  • Kick him out.

[Read the article: My son is almost 30 and won't leave home]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am in my mid twenties, live at home, eat the food and take advantage of the whole setup. I am a full time employee, earning enough to be taxed.

I pay board, take my parents out for supper occassionally, and I have paid towards bettering the place. I do not consider requests for some help around the house unreasonable, and I am perfectly willing to assist with the finances when asked. I do not think that my parents are made out of money.

I fully plan on supporting my parents in their old age - and when I eventually buy a house I plan on moving them into it because frankly I like my family and want to keep it together.

Kick the snot out because frankly, all he is doing is leeching off of you. There is nothing wrong with living at home, but there is a lot wrong with taking advantage of the people you care about.

  • Reagan also...

[Read the article: How Bush betrays Reagan]

opposed sanctions being declared on SA during Apartheid.

He even called the ANC a terrorist organisation, and tried to veto the bill that finally brought America over to being opposed to it.

    Congress then overrode Reagan's veto.

Oh, so lying about Ramos and Compean is acceptable all of a sudden? When did it become a rule that lying is okay so long as it fits your prejudices?

There is a real problem with illegal immigration in America, but that problem is not helped by turning people who shot other people in the back into heroes.

The thing that is shocking me here:

Ramos and Compean shot a guy in the back. He was not threatening them in any way, he wasn't armed and he was running away. The border agents tried to hide the evidence. The guy who got shot happened to be a Mexican so somehow that makes it okay.

Meanwhile America is engaged in secret rendition with people with suspicious surnames. They get kidnapped, shipped off to third world hellholes, and tortured, but that is okay because they aren't American citizens.

I ask you Americans, how long will it be until the rest of us get sick to death with your moralising that it is okay so long as it isn't a Yanky that gets hurt, and start treating YOU to the same standard as you treat us?

  • The Democratic weakness.

[Read the article: Killing her softly with his song]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Democratic party's greatest weakness is that it doesn't understand that being branded "lite" is about the worst mistake you can make. By trying to be the same as the Republicans, they alienated the liberal vote in 2000, 2002 and in 2004 while failing to grab the conservative vote's attention.

What America want's is a different candidate, a candidate who really is an alternative to the Republicans, and that candidate is Obama.

Obama is not different simply because he holds differing views on the Iraq war to the rest of the Democrats, but because he holds a differing philosophy on just how to govern altogether.

While the rest of the candidates, left and right, seem to be shouting angrily and really showing no signs of changing the things they rail against, Obama talks softly and shows more steel in him then the lot of them, except maybe Kucinich.

  • Warn your other friends

[Read the article: I let my friends stay with me and now they're evicting me!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Spread the word around that these scumbags are not to be trusted and get help from the people you know. The story of what is happening here should not leave these psychopaths free to screw other people.

  • Okay, so what you have here is...

[Read the article: Fred Thompson is just like you]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A guy with no positions on anything of import, who can pretend to be just an average slacker-type-guy, and who you feel you can have a beer with.

Two towers, two wars, and two major economic crisis later we can all see how well that one worked last time now can't we?

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that:

He supports single payer healthcare, is one of the guys who was right in the first place in Iraq (And he has an exit strategy lined up for it) is in favour of repealing the Patriot Act, wants America to withdraw from NAFTA and the WTO, supports organic farming, supports equal rights for same-sex marriages, wants cleaner environmental standards, supports gun control etc...

On an issues basis, he should be in the lead. Unfortunately, on an issues basis, he doesn't have a very good fundraising base.

[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In the 1990's America was making record surplusses. Right now, America is making record deficits.

In the 1990's America wasn't seriously at war. Right now, America is at two of them.

In the 1990's America's debt with China wasn't enough to seriously threaten America's economic integrity. Right now, if China so much as stopped lending money to America, your economy would collapse.

In the 1990's, right or wrong, America could afford to bail out its big business. Right now, not so much.

We could just have regulations which make sure that people who can't afford a loan, and who are something of a credit risk (IE: Bad with money), don't get loans which they are inevitably going to default on.

  • Aww, Tildy

[Read the article: This Modern World]

You seem to think that America is a welfare state, and that those loans were made as some sort of charity.

It isn't and they weren't. Those people couldn't afford the loans they were getting, they got nailed with high interest rates which they were never going to pay off, and the land got reposessed.

Your whole empty whine about housing the poor is just that, an empty whine. Housing people on debt doesn't last and it doesn't fix anything.

The thing is to build up the economy so that those people can afford those loans, and afford those homes. Just leaving it up to banking CEOs who aren't going to even be around in five years time doesn't solve anything.
