"Corporate Marauder Seeks Live-In Snacking Buddy"?
[Read the article: I'm 23 but I don't have everything I want yet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]LW states she is a driven, successful corporate marauder who hasn't had time (or interest?) in dating. Tends to start a relationship by "dating" 3-4 times per week, but no apparent interest in checking out the chemistry. States she is looking for "someone to come home to."
My conclusion is that she might consider finding a way to access her warmer, softer, more compassionate side. The void she is perceiving might just be the incompleteness of her own psyche.

the common thread in Rainbow Farm, Waco, Ruby Ridge and even Iraq...
[Read the article: Reefer madness]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]is a government which behaves in an abusive, conflagratory, violent manner. Instead of the wise father we have the alcoholic thug as our collective elective parent. And now we have MasterBlaster as president.

it was controlled demolition
[Read the article: The 9/11 deniers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]clearly airplanes crashed into the buildings, but it was controlled demolition that brought them down. anyone who is at all familiar with that demolition technique would recognize this.

slade gorton
[Read the article: The 9/11 deniers]

he has been around as a soulless republican hack for a long time.

The definition of cool
[Read the article: Cool Jews]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Personally, I would describe as "clowns" many of the men the author lists as "cool," starting with Lenard Cohen for his depressing take on relationships.

from a woman's point of view...
[Read the article: A grad student in China has taken possession of my soul]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]that the LW is married to a handicapped woman will in itself make him more attractive to some women. it may be the ONLY thing the woman notices about him, predisposing her to smile at him.
don't press your luck, LW.

If "everyone's mom is crazy"...
[Read the article: My mother is crazy and terrifying]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]then why aren't they all locked up?
this is to the letter writer "CJ", yet another person who cannot comprehend that everyone did not grow up in the Cleaver family ("Leave it to Beaver").
CJ I gather that you have no one in your life exhibiting bipolar behavior, or schizophrenic behavior, or whatever. Or at least you have not gotten to know them well enough to see the patterns. Some people are born with these sick individuals as parents. They do not want your condescending patronizing advice. Do not be surprised if they just stare at you and turn away.
Tell you what, CJ. you should get to know a bipolar individual. Experience what happens when you look to them for warmth, responsibility, etc. See how long you can last.

This husband is obviously abusive
[Read the article: I suspect my wife's "miscarriage" was not spontaneous]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i know people like the LW. He is abusive to his wife, evident by his misplaced persecution of her to vent his anger about things (the pregnancy) not going his way. Then he shops HIS SIDE of the story around to a circle of acquaintances, his friends, and the bus driver to elicit confirmation that HE is the sane one.
Notice the cowering picture we get of the "conniving" wife, so hapless that she resorts to a secret abortion. This type of man seeks out a woman he identifies as having severe doubts about her own ability to make decisions (she is publically identified as "mentally ill," afer all) in order to totally dominate her every move. his paranoid fear that she has intentially or unintentially thwarted him is driving him bananas.

god save the children
[Read the article: I suspect my wife's "miscarriage" was not spontaneous]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]why does this control freak of a husband want children?
answer: easy to dominate them and control every aspect of their little lives...(or so he thinks)....
fast forward to damaged lives and possibly incest. possibly patricide.......

Cary, please take a zen retreat or something
[Read the article: My boyfriend's ex puts me down in public]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]all right, cary's response is gawd-awful.
first off, he is assuming quite alot about the "other woman" based on, what, the LW's discomfort with her?
He even thinks he knows what the "other woman" is thinking, for pete sake.
also, for all we know it was the "other woman" who ended the relationship with the boyfriend. It is not uncommon for guys to deny that they were dumped. Why does Cary assume that every ex-girlfriend is a Woman Scorned?
To make matters more absurd, he then offers terrible, jr. high advice: he advises her to strike back!
For the "other woman" to comment on differences in personal literary taste between herself and the LW hardly seems like a "slashing attack."
Plus, the LW has indicated she does not even share the details of her educational background with her "friends." This does not sound like a woman who can pull off a "snappy come-back." No, her counterattack come off awkward and unsociable.
It sounds to me like a 2 hour car ride would offer an opportunity for the LW, with the support of her boyfriend, to discuss the ill-will between them, since as she says they are all in the same "circle" and will have to continue to deal with each other. (The LW is not willing to forgo the "other woman's" parties.) After having discussed the matter, the LW confront the "other woman" in public the next time she felt "putdown." If the "other woman" then responds in a derogatory manner, the question becomes, "why would the LW accept an invitation to go to the party of such an unsociable person?"

she ID'ed her via Google??
[Read the article: What should I say to my husband?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i also wondered how the LW could use a photo, year-old memories, and a name to google someone.
so she found someone on the web with the same name, so what?

love love love this response from cary
[Read the article: I'm in love with a man of inaction!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]this is what sets cary tennis apart from ann landers.
let's hope that this LW sends the same letter to Ann and various other columnists (and they reply in print).

Long glances
[Read the article: I like a certain gentleman at work, but is he gay?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]perhaps he's just a rude jerk toying with the LW.
