Texas Dem

Here is the central philosophy of "Centrism."

First, you read a compromise. Then you go to the negotiating table so that you can compromise some more.

If anyone points out that you have achieved bugger all, you call them nuts for you know, actually wanting a party which will actually achieve anything.

Meanwhile, the rightwing, drags America into being a war-mad theocracy which engages in torture while leaving its poorest to forage whenever a disaster hits.

The Republicans are so focussed on Hillary because they WANT the Dems to elect Hillary.

It is pretty much the same as when Osama was releasing tapes whenever a critical election happened - he would voice his support for the Dems and ensure the Republicans a few votes.

As a note:

Both Obama and Hillary are centrists. Hillary, is running on being a tough centrist on the issues, and Obama wants to find some middle ground with the Republicans.

They are of course, both dumbasses for thinking this will solve anything - it is exactly the same mentality which allowed the Republicans to yank America rightwards into what it is today.

That said, between the two Obama shows the more promise because he has the magic ingredients Hillary lacks - a cool head and charisma. The former means he can think clearly when other people are panicking, the latter means that while his stance is a compromise from the outset - he will occassionally get things through.

Hillary does not have the charisma to get things through without compromising further, and her position is already a compromise.

WES

Didn't the Democrats agree to boycott Fox News?

And doesn't Hillary appearing on that propaganda outlet basically tell us that she is a line crosser?

Oh, and while we are on the subject: Do you really think Fox doesn't know the effect it has whenever it slams Hillary on her gender?

Monday, February 4, 2008 06:18 AM

Hey it is not the only time

she told the Democratic Party where it could shove its decisions.

She also pledged to fight for a certain state to get its delegates - after they voted for her of course.

W.E.S.

Most Democrats and their supporters (This one included) believe that the propaganda arm of the Republican party shouldn't be given that degree of legitimacy.

Monday, February 4, 2008 07:14 AM

This was a calculated move by Fox News

and Kristol to drive white female voters over to Hillary Clinton.

It is transparent reverse psychology.

bignose

Fox News' ratings are down because the Dems have finally grown a pair, started ignoring the "Chicken" taunts of Republican trolls like WES, and decided to starve the beast.

With the Democrats point blank refusing to appear on Fox, Fox News has lost its ability to effectively cover the elections, which means that those who actually want decent election coverage have to go to people like CNN.

Further, it signals the Democrats no longer being willing to put up with outright Republican propoganda. For the Democrats to go back to Fox, would be to say, at the very least "Fox isn't a propaganda arm anymore."

W.E.S.

You know, your brand of cynicism is basically the same worthless dreck that has been shoved down voters throats for decades.

The basic ideology of "It isn't going to change so why bother?" that leads to nothing changing. The message which keeps liberals home and America deadlocked in a two party state where people don't so much vote for someone as against someone else, where what matters isn't the greater good, but the lesser evil.

It is pissing on the ideal of hope in the name of the ideal of despair, and then smugly patting yourself on the back when things continue to go wrong.

And that is what Hillary offers the Democrats - just another lesser evil. At least some Democrats feel comfortable voting FOR Obama, if it comes down to Clinton versus McCain? It will be a vote against McCain just like a vote for Kerry was against Bush.

W.E.S.

A vote for Hillary is no surer a bet than a vote for Obama.

In fact it is the far dumber bet - you are betting that America is less sexist than racist, and that Clinton's high negatives with the young, the old, the conservatives and the liberals will be somehow better than the negatives Obama arouses amongst the white sheet crowd.

Jaben's post should get a star.

That is the main reason why Hillary is NOT dominating amongst the educated and higher income groups while Obama is.

He has more substance to him.

Bullshit.

Hillary may not have made political office, but she would have made partner at the Rose law firm on her own, and would have sat on the Wal-Mart board.

I don't like her, but as union-busting Republicans go she is one of the more competent ones and one should not write off all of her achievements just because she married well.

I owe Hillary supports an appology

I just checked the site Jaben linked to and found him to be lying. Hillary's record is much more extensive than he would have one believe.

Again, I appologise.

On voting for someone who "can win"

Look, in 2004 the Democrats did precisely that with Kerry.

A war hero who was strictly middle of the road and largely innoffensive, Kerry even shot for that unifier label with people talking about him having echoes of Mandela going for him.

He got crushed pretty thoroughly by a president who had managed to land America in two wars, failed to stop the worst terrorist attack in history and who by that time had a name for being borderline retarded.

Don't vote for the guy you think will win, vote for the person you think will lead America best.

The Czarina

Part of the reason Kerry lost is that the Republicans defined his campaign for him.

The Democratic party is ready for McCain.
