If the GOP thought it possible, it would exhume Reagan and prop him up in the White House and watch while "Reaganomics" repeats itself into the financial disasters we have today.
And, for the icing on the cake, we'd see a replay of the Iran-Contra Scandal as a means to prop up the military-industrial complex and to run up the Pentagon budget.
and we're still trying to cobble together a health plan.
Obama is right to persue what he was elected to do, in spite of loser Republicans trying to derail what the public wants, but he'd be better off if he explained his plan in a consistent, simplified manner.
KISS (keep it simple, stupid) is the only way to communicate with Americans. We are a stupid bunch, it seems.
Ask yourself why an agnostic or an atheist cannot be elected to public office today, so do not presume to be surprised when politics and religion are combined together.
This cancerous hypocrisy exists in all political parties and organizations.
Dear Fellow Taxpayers,
Your taxes have really helped space-related technology. Here are some of the benefits realized. Notice how most of these are benefitting commercial interests? Aren't you happy that your ever-increasing tax dollars are making someone a lot of money?
"Technology - During the past 30 years, space program technology has resulted in more than 1,500 commercial products, including rain water purification systems for developing countries, satellite radio, digital and satellite television, cell phone technology, cordless tools, and GPS navigation in the family car, boat and even on the family farm."
"Innovation - A survey of 146 senior executives by Christian & Timbers in 2004 found that 69% agreed with a prediction that the Vision for Space Exploration would drive new technology and boost venture capital markets."
"Medical - Digital hearing aids, miniature heart pumps, cancer detection devices, common smoke detectors, fire-resistant aircraft seats, safety grooving on roads, LASIK eye surgery, humanitarian demining devices, and numerous other medical and safety devices and improvements trace their origins to space technology."
"Economy - Just 15 firms that received an initial $64 million in NASA life sciences research and added $200 million of their own money created a $1.5 billion return on investment in the form of sold commercial goods and services during 25 years (Space Policy Institute at George Washington University)."
"Environment - We have learned more about our home planet and how best to preserve and protect it due to improved software and imaging developed from the space program. Space technology is responsible for rainwater purification systems for developing countries and numerous environmentally friendly products."
The GOP will try anything to keep its face in the headlines.
The Party of no ideas, no integrity, and no bounds of indecency is being run by its' lunatic fringe.
If freedom of the press means that liars and idiots can put their faces in front of a camera and say anything they want as "factual" or "news" than we are failing miserably as a democracy.
I only watch mainstream news as entertainment. If I want facts I search the web or go to Public Broadcasting.
The average American is as dumb as a post, so I don't see this situation improving.
The Sarah Palin thing didn't work too well and the GOP really needs a woman somewhere in its upper political echelons so Liz may be the answer.
Narrow minds don't have a lot of room for nuance or creativity or abstract thinking.
"Keep Things Simple, Stupid" applies to any communication with Republicans.
If it is necessary for the health of the mother it is just another medical procedure, and it should be treated as such.
I don't like "elective" abortion, but it is legal, and therefore it is a "medical procedure".
so when someone comes along who actually wants to fix something we all become critical doubters looking for the flaws in whatever is being proposed.
Perhaps a rule is needed: Let's try "Constructive Ideas Only". That way ideas, not politics or personalities, are able to build a concensus.
and ours is no exception.
The issues raised in this report cannot be fixed not because solutions do not exist, but because we are incapable of altering human nature.
In my 69 years on this planet I have seen a steady degrading of our political culture and the degrading of the ideals that founded this country.
"Civilization" is what I meant to write.
If someone comes into my home demanding to see my ID I'd feel justified in telling that person to go to hell, or get a search warrant.
The Land Of Freedom cannot survive if someone without a court warrant can demand to see your ID in your own home.
It's that simple.
The only "community" that the rich respect is one that they can profit from.
Glenn's research alone has provided enough reason for domestic news organizations to get busy and inform the public about the details of the Bush/Cheney destruction of our civil rights.
Perhaps the apparent lack of interest in the mainstream press is due to a general apathy about the Bush Administration's antics.
People cannot learn from history if they ignore it.
for causing all of this to happen in the first place.
If someone enters my home demanding to see ID my angry reaction is perfectly justified.
Anything that I do under those circumstances, short of physical violence, is not a crime. Anything I say is protected speech.
Obama was wrong to apologize for his remark.
is the basis for conservative politics in America.
No limit is placed upon the effort to bend the minds of the electorate. The line bewtween lies and truth is blurred beyond recognition and this has led to a populace that accepts our system of government as a democracy, instead of recognizing it for what it is: A system of special interests and bankrupt ideology.
