All shields up!

@ Stackey Dacky: So yeah, what ya'll don't understand is that it doesn't matter what we wear. If you are a woman, between a certain age, and aren't deformed, (and even if you are) you have been on the receiving end of some sort of street harassment, nasty comments, up and to including sexual harrassment and physical intimidation. Look, I don't care if a guy looks at me. Looking is fine, but seriously, women have to put up with so much crap just walking around that it would be nice if they didn't have to worry that their granny panties were going to be on some pervy website. It may not seem like nothing to you, but it is to us.

This was from a while back.

There are 2 things I would add to this:

1) There are men who do these things to women for the secondary, if not primary reason of making that woman feel threatened or at least fractured. Perhaps it makes these men feel more powerful? Or perhaps it is like having a bad nicname is better than no nicname? Is it better to have some woman/girl react to the groping and/or vile comments with a look of loathing rather than not be noticed at all? These men do NOT care if it is bad behaviour because they are not looking at that woman/girl and seeing a human.

2) All you decent men out there who think women are stuck up bitches? If you approach us and we do not know you and we have been the recipiant of the loathsome behaviour in (1), we are going to look at you with suscipion. Blame your fellow menfolk and not the women, for creating a hostile enviroment. Women have no other choice but to keep shields up until you are better known.

As far as upshotting - what, are men no longer shining their shoes? Look the behaviour is boorish and poor even for the most immature 14 year old. If the men who are snapping the shots are 14 then the parents should be disciplining them, if they can't maybe juvie should be pulled in. Any male older than that? Charge them with Peeping Tom. 'Cause that is what they are.

looking at women?

@Brightstar - this is NOT about men looking at women.

This is about men shoving a camera under a skirt, taking pictures and/or posting them on-line so mental midgets can get some weird thrill out of looking at panty pictures taking against most women's will.

Please - DO continue looking at women. Women enjoy it and like to look at men. Attraction is one of the nice things about being alive.

Just don't stare and drool. Or grap. Or yell 'suck my dick bitch'. Or shove cameras up under our skirt. We really don't like that.

Why is the distiction so hard to get?

Prudish Americans?

I had a young friend once, he travelled to the topless beaches along the Mediteranean, hid in the bushes with a telephoto lens and took roll after roll, photos of young European women sunbathing topless. Were they bare breasted to show off for men? Doubt it. Those beaches are filled with breasts - from babies to their grannies and no one seems to give a damn (I've been there, done that)

My young "ugly american" friend could have gone over and talked to them, those young women he was photographing - all the same mid 20's age, but no, he hid in the bushes.

If he had talked to them, no one would have reacted angrily. He might even have had fun.

He got caught and then chased off the beach by several rather angry Europeans who made mention of how immature Americans are.

He thinks of it as one of his fun adventures, I cringe with embarrassment as an American.

It is not prudish to expect people to keep their cameras out from between my legs if I wear a skirt or dress and happen to be in a public place.

What do you think it is? This need to invade and the justification for the peeping action? Seems a rather juvenile perversion to me.

I see Paris. I see France. I see JaneDoes underpants!

Freakin' pervs. Grow up.

Upskirting - the Tangibles

One day I was walking down the street. Mid afternoon. Just to make sure people know I wasn't 'asking for it' by dressing provocatively, or was taunting men because I looked a certain way: I wear loose clothes, I was wearing a tshirt. I was wearing a bra. I don't have big ole boobies.

Someone decided to run up, grab one of my breasts, twist it, then run off as fast as he could.

I supposed I should have just enjoyed the attention from an "admiring" man?

There was NOTHING provocative or inviting about me. I supposed I was "asking for it" by walking down the street?

The man that did that is just the kind of man who would shove a camera up between a womans legs to get a panty shot.

You people who are defending this behaviour are part of the problem.

You should keep in mind that most women have some story to tell about men crossing boundaries and it being sexually based. You should really think about that when you look at the women and girls in your family who you are protective about. They will be lucky indeed if they get through life without some asshole violating them in some way.

Men? Discipline your own.
