Heh.. as a "Christmas baby" (Dec 20, in my case), I loved this strip and could well relate to it. My mom would, now and then, make the offer of celebrating my birthday in June, but I don't think I ever took her up on it. Could be I did at one time or another, but by the time June rolled around (an eternity for a kid), I and my parents forgot all about it. Anyway, keep up the good work, Keef!
Yup, you're talking about Carnation Instant Breakfast (or so I assume). People still drink it, and not too long ago they ran a bunch of ads on a radio station here in LA (KLOS). It's still around. I used to drink it now and then, but mostly I eat cold cereal, often alternating days where I'll eat just a whole grain English muffin with peanut butter, or a banana. And orange juice. Don't forget the orange juice! :)
Cheerios, fine, but I can't think of any kids from my childhood who would willingly drink V8 juice. Hated the stuff myself, the few times I had it (I grew to like it a bit more as an adult. Can't say I ever found it "refreshing", however). On the other hand, I may have choked it down for that toy. That's just the kind of toy that would have appealed to me when I was a little kid, even if it does pre-date my childhood by a decade or so.
Well, of course we're sexy! What's with this "may be" stuff?!
Where's the love for Deadwood? One of my favorite openings. Great music and a poetry of images which convey the series perfectly.
And, another nomination for Doctor Who, particularly the new series, though I fondly remember getting hooked on the theme song when I watched the Tom Baker Doctor Who shows on PBS many years ago.
Wonderfalls.
Dead Like Me.
Outer Limits is classic. Along with Twilight Zone, it's ingrained in our minds. Well, for my generation, anyway.
Childhood favorite: The Electric Company. That always got my sugar-addled body jumping (even more).
...oh.. wait.. I'm allergic, too.
Seriously, though, these Tony Cartoons seem to be getting funnier with each new release. Keep 'em coming!
Funniest Tony Cartoon yet. Takes me back to December 2005, being a newborn rogue and encountering Hogger for the first time.
I do believe I'd like a poster of this particular strip.
Well done, Berkeley. One of the best Opus strips thus far.
Garfield!
(but, so is a boot to the head....)
Glad to see Buns and Chou back again! These seem to get better with each new release, and I really enjoyed this particular episode. Hope there are more to come.
Well, the price on the thing is helping keep my resistance to it firmly in place. :) Got to admit, however, it does appear to be quite the nifty gadget.
...takes me back to the "good ol' days" when I attended sci-fi conventions. Nice comic! Thanks Keef!
The service provider.
OK, my recollection could be wrong, but when the strip Opus first premiered, I thought that Breathed was dead set against the strip appearing on the web. You had to see it in the newspaper if you wanted to read it (fortunately, the LA Times carries it). Unless I missed it in the interview or in one of these letters, I don't see what suddenly motivated him to put the strip online. (Or, maybe it has been online elsewhere and I haven't known about it...?)
As for the strip itself, it's amusing, but it pales in comparison to Bloom County. Still, it's nice to have Opus (the character and the strip) around, and I'm glad more people are able to enjoy it, certainly.
Very nice. Perhaps a bit longer than necessary, but enjoyable, and I'd place it second, with the #2 winner moving up to take the first spot. The video in the current #1 spot should, perhaps, be presented for viewing to the poor pooch's vet.
Yeah, this one should have won first place, definitely. The current first-place winner is kind of sad, really. Feel sorry for that head-bobbing dog. Perhaps I shouldn't, but I do.
And to the criticism of the dog-and-baby in such close proximity: Nonsense. All depends on the dog. I had a Golden Retriever which was wonderful around very small children (and everyone else, for that matter). The most patient dog in the world. If anything, the dog had more to fear from the curious baby or toddler than vice-versa. They treated him like a big plush-toy. And it was fine by him. Never harmed any children whatsoever.
So, where is this Krishna temple?
When I was in high school here in the LA area, my comparative religions teacher took us on a field trip (one of many) to a Krishna temple and, yes, it was the best vegetarian food I ever had. In fact, it was likely what started my eventual conversion to vegetarianism.
But, this was a good 25 years ago (or so), and I have no idea where that temple was. Maybe there's more than one, I have no idea. But, if a fellow Angeleno can provide the info, I'd be most appreciative. I just may have to pay a visit again. Glad to hear you discovered it, Keef.
Nice to read the news. Well deserved.
Maybe this will put an end to the inane, immature "Rob Anderson" impersonators in Video Dog. Hey, I disagree with the guy now and then myself, but the asinine impersonators were growing increasingly annoying. I don't post (or even read) letters for the other sections too regularly, but I gather this has been a growing problem in general? Sounds like a long overdue decision. I also appreciate that you will still allow users to post anonymously.
