@David W

Here is the AMA position on healthcare reform. I do not see where they are against it:

"The AMA Vision for Health System Reform"

"No one said that achieving meaningful health system reform this year was going to be easy. But tackling the tough challenges is something the American Medical Association (AMA) has been doing for 162 years."

"As the nation’s largest organization representing physicians from every state and nearly every medical specialty—and the patients in their care—we are committed to achieving health system reform this year that:

Protects the sacred relationship between patients and their physicians, without interference by insurance companies or the government

Provides affordable health insurance for all through a choice of plans and eliminates denials for pre-existing conditions

Promotes quality, prevention and wellness initiatives

Repeals the Medicare physician payment system that harms seniors' access to care

Eases the crushing weight of medical liability and insurance company bureaucracy"

@Nathan Coker

You forgot about the Kent State killings. How convenient.

You'll admit that Reich was digging pretty deep to use something published in the AMA journal in the '30s.

We ceased as a democracy when it was determined that giving money equals free speech. Money destroys the "one person, one vote" basis for a democracy.

Under our present system someone like Bill Gates can hire an army of lobbyists to influence legislation. I can merely stand aside and watch as my vote is compromised or lost in the corruption.

Palin Sells Faux News Rumor To The WSJ

Obama, Aug. 11: "The rumor that’s been circulating a lot lately is this idea that somehow the House of Representatives voted for "death panels" that will basically pull the plug on grandma … this arose out of a provision in one of the House bills that allowed Medicare to reimburse people for consultations about end-of-life care, setting up living wills, the availability of hospice, et cetera. So the intention of the members of Congress was to give people more information so that they could handle issues of end-of-life care when they’re ready, on their own terms. It wasn’t forcing anybody to do anything. This is I guess where the rumor came from."

Palin and some Republicans have taken this and twisted it into a complex set of half-truths and rumors. Then, they turn around and offer it as a viable argument for Obama proposing to kill off, limit, or deny care to persons deemed to be unworthy of medical treatment.

The Republicans have driven the healthcare debate into a cesspool.

See FactCheck.org.

KISS

Keep it simple, stupid should apply to the healthcare proposals.

We are a nation of fools with a 12 year olds' understanding of complex issues. The GOP plays to this quite well.

It is difficult to see the truth while standing in the wreckage and sewage left after years of Republican rule, but even you should be able to tell the difference between an Administration lying in order to attack another country and an Administration trying to better the lives of folks here at home.

Anyone can walk (or be carried) into an Emergency Room anywhere in the US and receive medical treatment, regardless of citizenship or ability to pay.

So the entire "illegal immigrant" paranoia doesn't apply.

As a "Christian" nation it is sometime difficult to behave accordingly but we should try nonetheless.

No doubt you treasure the type of meeting depicted in Lawrence of Arabia when the massive "town hall" meeting erupted into chaos.

The GOP is exhibiting all of the traits of a defeated, leaderless Party. The rabble on the right have taken over.

How Low Can We Go?

Well, the stick is 6 inches off the ground and Steele managed to slide under it.

The entire GOP spin machine is now in the garbage business.

Great posts, and very entertaining in the way that they spark numerous responses on this Board.

The next time I wanna make a point perhaps I should make an outrageous statement to get some attention. Once everyone's blood pressure is 180/120 I can say anything I want.

Hitler's rallies worked because he was able to perceive peoples deepest fears and play upon them. Then, he could state that God was on their side and be believed.

History seems to be repeating itself.

Damn.

Please furnish "facts" supporting Palin's claim that Obama wants "death panels" included in his healthcare overhaul.

Also please publish Obama's provision allowing illegal immigrants access to health insurance.

And for an historical perspective, please furnish proof that Iraq WMD existed per Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Powell claims.

Wilson's Outburst Was Planned

Yelling "you lie!" during the president's speech was a typical Republican Dirty Tricks event. You can bet that Joe Wilson had the GOP's blessing in spite of their posturing otherwise.

The overblown press coverage of Wilson's outburst created a distraction to Obama's speech. This is exactly what the Republicans planned for.

Let us hope that normal people are still the majority. Sometimes, however, I have my doubts.

Eventually all of the far right propagandist writers and media whores that you mention will be called out as events continue to prove them utterly bankrupt in the facts dept.

What these people have accomplished can be measured in the degree of deterioration of the political discourse in America. This was demonstrated quite well by the Republicans during Obama's speech before Congress and in numerous Town Hall meetings.

The Fox News audience consists of undereducated knee-jerk people calling themselves conservatives when most of them gladly accept government-provided benefits while pretending to be anti-government. Their media champions are the Becks, Hannitys, et al feeding their paranoia by playing upon their fears and prejudice.

This should be obvious to anyone even remotely connected with the facts of the issues before us today.

@doctorfixit

"At some point the liberal fascists are going to be held accountable for the disasters they have created. The time is arriving."

Let's have one "disaster" at a time, please.

Currently we are in the process of trying to fix the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Powell/Reagan disasters.
