No - I say shine a laser of light on these people the GOP try and foist on us.
They gave us George Bush, after all. Another unqualified "leader" with a large ego and small curiousity. He let Cheney get his nose in and Cheney brought the whole cabal with him. And we have an almost overwhelming clean up to do. There are a lot of people and corporations made richer by their actions, but not the rest of America.
And they wanted to do it again. For what ever reason - the GOP thought they could use someone like Palin to energize the what? Their unthinking base? Because I would wager that the true blue Republicans thought she was a poor choice, especially given that she stood a good chance of inheriting the presidential position. But I guess they thought she could be "managed"?
It was an insulting choice. She was and is entertaining, especially her assumption that all is hers for the taking. Perhaps that is part of being a politician in Alaska, but it is not to be tolerated in the USA. Really Should Not Be. She does not represent me as an American and certainly is not a role model of "woman". I was highly insulted when the GOP chose her thinking me, as a woman, would be more likely to vote for her. I am not that stupid. Did they really think I was? The assumption is reason enough to keep on them now.
So shine the light until all the silk undies and LV luggage surfaces. If the GOP cannot offer up qualified candidates who will do more than just posture and grift, then they deserve to have their knuckles rapped repetatively until they start thinking respect for the American electorate.
I swear - that whole family and their political shenanigans and griftiness . . . they NEED a reality show! Palin' with the Palins would make the Kardasians look high class. Sarah can run around in her towel, and Todd in his silk boxers.
Sheesh.
Well - that's what you get when you pick a barbie so the uneducated Joe Sixpacks will get . . . up . . . and vote. What did McCain do that day he chose her? Take one too many of the little blue pills?
Well, John, and the GOP, you got what you paid for. The embarrassment is ALL yours.
The sad thing about not knowing that Africa is a continent and not a country is that should that have got out - her core joe and jane sixpack would take it as another sign she is "just like us"
There is a level of ignorance in this country that is sadly amazing given our industrial position, but it is the pride in ignorance that is frightening.
Shouldn't anyone who wants to run for high office be as smart as a fifth grader? At the very least?
Shouldn't the electorate in a "democracy" know what they are getting?
As far a Palin getting scapegoated - it was kind of obvious that this would happen. She was the real outsider and not any more knowledgable about national level politicking than she is about world geography. My sympathy towards the dumping on her now is tempered by the fact she thought she was qualified in the first place.
A friend of mine once said to me that when Republicans in power trash the economy/environment/social structures enough, America votes in Democrats to clean up the mess. When things are going well again, Americans start bitching about social issues and vote in Republicans. Rince, Repeat.
I think there is truth in that - and he is a conservative christian republican. No big C or R.
I can only imagine who Bush will "pardon" in his final few hours. I am sure he will take a page from his dad and pardon people who haven't even been charged (yet) with anything.
Cheney. Scooter. Rummy. Himself?
This is one of those things where the real argument should be "Why does it matter if someone running for government is an atheist?"
It shouldn't matter whether the candidate is an atheist or a baptist or a budhist or a muslim or a mormon or a catholic.
Because if it matters whether a person believes in god or not, then it will matter which god they believe in. And I thought that was what the early Europeans were escaping when they emigrated here.
The other thing you need to consider is the age of the study participants.
All questioned were 60 and older.
In 1991, there were more men OVER 60 who had cheating in their past than women OVER 60 who had cheated.
Those men over 60 more than likely cheated with women younger and therefore not YET part of the study. Those women were probably accounted for in the 2006 study.
There is no notable gender solidarity in sexual and romantic matters shown by either men or women, and I daresay there probably will never be.
I daresay you are correct.
However, humans are capable of having integrity - and living by it. It is just when it comes to sexual matters, a large percentage of people (male and female) do not think integrity need apply. They console themselves with the phrase "all is fair in love and war" and ignore the fact they probably think gassing the children is "unfair" when it comes to war.
People are capable of lusting after someone other than their spouse and not acting upon it. They just choose not to.
Did I miss something in history class?
Did this country go through a phase when white women were lynched as a warning to other whites?
Look - both effigies were tacky at the very least, but the effigy of Obama worse given the not too distant history in this country.
@Asehpe
This: Maybe people just aren't valuing other people so much lately. What do you think?
Yes.
