Mad Dogs
[Read the article: The NYT's Michael Cooper demonstrates what real reporting is]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I will admit that some trees must die before I can truly digest what is here, and since my Everlasting Case of Paper +1 has somehow reverted into a cat cradle, I am off to the store. If you find anything interesting post it here and I will do the same.

Rockefeller's letter to McConnell about whether the PAA was negotiated in good faith.
Some of this information was revealed in the media, but it is nice to have more details straight from Rockefeller.
Page 34-35
Sheldon Whitehouse's letter to McConnell on the same subject but with different details.
Page 39-41
McConnell's letter to Carl Levin detailing his objections to Rockefeller-Levin (S.2011)
Page 42-50
Letter from Alexander Joel, the Civil Liberties Protection Officer for ODNI, to Reyes and Hoekstra.
A bunch of very interesting information on minimization and surveillance of US persons, and other cool stuff for FISA geeks.
Page 70-72
Letter from Bud Cramer and Jane Harman to McConnell
Simply because of the use of the term "Blue Dogs" in a government correspondence.
Page 90-91
Letter from Ronald Burgess to Reyes about FISA and the kidnapped US soldiers in Iraq.

Page 21-23
Letter from Conyers, Nadler and Scott to McConnell asking questions about McConnell's interview in the El Paso Times related to selective declassification, contradictions between Justice Department positions and other goodies. McConnell's reply does not seem to be in this batch of docs.
Page 24
Reyes letter to McConnell asking about McConnell's assertion that the PAA "...facilitated the detection of the German Terrorist plot." McConnell's reply does not seem to be in this batch of docs.
Page 54-119
This appears to be the administration's take on what FISA should be. This section needs a lot of work to cross reference with past, current and future legislation, but many details about what the administration wants to do and has done can be inferred from this text.

I want a Red Hook so bad, but I am facing the hard choice of orange Gatorade and Jim Beam or Earl Grey and as I type those words I am leaning towards tea.

[Read the article: The NYT's Michael Cooper demonstrates what real reporting is]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I agree that the administration is going to take the state secrets route about the identity of the companies lobbying for amnesty. From the reply that Glenn received from Feinstein's office, it looks like congress is going to take that route also. Notice the "including Verizon and AT&T" language.
I love the logic here. We can't tell you the names of the companies lobbying for amnesty for their past law breaking, because then you will know what companies have broken the law. It makes my head hurt.
I also agree with your SWAG about ISPs and email providers. I think the language of 105B was specifically written to include them. Good catch on page 66.
karrsic,
My high-level take is that none of this material is even remotely classified and should have been released a long time ago. That it took a judge's ruling to force release is another testament to the Bush administration's disdain for oversight and obsession with secrecy. I would characterize it as childish, but the administration is a serious as a heart attack.
Chris Michie,
Unless Greenwald can give a convincing explanation for his beliefs and actions he must be numbered among the Quislings who have become accomplices after the fact to the greatest crime in American history (with the possible exception of Nagasaki and Hiroshima).
You are not here to encourage people to explore the events of 9/11, you are here to alienate anyone who may be interested. Your message is clear, stay away or you will be attacked and marginalized, logic be damned.
I don't know if you believe what you say or if you are just pulling a L.W. Pauliac, in the end it doesn't matter, the results are they same.

Thank you for leading me to the FISA monograph.
WT,
Thank you for leading me to the The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.
They both are going to require patient reflection and study.

I'm not sure if you are ever going to top your Left Behind at ground zero post, that was special. But this is pretty good too.

[Read the article: National Review reporter caught fabricating; where is the "liberal media"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't know many of the details of the Beauchamp episode because, true or false, I didn't feel the anecdotes added anything to my knowledge base.
I will say that using the spouse/lover of a journalist at your publication as an anonymous source is an obvious conflict of interest and shows a serious lack of journalistic ethics. That Foer saw this relationship as a credibility booster in his eyes was a serious mistake and reflects poorly on his ability to be a credible editor.
