No name given has it right
[Read the article: The antiwar GIs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The problem is this: nobody knows what the hell to do.
Republicans want to "stay the course" because doing anything else is to admit defeat, and the Bush administration is predicated on the air of infallibility. That is all they have going for them.
Many Democratic rank and file were against the war from the start, even as their representatives voted for it. Now other than "we told you so" (which carries no weight as their elected officials all supported the war) they don't have a good solution short of building a time machine. You can't turn back the clock and pulling out now is not the same as never having entered in the first place.
To invade a country, destroy its infrastructure, make it unsafe for all citizens in the name of misplaced revenge and hollow pre-emption then pull out and leave it to burn is morally reprehensible. I've been against the war since I first heard the idea innocently floated but at some point the US government does speak for the people and our mess is a shared responsibility. This finger pointing now accomplishes nothing. As a country we are where we are, and whether or not Joe Democrat on Cedar Ave was against the war or not is totally irrelevant.
As a nation this is our shared mess, like it or not.
Pull out and leave Iraq in ruins? To me it is not acceptable to decimate an entire country with "oops, our mistake." We need a solution that works for us and for Iraqis. When we decided to "liberate" them we took on that responsibility.
I am not an Iraq expert but increasing troop levels in Iraq sounds reasonable. With better security Iraqis will be safer and our troops may be as well, at least eventually. Put MORE money into nation building. Bush said he wasn't into nation building but again that became our responsibility. Security, power, water, etc. If we don't have the money for that we should cut from someplace else, even if that is unpleasant. If we have to raise taxes raise taxes.
If it becomes painful enough maybe people will even learn this time.

Pats were the better team...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...with the exception of about 5 crazy plays.
Given the number of times wacky tips or off-the-hands miscues ended up in Colt defender arms the final score was a lot closer than it had any right to be.
I don't think I've ever seen a game where every tip or drop ended up shooting directly to a defensive player.

So serious...
[Read the article: Peace out, my Wigga]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow...
How many readers even know what it means to pour one?
This is just silly fun. Imagining these dudes as 4 K-Feds. Totally harmless. Obviously these guys are as far away from a hip-hop group as you can possibly get. Humor ensues.
Of course one had to know that 90% of people either wouldn't get it or be horribly offended.
I didn't think it was the funniest thing in the world (although the Strawberry Milk bit was great) but I imagine the people deeply offended by this are people who are deeply offended 70 times a day on average.
The way some rappers and hip-hop guys speak - it's a bit ridonkulous yo. And it has very little to do with black dialects or anything like that, it's just a purposeful affectation of the hip-hop community. That entire speaking pattern is a hip-hop invention and really no different from how death metal bands use 50 cent words they find in medical dictionaries. Is poking fun at them also racist? (You know, anti-Scandanavian or something...)
Sometimes a joke is just a joke. There are probably better things in life to be vitriolic about than Wiggles-based satire.

Giving as good as you get...
[Read the article: Size matters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Women of size are inherently sexy to the majority of men in the world. They are the embodiment of fertility, motherhood, and comfort. Their sturdiness implies the ability to give as good as they get sexually. That scares a lot of men."
Isn't it redheads who are supposed to give as good as they get? And girls with tats and piercings? I guess I need to update my stereotypes.
So who is better in bed, a fiery redhead or a fertile woman of size? Discuss!

A service to gays?

Running up the score...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The T-Mac game came to my mind immediately as well. I have never understood the running up the score complaints.
The Yankees scored 13 runs in an inning against the D-Rays last year. Would it be dishonorable (or whatever...) for the D-Rays to steal against the Yanks up 12-0 in the ninth? I'm thinking no.
How about Schilling complaining when a guy broke up his no-hitter with a bunt. At the time he was up 2-0 I believe. That guy gets on base, the next guy hits a home run and the game is tied! But Schilling was all angry about how the game "should be played the right way" and all that jazz.
In my mind playing the right way is doing your best to win. If the losing team thinks they have no chance they should just forfeit. If they are still on the court/field and still trying to win then I'm trying to win as well.
This isn't a Division 1 team playing a Division 4 team and being up 80-9 in a matchup they would win 999 out of 1000 times. These are two professional teams, on another day the Knicks (yes, even the Knicks) could be up by that much. Stranger things have happened than a comeback in a basketball game.
What is really sad here is that the Knicks have a huge payroll and an awful team. If I were Thomas instead of being upset at the other team for showing me up I would be mad at my team for playing so poorly on a consistent basis. How is it George Karl's fault that the Kicks suck exactly?
