Original article: Torture and truthiness

RobbySh

Releasing all of the documents will not change the fact that torture was used.

Cheney's assertion is that the documents will somehow provide a justification for the use of torture.

Cheney just doesn't get it. There is no justification under US law, the Geneva Accords, and treaties for the use of torture.

Once we start looking for reasons and loopholes allowing the use of torture we have crossed the line. We become the enemy.

Saving America

Imagine a guy strapped down and being waterboarded for the 20th time. What is he going to say?

Is he going to ask "What's for lunch today?" or is he going to say anything that will make the waterboarding stop.

The fact that Cheney would propose a justification for torture sheds a very bright light into his criminal mind and the stupidity of his supporters.

Look Around You

I don't care what the Bush apologists say. I know what I see, and that is all that is needed to know the failures of the Bush presidency.

For eight years Bush fiddled while America was burning.

@Alkaline

I am amazed at the number of "Christians" that have told me that torture is justified.

@mjkoc

The prosecution of Bush, Cheney, and everyone involved with the use of torture, must be done in order to preserve the rule of law and our leadership in the free world.

To do otherwise puts us a notch below the aplogists for torture, and assures that subsequent Administrations will not have to fear the consequences for breaking laws and treaties.

A very hard line has to be drawn here. Either we are a nation of laws or we are not.

The Rule Of Law

has to be above politics, above religion, above expediency, above anyone past and present in government (as it is with private citizens).

There should be no further discussion as to whether officials should be prosecuted for violating laws and treaties.

Investigate, and if evidence exists for prosecution move forward with all vigor.

I'm Not Surprised

The Repukes are regurgitating 50s era name-calling.

It's a pity that 4,000 Americans and 90,000 Iraqis deaths fail to move the Repukes but renaming the Democratic Party occupies their time.

Fox News move over, your supremacy in the world of idiots is being challenged.

Original article: The shaming of America

Obamalamadingdong

Your twisted, Fox News inspired and Obama-hating argument holds no water. Speaking of which, have you been waterboarded? Ever been put in a box? Kept sleepless for days?

No? I didn't think so.

The dark cloud that we have been under during the Bush years is gone. Obama is making strides to rebuild American moral values and to engage the world in a productive way, opposite the Bush/Cheney manifesto "our way or no way".

If Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice or others in the Bush Administration are guilty of formulating policy approving torture they should be prosecuted and imprisoned if necessary.

That will send a clear message to anyone thinking that torture is "justified".

The World Is Watching

to see how this country, being an advocate for democracy, human decency, religious values, the rule of law, international treaties, anti-abortion policies, feeding the starving, etc. can entertain the slightest notion that the enablers and the perpetrators of torture can be excused on any grounds whatsoever.

Thursday, April 23, 2009 08:06 AM

SadButTrue

Dick Cheney is a liar and a national disgrace. Fox News employs Hannity, a known propagandist, to "interview" Cheney.

The world watches, hoping for some insight into a man who proclaims that torture "was justified".

Unfortunately Hannity is not up to the task, being scripted by his handlers, and wastes everyone's time.

Nobody wants to believe that we are the enablers of bad government when we elect smooth-talking liars like Cheney. The mentally-challenged Bush was elected to two terms. Did people think that Cheney was there just to sweep the floors?

If we do not prosecute all that were responsible for torturing prisoners we will set the stage for future Administrations to set their own rules, regardless of international laws, treaties, and just plain human decency.

Original article: Farewell, Shabby Chic

Yesterday's Junk

is today's shabby chic. I guess it is harmless enough but I'm leery of people spending huge sums for stuff that is pushed in home fashion magazines.

It suggests that we are, indeed, a very shallow culture where materialism is the dominant theme.

Perhaps now folks will learn a new respect for money, and a distaste for wasting it.

@Groenhagen

It must be nice to live in a simple-minded world where everything is Clinton's fault. We were fed up with this garbage during the Bush presidency and you bring it up while you refuse to assign any blame or responsibility to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al.

What you Bush apologists refuse to understand is that we had no business in Iraq in the first place. Instead, you wrap yourself in the Flag and refuse to see the writing on the wall.

So here is a little primer for idiots. Iraq had no WMD and we used questionable intelligence to lie ourselves into a useless war. We used shameful interrogation techniques that angered the world and helped the terrorists' cause. We brought terrorism and religious warfare into Iraq.

That asshole Dick Cheney repeated lies about Iraqi WMD, aluminum tubes, and biological weapons trailers long after all of that stuff was disproven.

Thanks to people like you, we, as a country espousing democracy and human respect are in a position where we are having to defend our despicable policies or apologize for them.

Stop talking about what Clinton did 10 years ago and remember the Nuremberg trials and the promise of "never again" and think about the fact that it, indeed, may have happened again. Whether its is 6 million, 60 million, or a few dozen does not change the law. Torture is torture.
