Proof That Snake Oil Works

The Republicans are proving, once again, that snake oil can be a profitable enterprise with a sizeable portion of the American public.

Undereducated and overconsumed, Americans are looking for cures for disease brought on by years of Republican control in the White House, the Senate, the House, and the Supreme Court.

Instead of offering cures for the sickness they caused, Republicans instead offer up a mob of TV and radio personalities using every lie and innuendo in the book to convince America that Obama is leading us into socialism and communism.

Like "Engine Rebuild In A Can", much of the public is buying it and the world is laughing at us.

Amen

The Republican Party is a toothless relic depending upon media blowhards to carry its' weak message.

A proper subject for satire indeed.

@The Patriot

Anything Fox News presents should be viewed for what it is, a Republican bias.

Try NPR or PBS for the most balanced reporting available today.

The Last Gasp

of Republicanism. Like a fart in the wind, the GOP stampedes intself into obscurity.

Unfortunately for John Boehner, the emerging generation of American voters shares very little with the "Deep South" and Rush Limbaugh mentality of the GOP.

Name Something That The GOP Has Done

that matches the "social engineering" by the Democrats. Social Security, Medicare, the EPA, OSHA were fought against by the Republicans. Thank God they lost those battles.

I'm sure many more similar accomplishments have been made and Kennedy was instrumental in their passage.

Republicans' belief that profit trumps people is evident in their fight against ANY meaningful healthcare reform. They employ propagandists to distort the facts and present them as news.

They are the Party of yesterday.

Watching Fox News

and listening to Glenn Beck is a serious cause of depression.

I see a corollary between Fox/Beck ratings and mental illness.

@thorin01

You are absolutely correct. If the Dems can't get healthcare reform passed they will have failed as a viable Party in spite of the majority of Americans voting Democratic.

The penalty for failure here will be severe indeed.

Problem Solved!

I will not get on an airplane. I hate the damn things for being too crowded and a miserable way to travel.

I pity those that must travel by air.

Let The GOP Opt Out

It'd reduce costs and Republicans can buy their healthcare in Iraq.

Friday, August 28, 2009 05:27 PM

It Is Too Bad There Is No Penalty

for lying. The Republican campaign against health care has brought out the worst garbage that the GOP can scrape up.

A list of the GOP lies, published in plain language, is sorely needed.

@Ghingis Can

So, you've got yours and everyone else can go to hell?

Who do you think pays emergency room costs? You do, and it is not efficient because when someone requires ER treatment it is usually for a serious condition that may have been prevented with earlier, proper treatment.

Of course the Republicans have no problems in this regard.

They lie and cheat but they want to shove religion down our thoats.

Cheney Has A Bridge To Sell Us

It should be obvious to all by now that Dick is the most practiced liar in government.

Nuremburg Redux?

While not on the scale of the Nazi atrocities and genocide, our use of torture crosses a line that should never be crossed.

In addition, will we ever see the final body count resulting from our unecessary, Cheney/Rumsfeld devised, invasion of Iraq?

Cheney says that "torture works". I suggest that is the beginning of the slippery slope that destroys civilized societies. Cheney also asserts that any investigation into his activities constitutes mere "politics".

Are we seeing the parallel with Nuremberg yet?

The Real World

Serving in the US Army was a mentally destructive experience.

It was boring.

99% of the time was spent in formations, mess hall lines, foot locker inspections, more formations, psycho training, polishing anything that shines, cleaning living quarters, painting rocks, lining up the rocks, raking dirt, butt patrols, washing vehicles, guard duty, KP, cleaning weapons, and none of these would be a very marketable video game.

A very, very small percentage of military life involves actual combat and that is limited to an even smaller percentage of the military population.

mikebuzz

It is a short hop from using sleep deprivation, stress positions, waterboarding, in the name of "saving thousands of lives" to using those, and harsher, techniques against people suspected of all sorts of crimes.

It is a bright line that we cross at our peril because it puts us in an unwitting partnership with the worst despots in the world.

@ mary_steyr

The irony is that the old promise of "push button warfare" has morphed into video games while the real deal is still being fought on the ground with hand grenades,flame-throwers, rifles and pistols.

@old1onsalon

Gosh, I remember the "Silent Majority" from ancient US history. Wasn't that a slogan dreamed up by Richard Nixon to bolster his effort to end the Vietnam War?

Monday, August 31, 2009 04:43 PM

Where's The Proof?

Both Cheneys have asserted that "enhanced interrogation" has prevented further terrorist attacks on the US thereby saving thousands of lives, but NOT ONE EXAMPLE HAS BEEN CITED.

How gullible does one have to be in order to assign any credibility to these liars?

The GOP's Hypocrisy

Anything that the Republicans do must meet their first objective which is to keep the richest folks happy. These people are the life-blood of the GOP.

So it goes without saying that any social reforms must protect the interests of the money class. Failing that, the program is assigned to the wastebasket.

The Republicans apopleptic reaction to the enaction of the Social Security Program must have sent many of them into cardiac arrest. And now, years later, any politician seriously proposing Social Security "reform" is facing certain defeat.

This is being played out again with healthcare reform and I predict the same result. The GOP cannot slogan its way out of this one.
