[Read the article: Obama is wrong about the gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is much more convenient to whine about "Elites" than it is to actually think about the inconvenient truths they are telling you.
The Bush administration relied on that with Global Warming, the Iraq War, and their tax cuts. They relied on you being too stupid to wonder why the experts were saying what they were saying - they relied on you being such a frigging dumbass that you would simply write these experts off as being "Elitists."
And that reliance proved to be dramatically and ultimately, well founded. Bush won twice on pretty much the same arguements that are proving to be effective for Hillary's campaign.
The economists don't like this tax vacation because it does nothing about supply and demand, it doesn't up supply, it doesn't drop demand all it does is make it cheaper to buy gas. All it does is take a huge amount of money out of the hands of the guys maintaining your roads, and gives you the price of a bag of crisps in return.

Here is the truth of economic fallout.
[Read the article: Obama is wrong about the gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you are old, uneducated and from a third world country the world doesn't want you. If you are over sixty the world will not take you in it will leave you to die.
This is the truth learned by every third world child who wants to emigrate. This is the consequence of what happens when America goes bankrupt.
Do you of the older generation really want lower taxes if it means America cannot pay its bills? Or do you think that the younger generation, which can go elsewhere, is going to hang around forever and pick up your tab?

[Read the article: Obama is wrong about the gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yeah, you and just about every other American I have met in the last two years (You know, when denying that he is about as useful as sniffing cyanide to cure a cold) didn't vote Bush. Riiight. Meanwhile he won in 2004 and came close enough to steal the elections in 2000.
Besides the "You" is in plural. It is the level of America that still goes on about "Elites" after the non-elites proved to be so successful at screwing everything up this last few years.

inkredulous
[Read the article: Obama is wrong about the gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You might want to review that post.
Hillary is proposing the tax break. Obama is opposed to it.

There is a basic rule online
[Read the article: Obama is wrong about the gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Online: Everybody is a doctor/professor/lawyer/soldier and nobody voted Bush.
Real world: A person who claims to be a doctor/professor/laywer/soldier and a non Bush supporter online, probably voted Bush and lives in a trailer.

It is rather telling
[Read the article: The Brazile-Begala smackdown]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That Begala is talking about "Eggheads" in this whole thing - a slur identified as being used primarily by stupid people who want to insult people who have actually gotten out of the gutter, studied and done something with their lives.
That is the heart of how the blue collar Clinton supporter Democrats see educated people - as being worthless.
If you want to tell your kids that they can grow up stupid, that they should avoid going to college, that actually listening to what experts have to say about the subjects they study - vote Hillary.
That is the central message she is selling you, education is bad. Working hard and getting a degree is for that specific breed of devil spawn called "Latte Liberals." Actually doing anything proactive yourself to improve your living standard in America by say, becoming qualified for something more than being a factory worker, makes you a dirty "Elite."
This is the message that the Republicans sold too, and it is the message that the Hillbots - those Hillary supporters who use Republican slurs for members of their own party, have bought.
If you don't want your kids to live lives that go nowhere, if you want your kids to succeed, do you really want to sell them this message too?

Tree Hugger
[Read the article: The Brazile-Begala smackdown]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Actually what I am saying is that the educated shouldn't have their voices dismissed because they are "Elites" as posters like ShawnWM and RedGTI seem to think, or like comentators such as Begala seem to believe. That is the heart of the "Egghead" crack.
Think about what is means when people talk sneeringly of "Latte liberals" which is basically calling a rich person who is trying to do good a hypocrite for NOT being a cartoon villain. When you use that language you are telling your kid to fail, because it is specifically aimed at attacking success.
And of course, when I say "Hillbot" I do not mean all Hillary supporters, any given politician can attract a range of people for a range of reasons. I mean those virulent posters whose first response to Obama's speech on race was to say "Obama threw his grandma under the bus."
We are all focussed on the needs of the poor and the powerless, just because some of us have studied doesn't change that - but there comes a time when we need to recognise that those who are not poor and powerless, may have some ideas for how to fix things.
And it is time to admit that the old standby of "You elitist dirtbag" response to an argument made from an educated position has landed America with two wars, two recessions, two major disasters and two terms under a monkey. It is time to listen to what the elitist dirtbags are saying - they may just have a point.
And it is also past time that the working class got it together to say "We aren't the blue collar workers, we don't care what beer the president drinks and we aren't "The people" or some sacred silent majority we are people. Treat us accordingly."
Because the other side of this fight is getting pissed off too. There are only so many times an Obama supporter whose views may be shaped on anything from percieved racism in Clinton's campaign, to opposition to her approach to foreign policy to opposing her on censorship can take being called a naive loony-left latte liberal elitist.
