O C C U P A T I O N

Is there a filter at Salon that keeps the word "occupation" out of most of your material on the little "Peace and Justice in Palestine" issue?

Are you part of the vast media distraction campaign that

retains Palestine as a pet issue without ever actually showing you are willing to discuss the actual issue here?

Folks, the issue here is OCCUPATION- . It is still quite illegal, still injust and still immoral. Israel has been doing it since 1967 under famous support from Uncle Sam and will continue to do so untill which time the world becomes informed (with consent) from its Websites and Newsorgans.

Please Salon, every time you post an article on Palestine without mentioning Occupation you are reinforcing the Israeli position that all of these other issues are salient.

As Pres. Bush himself said yesterday, in an out-of-character prescience, rare to him: The demographics are soon to take over, leaving the Israelis no choicce but to attempt to clear up their pesky Palestine problem before the Jewish state loses its Jewishness. As if losing a Jewish charcter were the big problem here.

Terror is not the big problem here, losing a state Jewishness is not the problem here, getting recognized as a normal member of the family of nations is not the problem either. The problem, Salon, is OCCUPATION.

End it, and the work can begin- Peace and Justice; Normal Statehood and recognition-both for Palestine and for the Israelis; Water crisis for Jordan and the other "left behind" in Israel's relentless march tward domination of the region;Security for ALL of the peoples; Peace in Lebanon etc etc etc

Please start talking straight with your readers- this is the core issue of so many of our world's problems.

Start refering to occupation.

I work with the most annoying man alive

Dear Annoyed,

High 5's, Gives everyone annoying nicknames, speaks with a fake accent, makes unfunny jokes and doesn't seem to command much language.

Sound like our "Current Resident of the Oval Office" to me.

Does your co worker perform his job? How well?

If he is anywhere near competent, he is far ahead of a certain Chief Executive we all know WHO HAS THE NUCLEAR WEAPONS KEYS IN HIS CARRY ON LUGGAGE:

We elected this fellow twice to do our bidding.

Maybe your office is in a better position to quibble and moan . Perhaps your co-workers are getting a better talent and a better representation than the one we all share, alluded to above.

What do we do?

We tolerate everything except the intolerant, as Brecht and Voltaire and Jesus and Buddha all said one way or the other. Are you so annoyed that you cannot recognize the human in this annoyer? Try TALKING to him. Maybe he is even more curious and interested than the fellow I am thinking of. At least he is less dangerous- not to mention less sanctioned into office by the prevailing cultural form-setting. The other guy, after all was confirmed into his position by our supreme court.

Good luck. I think we all share this type of problem.

We wanted our special status- now we have it- forever!

Our City on the Hill.

Our unique measuring systems.

Our propensity for waste and megaconsumption.

Our myopia and sense of self-righteous engagement.

That wierd way we write the date: Month first, then day, then year. Do the readers know how stubbornly anti-global, anti inclusive this little quirk is- not just to door security workers checking ID's at nightclubs?

The fact that neighborhood community covenants actually forbid the use of clotheslines- even in the Arizona heat!

Older persons, already denied so much in the entertainment-crazed youth culture of the American Way, do not ride bicycles to shop or run errands as they do from China to Denmark to Angola to New Zealand.

Our non-insured 45%

The disgrace of our education system.

Our uniquely American disdain for foreign language and global perspective.

Our hatred of Winter Olympic and world football sport.

Our gigantic refrigerators and SUVs .

AMTRAK instead of actual Rail conveyance for the masses.

Oh, there's much more, but these are some of the great annoyances that the REST OF THE WORLD has been keeping more-or-less politely silent about these past, oh, 10 or so generations.

They were driven to silent acquiescence because of 1945 and Elvis and The Movies (The Marshall plan is faintly familiar to them).

Did all that cultural/political contribution of ours buy us a lifetime pass as Sherriff and Head Honcho in perpituity?

Untill lately, so it seemed.

But it is rather Mother Nature and that famous clash she has with our American Way Of Life that sounds the most disturbing to those world citizens who are actually paying attention.

The Great Decline is surely welcome.

It is unfortunate that the debis from that collapse will rain down on the innocent as well as the Corporate and Politicaldynamic sinners and betrayers of our world commitment promise.

That House on the Hill has been "scraped off" to make way for Haliburton's and Apple's American Idol entry.
