@Mr E

If I'm understanding correctly, you are saying that it may be OK to break laws in search of a greater good while later punishment for that action may be necessary?

In other words, the end justifies the means?

This goes against all that is keeping us from becoming just another banana republic where revolution and assassination replaces the rule of law and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

In my opinion, the Bush Administration should be held to account for any illegal action on their part, and punished accordingly.

Bush appears to be a pious hypocrite, the worst kind of person to be in power in a democracy. His term should live in infamy.

Great Music

The Mormons have a great choir and a wonderful pipe organ.

I'll give them that, and only that.

GOP Must Repudiate The Obama Haters

The news reports listing hate incidents around the country since the election are very scary, but predictable after seeing some of the idiots attending McCain's and Palin's rallies.

The GOP should make it very clear that racial hatred is absolutely not acceptable, although it seemed to be tolerated at GOP rallies supporting McCain and Palin.

I fear for our country should Obama or his family be harmed by these lunatics.

The Need For Prosecution Is Absolute

The Bush Administration must be held to account for its unamerican activity. Our free world leadership depends upon justice being done.

It's not bad enough that Bush has sullied our reputation as a nation of "Justice for All", Now we can add the Bush Administration and its supporters to the list of causes for the ensuing economic disaster facing the entire free world.

The effects of waterboarding are defined in the Military Code as "mental torture".

@zoltan newberry

Please read the post, "You Had To Be There". The writer hits the nail on the head.

I was there also. I remember the outrage caused by our government's lying and coverups during the Vietnam War. I remember having serious doubts about going to Vietnam if my Army Reserve unit was called to action (we were on Active Standby).

I remember the sincerity and the outrage of the war protestors, and the sometimes violent responses to peaceful protests. I remember the "America haters" taunts by people supporting that useless war.

America was in a constant state of rage, it seems. A virtual nightmare. So groups like the Weather Underground gained traction because there seemed to be no other way to get the attention focused on just how wrong the Vietnam War was.

Remember this: 55,000 Americans killed, many, many more badly wounded, God knows how many Vietnamese died, and America torn apart as a nation.

That is the legacy of that War.

Republicans Cannot Learn

H.L. Mencken said: "I thank God I was not born a Republican".

This speaks volumes. I read it to mean that in order to be a Republican you must be totally immune to nuance and a conviction that the end will always justify the means.

The Sniping Begins

Obama was elected because of his leadership ability. Let's let him lead.

Right now, I trust his judgement. He has run an almost perfect election campaign, and that in itself is a severe test of leadership.

Hillary is one of the brightest people in Washington. If she is selected as secretary of state, she will rise to the task.

Looking back, I remember the dismay when Bush surrounded himself with a bunch of recycled Vietnam War hawks and other wingnuts.

Not So Fast

Trains increase and decrease their speed using their engine(s) so fuel is used for braking.

I'm assuming that the CSX fuel use calculation assumes that a train is at speed and rolling on level track. Any deviance from that condition increases the load on the engines. Curves increase wheel to rail friction, and grades, up or down, increase engine load.

Cars and trucks are subject to the same forces with the exception that these vehicles do not use fuel for braking. Owing to less mass, however, smaller vehicles are more efficient at changing their speed and climbing grades.

So, it would be interesting to know the actual port-to-port fuel efficiency comparison. I'm pretty sure that the train will be the most efficient, but it would be good to know nontheless.

Does This Matter?

I've never taken Hannity seriously. Rather, he is a joke, a symbol of what is wrong with TV talk shows.

@Rambling Rose 22

Like the War On Drugs? That hasn't worked very well, in spite of spending huge law enforcement resources and prison sentences (for 2 ounces of pot), etc.

Hypocrisy feeds terrorism and we have been very inconsistent in our policies toward the Middle East. We were perceived to be attacking Iraq not because of terrorism, but to ensure the availability of its oil and to kill Saddam Hussein.

Idiots like Bush feed terrorists. He has played their game and he has handed them the lives of 4,000+ Americans, many thousands wounded, and countless dead Iraqis civilians.

If our mission is to be the world's peacekeeper, we have to expect that not everyone will agree with our attempts to promote democracy and freedom. Violent resistance is guaranteed, as long as ignorant policies and lawbreaking exist in Washington.
