The GOP (God's Party) is banking on success in Iraq to save it from an election disaster in 2008.
Watch for the Rovian lies about "success on the ground in Iraq" to begin.
Nothing is beneath these people.
Every time he opens his mouth, the GOP loses votes.
Yet another mishandled Iraq situation. The Iraq War has painted the USA as being led by a bunch of incompetent criminals.
Thank you, Bush & Co.
The neocons are the true enemy of America. Their track record so far is one of wasted lives, irreparable damage to our reputation, our treasury, and increased division in our political system.
Of course the Surge is reducing violence in the areas covered by the increase in troops. That is to be expected.
But, it is temporary - unless we are prepared to remain in a "Surge" state permanently.
So the reduction in violence is a false sense of security. As soon as we begin to reduce the size of our forces the violence will increase.
Bush's strategy is, at best, a gamble and the odds are not in our favor.
The only audiences that Bush will speak to are hand-picked supporters of the GOP.
If Bush tried to give a speech to an average American audience, he would be booted off the podium.
The Vietnam War was concocted out of the same kinds of lies used to invade Iraq.
It's interesting that Bush compared Iraq to Vietnam because both wars show American policy at its worst.
One would think that one Vietnam would be enough but, oh no, the Idiot Bush brings us another.
I wish I could feel better about this because I can smell another Rovian act here.
Anything the GOP does is for the benefit of the GOP.
Republicans are trying to plaster over their corruption and mismanagement in time for the 08 Election.
The Dems need to keep Bush's lies, misdeeds, and mismanagement front and center during the election campaign.
It is amazing that not one person in the Bush Administration will face impeachment.
Is the rule of law dead in our country?
The spin starts. Let's hope that Congress asks the tough questions that need to be answered.
The GAO report makes Bushco look bad. Therefore the GAO report must be changed.
This pretty much sums up the entire Bush presidency. When the facts look bad, modify them to suit the moment.
Is it any wonder that our government is at such a low approval rating?
I watched Powell as he spoke before the UN, espousing the Bush Administration rationale for an attack on Iraq and I could tell that his heart was not in what he was saying.
I believe that he knew that the intel about Saddam's WMD was very weak but he tried to say otherwise. This went against Powell's grain because he is an honorable person.
Hence, his resignation from further service to the corrupt Bush Administration.
Boy, the Repukes just cannot leave this alone. I guess they have to hate someone, or something, so let it be gay marriage.
When the straights can get the divorce rate down, then they can worry about what other folks are up to.
I'm proud to say that I cancelled my premium cable TV service. I kept the Basic service only to watch public television and football.
TV comedy shows are not funny. Toilet jokes and phoney laughtracks have put me off of the poorly written plots.
Drama shows are mostly about people that I don't care about.
TV commercials are longer and increasingly stupid (they are aimed at an audience of idiots).
Bush, true to form, tries to paint a rosy picture using mud and lies. His "big announcement" is no more than what was known all along - that we could not sustain surge-level troop size for very long.
The "insurgents" in Iraq know this. They are waiting for the inevitable troop reductions and they will continue as before.
Unless Iraqi political and Iraqi-led security progress is made, there is no hope.
So far, this is not happening.
If anyone else is confused by this logic, I'd like to know.
How in the name of Creation does Bush expect us to believe him when he makes such stupid assumptions. Does he really believe that, undefeated in Iraq, insurgents will attack the USA?
Bush, in his own foggy mind, thinks that all of the terrorists are bottled up in the fighting in Iraq, as if he knows how many terrorists there are in the world.
Give me a break. Since the Iraq war started there have been numerous terrorist attacks and failed attempts in England and Germany and elsewhere. This fact eludes Bush, apparently.
Bush has stated that he doesn't want terrorists to "follow us home" from Iraq. Has anyone challenged this idiotic belief?
Actually, the White House Report out today cites progress on one objective.
Bush's legacy will be that he tried to secure America's thirst for oil by inserting a heavy, permanent American presence and influence in Iraq.
It will include the fact that we had no idea as to how to accomplish this, but we went ahead anyway.
History will conclude that the Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, et al, cabal has been the most destructive Administration - even worse than that other Republican, Nixon.
Blackwater is yet another reason why we will not prevail in Iraq.
Killing civilians doesn't make our job any easier and chances are we will pay a price in more killed and wounded US troops.
What lunatic would allow a bunch of armed American civilians to take the place of regular soldiers and police?
This is Bush's war so anything is possible, I guess.
A first-class ahole.
I don't know how the press corp can stand talking to him.
Republicans are a miserable lot. They don't know who to hate the most. Gays, liberals, minorities, all share the GOP's wrath.
