Our Planet Is Threatened

If the ACORN "scandal" is the best that the GOP can do, then it is truly bankrupt of ideas that actually help to solve the real problems facing us today. In contrast, ACORN has done far more good than harm.

Beck got his headlines and probably a raise to boot. In that sense his report fulfilled its main objective.

Was Lewinsky A Plant

put in the White House under the direction of the Republican Dirty Tricks Division with the intent to seduce a willing president and instructed to save any evidence (such as a semen-stained dress) while Ken Starr's fishing expedition wandered around for years looking for something (ANYTHING!) to accuse Bill of doing?

Just wondering.

@something really stinks

My getting around, as such, is ancient history given that I am now very, very close to 70 years of age.

But you do remind me of the good times and the soiled clothing resulting from awkward attempts at lovemaking while parked in a car too small in a parking area too crowded with other couples attempting to couple.

Fortunately, there were some successful attempts and the population of San Francisco stabilized somewhat.

And I, having to share a closet with my much younger sister, was sure to wash away whatever evidence that had somehow found its way onto my clothing.

@groundzero

"Was Lewinsky a plant" was a tongue-in-cheek post and I'm sorry that you completely missed the point.

BTW, are you a Republican?

@NotOrbitBoy

I'm very, very, very happy with Medicare. It works, and that is why the moneychangers and their Republican representatives are against any public option.

Come to think about it, ask Republicans 65 or over if they are using Medicare. The answers may surprise you.

@LondonLad

And while you are basking in your forest of imagined trees think back in time to when the ground you are standing on was a mass of molten sulfur and iron and the first protoplasmic blobs of goo were forming in the mists and heat of a new planet eventually populated by creatures evolutionized beyond their mental capacity and capable of engineering their own destruction while defective brain cells produced mental images of progress and harmony in the midst of impending chaos and destruction leading back to molten sulfur and iron.

Call It Medicare II

Medicare II would require premium payments for people under the age of 65.

Enrollment in Medicare II would be approved only when a person is unable to pay for private insurance or is unable to get private insurance due to a preexisting condition.

Persons unable to pay anything would be covered under Medicare II. This would unburden hospital emergency clinics' costs somewhat.

More Fox Faux Funnies

"And Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly explained (9/25/09): "All hell breaking loose as a new nuclear weapons facility is discovered in Iran, proving the mullahs have been lying for years." He added: "Iran's nuclear weapons program has now reached critical mass. And worldwide conflict is very possible. Friday, President Obama, British Prime Minister Brown and French President Sarkozy revealed a secret nuclear weapons facility located inside Iran.""

Fox News never lets the facts get in the way of its reporting.

It Is Still Happening

The unfounded attacks on Obama that are presented as "news" in the mainstream press are echos of what happened during the Clinton terms in the White House.

The players are the same: Fox News, The N.Y. Times, The WaPo, the WSJ, and others are repeating unfounded garbage as fact.

The Obama Administration has had enough. Its policy now is to respond directly and immediately to rumors and lies. Fox News has been singled out as worst offender of factual journalism. No surprises there.

@Raise Up

Thank you for the research. I've often wondered about someone who chooses a firearm as a sig.

Original article: Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

From The Nobel Website

"Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

I think this fairly sums up the Nobel Committee rationale in awarding Obama the Nobel.

Taking The World's View

Much of the criticism towards Obama receiving the award comes from folks espousing a myopic, American view of world events.

But let us credit the Nobel Committee with a broader world view and one based upon hope for a better future.

To this end, Obama is deserving of the prize. Too many Americans would refuse Obama this honor based upon what's wrong in the world, as opposed to what is right.

And, bottom line, if the GOP is opposed to Obama receiving the Nobel, that is furter qualification of him deserving the award.

Go to the Nobel website. It is refreshing compared to much of the stuff posted here.
