[Read the article: The atheist and the creationist: Can't they just get along?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Reading LW: His friend already knows and already doesn't believe in young Earth creationism.

That is what the fuckups who are reading this as "Atheism versus religion" don't get.

This is not about selling "Atheistic" views, this is about preventing someone from knowingly teaching innocent kids lies that will forever stunt their development. And if you read what LW wrote it is knowingly lying to kids that his friend is proposing here.

You wouldn't tolerate someone giving kids cigarettes and saying it cures cancer would you? The same thing is going on here.

Sure the one guy talking about how "Liberal college professors" didn't crank out a generation of "hippies" thinks he has a point. Except those liberal college professors weren't aiming at creating a generation of intellectual clones and those students going to college are somewhat older than the students involved in this school.

And young Earth Creationism is an outright lie. Its teachings are outright lies as demonstrated by not atheists, not scientists, but by the evidence we have available.

That some religionists on this thread seem to think it is okay, nay, right to teach kids what is demonstrably a lie in the name of "Tolerance" tells me an awful lot about how those religionists think.

Cary wants us all to get along, but there are some things which are not acceptable, there is a frigging line beyond which feelings of disgust and anger are not only acceptable but where their absence is not.

And when it comes to this form of abuse, and it is abuse because this betrays those childrens' futures, that line has to be drawn.

How far are you as an American going to take your tolerance of things you know to be untrue? How far are you as an American prepared to betray every single moral concept in the name of getting along?

This is not about atheism. This is not about religion. This is about the truth. This is about those kids' welfare. This is about confronting evil when you face it, or simply letting evil "get along" with what it is doing.

  • Here is the issue

[Read the article: How will Barack Obama get to 270?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The electoral math that one uses here is somewhat less applicable - because frankly it runs on the assumption that Obama will run the same strategy as has proven so shaky for the Democrats before.

When you change the strategy you change the numbers.

  • Oh and ShawnWM

[Read the article: How will Barack Obama get to 270?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If Hillary couldn't beat Obama amongst "Loony lefties" and "latte liberals" what with her policies being to the left of Obama's, what makes you think she can win in a general election, where she has endorsed her opponent as CIC material?

  • What has gone wrong with America

[Read the article: In the land of believers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Americans are essentially an arrogant people who identify way to much with their ideas - thus meaning that an American has a serious problem admitting he or she is wrong until it is way too late.

  • The issues LW needs to think about

[Read the article: What happened to all my dad's money?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

1: You aren't getting the whole story - you don't actually know what her family has said or done, you only have your father's word for it, and much as though it hurts to say it, your father's word during a difficult breakup isn't gospel.

This isn't because of your father being a bad person or lying, it has a lot to do with how our memories work - when we are upset we tend to remember the things that upset us before. When we are happy, happy memories surface more readily.

2: Your father probably spent a fair amount of the money himself by himself, there is a good chance that the car may have been his idea and that ultimately, he was trying to buy acceptance into his new family - something which possibly didn't ultimately work.

It might not have been the new family's idea to take him for a ride.

3: Even in the case of it being his new family taking him for all he is worth, there is the very real chance that there is absolutely nothing you can do about it - thus judging harshly isn't exactly going to do anything.

But, that said LW: Your feelings are valid and aren't entirely selfish. Nobody likes the thought of a loved one being taken advantage of, and a definite portion of what I read into your letter is not simply greed or wanting the money for yourself, but actually that you are upset at your foster mother for hurting your father, and a certain amount of worry as to how this impacts you should your father go broke.

Because you are a good person and you will end up trying to help your father out. There is nothing in your letter that even vaguely suggests someone who isnt' going to do that - and there is a part of you that is worried about paying for it, which is natural.

Don't feel guilty about being human, you are doing the best you can and you will make a plan around this.

  • The question

[Read the article: The China syndrome]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    should have two parts.

The first is what stopped China's advance, and the second is what prompted Europe's advance?

Europe went through what amounted to the slow disintegration of its religion. The Christianity of today really isn't the same as the Christianity of 1000AD. The Great Plague started it, the Renaisance nurtured it, the Industrial revolution brought it to fruition and the Bush Age is trying to kill it.

Meanwhile China didn't have this great disintegration because its religious leanings weren't nearly as draconian or point blank stupid as the Church's during the dark ages.

Now of course, the issue is being reversed, China is advancing because for all of its flaws, the engines of thought that drive it are sort of rational, while the West is trying to fall back to "Ancient knowledge" that is about as valid as believing in witches.
