birth control

@Kozmic Blues

I think you got part of it there - why women use the doctor more than men. If you are female and use birth control that requires a prescription, the doctor gets at least one visit and some lab tests out of it. Required.

I had a hard time getting catastrophic insurance after a layoff. I hope I never have to be happy I have it. The difference between male and female rates is ~15/month but with a 5000 deductable - unless you are really sick - male or female - never going to be touched. Seems silly to have the 180/year difference for gender.

I'd love to see the insurance industry fixed - all of the niches but health care in this country is the greatest issue. Needs fixing pronto.

Whiners

As a healthy female, I subsidize obese, out of shape old males (and females.)

So - should I whine too?

Are you boyz whining about paying more right now to offset the costs of the unhealthy? Nope - just whining about women. Why do so many of you fellows hang out at Broadsheet with a bunch baby birthin hypochondriac wimins anyhow?

Ah, yes . . .

So Dick - the inactivity of pregnancy and nursing did I read you correctly to mean you think pregancy and nursing are states of inactivity? Really?

Women are healthier. Pregancy and childbearing are not sicknesses however most often require health care.

BTW complaining to doctors about the consequences of bad habits that you refuse to change is a pretty questionable definition of "taking better care of yourself".

Least we forget - you have a fat wife.

Get a divorce if it is effecting your life that much. But then, you also contend that men aren't that picky so what's the problem?

What is it with the trollboyz on Broadsheet?

some people!

Hey Jiggs,

I think there are a number of very angry women haters who love to come on here and spout their stuff - just to get women to talk to them - even if it is some anonymous poster who tells them they are trolls!

I have family and friends of each gender and I want them to have health care available to them and insurance at a reasonable rate. Some are old, some have serious health issues, some are young, some are healthy. It is an insurance pool - so that ALL of us have health insurance.

That should be a goal - not complaining that women have babies therefore they should pay more than the blokes who knocked them up.

Single payer (or state by state), accept all, non profit. That will be the only way to accomplish it. Healthy pregnant women and weezy heart attacks on feet men too.

self insured

Ghingis Can

Do you buy your own insurance?

If you have employer paid insurance then you are not buying your own, if the government pays for it - you are not buying your own. If you are under your parents - ditto.

Everyone (female AND male) need a better system of health care in this country.

poor little men

h0tr0d

Sounds like you have insurance through an employer? Do I have that correct?

If you do, you, as a male, will pay the same as a woman.

If you were buying it on your own, you would not pay the same.

A question for you: Why do self insured have a gender differential and employer based insurance not? Could it be the pool mentality? Could it be that employers do not want to be involved in any thing that seems discriminatory?

This whole subject was how private insurance companies, in response to the prospect of government change - are responding by offering gender neutrality.

And a LARGE number of posters came on here to complain about how women have babies and use more health care than they males did, about how young unmarried males pay more CAR insurance than similar circumstanced females, about how they don't want to subsidize women, yadda yadda yadda.

This subject had nothing to do with car insurance. Nor did it have to do with men (except for the fact men would benefit just as women would from a one payer system)

not feeling the luv

Hmmm - I just can't feel that sorry for Ms Prejean.

That she answered a question in a less than PC way - she gave her opinion and while it is 180 degrees from what mine would be - she is entitled to her opinion and if she was more intelligent - she probably would have phrased it in a noncommital kind of way that would allow her to slide.

My big problem with her answer is that it was so freaking stupid and inarticulate, further advancing the stereotype of dumb blond beauty contestant.

I find the whole "no nude photos" policy hypocritical because the whole contest is promoting worship of the superficial For them to get all huffy that their contestant is selling their looks to someone else is unrealistic - their contestant is already selling their looks for the pageant prize. It is what they do.

As far as outing her fake tatas - I have no problem with that. Any more than I have with steroid outing in athletes. Ms Prejean is being judged in part on how "pretty" the boobs are and if they are the result of implants creating a new look - shouldn't that be disclosed? Doping helps athlete in competition and we want natural ability - how come body mods to conform to a certain look in a beauty contest are not considered in the same way?

All this drama will help Ms Prejean's career - even Trump is trying to tell her that. After all, Vanessa Williams is still working. Of course, a little intelligence always helps.
