not understanding how this even managed to be released. Who is the intended audience?

Original article: The triumph of Susan Boyle

Exquisite and mean people suck.

To say that Susan Boyle is just ordinary singer and that it was just the contrast of her appearance that makes her special in these videos is either either ignorant or mean spirited or possibly tone deaf.

None of the presentation was out of the ordinary - the audience is prepared to make fun of anyone who is not either gorgeous or very talented. That's the nature of these programs. Snarkiness and mean people abound. That is why I never watch these programs.

Part of my pleasure in viewing this, when it was sent as an IM link to me by my husband who insisted it would cheer me up and make me not so weary last night, was watching the mean people get a comeuppance.

This woman - a woman my age - is not just a pleasant voice! I attended the live broadway touring company Les Mis up in Cleveland last year. Ms. Boyle was as good as and in my opinion BETTER than the professional singer who sang that song. The song choice was exquisite. Many of my friends concur. My first thought on seeing her was here is a lady who sings well in church so that we enjoy hearing her... wow! I am truly astounded that no one in her community ever hired her to sing at weddings at the least!

Listening to the common radio singers on my drive home this morning I couldn't help but contrast the very mundane technology enhanced 'singing' of some of the popular entertainers. I must admit to hearing several really good singers on the radio as well, but none of them was close to Susan Boyle caliber except the CLeveland Orchestra vocalist singing 'Aria' by composer Osvaldo Golijov. (his Azul composition is in concert this weekend)

Not conservative

William F. Buckley conservatism is far from the current group's bizarre extremism. It is not a surprise that moderate conservatives no longer identify with the group. I don't think they are conservative per se anymore. They seem very much radical in an odd backwards way.

They think that lying louder will work?...

Right the media distorted the Bush record... seems to me they were cheerleaders and very little else. Very few members of the media reported critically until the very end when it was too late. Salon, can you require this slimebag to at least provide citations to substantiate his lies - uh I mean allegations?

The funny thing is...

that even out of context her words are sensible. In context, as read in full by Keith Olbermann last night, they are comforting. This video is so bad that even I could have done a better job and I only got a B in videography because I taught the prof html as an extra project... long ago ;)

Begins with a false premise

and proceeds to just lie outright. Mr. Horowitz, you clearly need to return to university for some listening and critical thinking skills. A few actual history classes might not go amiss. Salon? Why are you inflicting this ignorant propagandist on us?

Grow-up and

realize that instant gratification is not possible. Especially, since Obama is NOT the all powerful dictator of the country. Address yourself to the congress and senate that need to be changing laws and making new laws and stop thinking that Obama has to give you everything you want and now. There are a few things that are critical at the moment and I for one am glad that he's more worried the big things.

I don't think he's doing perfectly either but I'm willing to keep bringing attention to problems by addressing them to the people who will actually need to introduce bills to make and change laws.

You did the best you could

given that he makes all the rules and creates his own fantasy on his show. I'd say don't go on and don't encourage people to watch the show. It needs to be boycotted and boycotted hard. I recently asked my dinner hostess to turn off faux news when I was visiting a few weeks ago. She turned off the sound and left on the talking heads... talk about surreal. I am continually amazed that they don't all have strokes given their physical symptoms. They fight hard and dirty to maintain their hate.
