Not Too Bad, Actually

So far, Obama has done pretty well considering the minefield the Repukes have laid out for him.

On his first full day as president, Obama met with the military commanders in charge of Iraq to talk about a plan to end the war. On Feb. 27, Obama announced an 18-month drawdown plan that would end the mission in Iraq on Aug. 31, 2010, but keep 35,000 to 50,000 troops there.

With his signature, Obama put in place new rules on openness and transparency for his administration and futures ones, including efforts to shut the revolving door between the lobbying world and the federal government.

Under Obama's rules, lobbyists who become members of the administration will not be able to work on matters they lobbied on for two years, or in the agencies they lobbied during the previous two years.

Obama kicked off his health care effort with a summit at the White House March 5.

The goal of the day was not to develop a concrete proposal, but rather bring all of the key players on this issue together in one room. Obama addressed an audience of 150 participants, including Democrats, Republicans and advocates for doctors, nurses, patients, labor unions and business groups.

On March 9, Obama signed an executive order reversing President Bush's 2001 order banning the use of federal funding for research on new embryonic stem cell lines.

The first piece of legislation Obama signed was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which changed the law to make it easier for those suing employers because of alleged pay discrimination.

"Now is the time to keep the promise of equal pay for an equal day's work, because I want my daughters to have exactly the same opportunities as your sons," Obama said in his speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver Aug. 28, 2008.

A new Supreme Court justice has been installed.

Worldwide meetings have opened up relations with countries previously ignored (or worse) by Bush. Positive signs are emerging with our relationship with Iran. This is no small thing as Iran has vexed American leadership for far too many years.

The Obama Administration has established a truth channel to blog responses to Fox News' lies. (For those wondering, Fox is the Republican response to conservatives' paranoia about mainstream news being biased against Republicans. As such, it is not meant to be "fair and balanced" as advertised. Rather, it is blatantly partisan and features extreme right wing views, name-calling, and outright hatred of Obama).

The Office

Gervais' performance in the British series "The Office" is pure genius. The original version of the show puts the American version to shame.

In addition to writing for the show, Gervais' performance as the two-faced manager is to be treasured.

Some Of Us Have Short Memories

Ask why the Republicans have lost two major elections and lost seats in the House and the Senate.

The answer is eight years of Bush in the White House.

To fully list Bush's failures as president would exceed the patience of any normal person.

The GOP Cannot Stand The Smell Of Its Own Shit

Funny how the Republicans react when someone gives back what they dish out.

I love it.

Do This

Carefully measure the ground clearance of your car, and your neighbor's. If yours exceeds his proceed as follows:

1. Purchase a very heavy slab of concrete whose thickness permits your car to pass over it, but not your neighbors.

2. Place this slab in the center of your space and use some epoxy cement to keep it from "walking away". Paint it bright yellow.

3. Warn everyone in the complex not to park in that space due to the possibility of catastrophic damage to their car's undercarriage.

4. Be sure to keep your tires fully inflated at all times.

Leonard Pitts Gets It Right

Pitts, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, gets it right in his column today criticizing Fox News' reporting as false and misleading. He cites examples of statements made by Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly and others, showing specific lies and purposeful misinformation.

This is propaganda, pure and simple, and it smells like an organized conspiracy.

You say, "Obama promised no more than 8% unemployment. He said the stimulus was going to save us. It hasn't. When we pull out of it - and we will, because most recessions end in about 16 months - all those trillions we spent will come back as inflation. Then, reality will really kick you in the ass. But, what am I saying? This is just math and Economics 101. You libs left the reality-based community a long long time ago."

One has to wonder just how stupid we are to expect eight years of Bush Administration mismanagement to be fixed in eight months. Does this prove that the average American has the patience of a 10 year old?

Come to think about it, who is Monica Lewinsky really? I mean, if one wanted to bring down a a president known to have eyes for other women wouldn't it be useful to employ an attractive, well-trained-in-the-sex-department, someone to work in the White House and with access to the president?

By "well-trained" I mean someone who can engage in a sexual act and provide proof, later on, that the act did indeed happen.

Hence, The Dress.

How many women keep semen-stained dresses in their closets, or in a safe deposit box perhaps?

Hmmm.

You can cite statistics all day but one fact remains very clear, the economy today is not Obama's fault. Rather it is the fault of regulatory mismanagement during most of Bush's term and during much of Clinton's term.

Clinton's economic idea was to push the pedal to the metal and the explosive 90s took off economically.

Bush failed to heed the warning signs of an overheated economy and he did nothing to head off the impending train wreck. Instead, he pushed tax cuts and even more military spending.

We Have A Public Option

It's called Medicare. Why can't it be modified to provide means-tested coverage?

We also have emergency rooms and clinics where one cannot be refused treatment regardless of their inability to pay. These are, by the way, the most expensive because they do not provide preventive care.
