There is a pattern here and a technique that marks this as a deliberate ploy by the Clinton campaign that can only be cured by Anonymous coming forward.
One point has no dominsion. Two pints mark a straight line. This straight line as an arrow at the end pointing to the Clinton campaign.
In another thread, Anonymous had suggested that the Republicans would bury Obamka because of his high school chum Keith but refused to give any details. Today the NY Times did an article about Obama's early years in which "Keith" was interviewed and it totally destroyed the attempt by the Clinton opertatives to paint Obama as a closet drug pusher. Keith staunchly defended and down-played his relationship with Obama.
Remember, the New Hampshire chief of Hillary's campaign "resigned" after he had suggested that whether Obama dealt drugs was an unanswered question. Yet, a few days later on Hardball, Mark Penn managed to mention Obama and cocaine three or four times in a single two or three minute session.
This is classic dirty politics. The highest form might be something like: "I refuse to make political capital about the allegations my opponent deflowers sheep by moonlight. His relationship to sheep is not an issue in this campaign." (Loosely drawn from the "The Best Man," by Gore Vidal circa 1960.)
Now we have Anonymous saying, the Republicans might make an issue of Obama's mother Communist background without ever saying very much about that background except we really don't know.
The tactic is the same as the cocaine imbroglio.
A few years ago, a Vassar Professor, by exmaning the writings of several journalists tagged Joe Klein as the author of "Primary Colors" a roman-a-clef about the Clinton 1992 Presidential campaign. Joe Klein savagely attacked him only to admit a few months later that he was in fact "Anonymous."
I don't have a suspicion, but a supposition that somebody closely related to the Clinton campaign is using Salon to spread dirt on Obama, this time trying to red-bait his mother.
As long as the filthiest tripe is being promulgated by "Anonymous" we can never be sure. Again, maybe Salon should assign a number to anonymous posters so we can track their lies even as they conceal their identity.
Conflict of interest. I don't know Mark Penn. I do not recall evr having met him though it's possible. In 1895, I represented then Assemblyman and now Congressman Jerry Nadler who was running against David Dinkins for Manhattan Borough President. A wealthy real estate tycoon put up the money to manufacture a candidacy by a another Jewish candidate,Sy Friedman, to split the Jewish vote.
"Penn & Schoen" were hired to collect signatures. They filed 20,000 signatures and only 5,000 were required. I was hired by Jerry to challenge the petition, a seemingly hopeless task. Friedman was knocked-off the ballot. We discovered upwards of 8,000 forged signatures as a part of our challenge and 12 individual were indicted for forgery and related crimes.
Mark Penn and Doug Schoen were not among them. They had hired a poor schlump from Texas with little NY experience to run the operation and set-up a system that intentionally or not, fostered forgery by skirting the law on witness compensation. The Texas schlump took the fall. See http://www.johnklotz.com/nadler.htm
This is no accusation against Penn, but you might understand why I am a bit disdainful and why I reach my supposition that Anonymous is in fact operating for the Clinton campaign.
That the Salon comment blog is being inundated by crazies is obvious. The frantic tenor of the anti-Obama attacks seems to be escalating.
On reflection, maybe its not just supporters of HRC. Most commentators now agree that Obama is the candidate the Republicans fear the most because he lacks HRC's negatives.
What we may be witnessing is two pronged attack on Obama. One is HRC supporters scared stiff he might win and the other is reactionaries scared stiff he might win.
I'm not saying they are colluding, it just that the Repubs and HRCers have one thing in common: fear of Obama.
The danger, and a concern, is that rational bloggers not be http://turned-off by the vitriol. But the sheer volume of vitriol directed at Obama today is truly amazing. He must be doing something right.
35 minutes to closing time.
