Lost?

Are there no radio stations listened to in that "community" of yours? How about local tv? No one talks to each other either, eh?

Look - there are LOTS of cultural habits that are not right and even not legal. And there are lots of ways for this info to get out.

The guy sold his daughter. This is the USA. It is against the law.

Through him in jail. Jump all over the 18 year old who somehow came into $16 grand. Put the girl in social services and let the rest of the family and neighbour pull their hair out. The next guy who wants to sell his daughter will either not do it - or get super sneaky about how he goes about it - either way - the knowledge that this is not ALLOWED will get out.

In my "community" there is/was lots of dog fighting. It is less now - and almost everyone involved knows it illegal. The arrests make the local news AND the community takes notice of how hard the punishment is.

the human urge to murder

Look - it is not all "yee haw throw 'em in jail"

I would LOVE it if people would hurry up and evolve to not look at their children as walking 7-11 produce. But I would stop the actions and hope the 're-education" occurs in parallel. I just wouldn't wait until your "community" awakens to the humanity that exists in all of us, including their girl children.

Murder is committed all over the world and in most places it is not only considered illegal but most murderers know it. It will never end as long as humans are living and breathing together. There will always be those among us who enjoy torturing animals and think their daughters are for the benefit of the family - or at least the father.

That doesn't mean we should take the position that since punishment won't stop it all, lets not be too harsh until humans evolve.

bookends

Who cares what you think

. . . tick tock tick tock . . .

I don't give a darn

Guess he'll go back to ranching.

It was all a show anyhow. The boy who took the prize from his brother to give the finger to his dad, who wanted nothing more than to get rid of taxes and punder the environment and instead handed over our WMD to Cheney to play with, now will finally leave us alone - to clean up the mess as much as possible.

Interesting change in currents!

Watching the previous Bush/Cheney supporters come out and say, sort of, that things were done wrong is interesting.

And yes - I don't believe any of the people who have defiled our name and have steered our country into financial wreckage will EVER pay the price.

Just goes to show - lie BIG and lie often, and break the bank while you do it. And you can retire to your gated communties later. Safe with the knowlege that we are too broke to effect justice.

Cheney out dicks Nixon

Cheney accomplished what he wanted - overthrow of Sadam and putting American military forces on the ground there. (PNAC)

By the way - does Cheney still hold his Haliburton stock?

Even Nixon had some good qualities. Cheney? I can not think of one thing he has done that bettered this country. What a waste of skin.

Luv the Europeans

Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Catherine Deneuve . . as far as I know none of them have had a boob job, lips injected, botoxed their face or had fillers injected, no lipo that I know of, and probably didn't think they need to get any of the other modifications that American women succumb to.

Maybe that is what Oprah is gushing about.

Ass Antlers

Ass antlers = tramp stamp = that decorative tattoo women of a certain class and age get low across the small of their backs to show the world just how sexy and original they are.

reality

I no more believe Posh Spice is natural than I do think she is a talented singer.

As far as Euro vs American. We do have more of a trend to expect women to conform to an image than do our friends across the pond. I hate seeing wonderful beautiful actresses mucking with themselves. It might be an indication of talent too - Demi Moore and Streep, compare and contrast!

As far a real vs fake - I have talked with a number of young men (mid 20's) who think it looks funny when breasts slope off when a woman lies on her back. They also think pubic hair is gross. I'd hate to be in that particular dating pool!

Oprah fussed over a natural looking body because she is keenly aware just how image conscious and the expectation to look a certain way has resulted in pressure on women - she's been fairly obsessed her entire carreer. Things have changed rapidly since mid 80s and have resulted in naturalness seeming weird looking - fake seems more real because that is the image we all are fed.

liberal military

As a former member of the military and a lifelong liberal lefty - I will tell you this:

If you are in the military, you answer a question differently than the party line at your own peril. The people asking you go away and forget about you - you however, have to live with the people who might not like your answer - and a lot of them have control over your life. Literally when it comes to Iraq and Afganistan.

Bush came in because he wanted to get rid of as many taxes as possible. When Cheney got on the ticket - he brought in all his PNAC buddies and all we needed was our pearl habor moment.

These two jokers who are leaving for a life of leisure will never pay for the damages wrought. I just hope Karma happens in my lifetime.
