I don't own a Prius yet I still found the article petty and annoying. I know 2 Prius drivers-- one is a retired 75-year old, the other is the head of a non-profit. They love their cars but are far from arrogant about driving them. It's not the Prius that causes arrogance, some people are just arrogant about their choices. Arrogance for whatever reason is irritating.
The fact that the author went on for more than one line about not being able to afford a Prius made me think that she probably covets them and is resentful that she can't afford one. Overall I find the Prius-bashing trend silly-- something that Republicans started and now a lot of liberals are jumping on the bandwagon. There really is no point to bashing people who are trying to make a conscientious decision to decrease their gas usage.
The fact that the Prius has done so well, if nothing else, is getting the attention of car manufacturers, they now know that people want a car that uses less gas. That is undeniably a good thing.
Huckabee is a right-winger in a sweet old, grandfatherly suit. He doesn't come off as an insane person, he smiles rather kindly from his eyes, and frankly he's pretty likable. Even his harsh stances on gay relationships and abortion come off with a certain lightness, and the empathetic way he talks about immigrants is a nice break from the usual xenophobic ranting of the GOP. Huckabee seems well positioned to be a dark horse contender.
Which is exactly why Huckabee gives me nightmares. He's a theocrat, plain and simple. I'm not sure I trust my fellow Americans enough not to elect a charming Southern Baptist preacher who thinks that America would be better off as a theocracy.
I don't want another right-wing Christian who is daydreaming about how great the end of the world will be, when Jesus returns, and is looking forward to the rapture.
A line in the letter implies that she is a teenager, additionally it reads like a teenager wrote it, especially the like-I-have-a-major-crush-on-this-supercute-guy tone. (If the LW were a guy they likely would have written "I know that he's gay too" or something similar.)
While the difference between 28 and 38 OR 38 and 48 is of little consequence, the difference between an 18 year old and a 28 year old is HUGE. If there isn't much of a difference then he's not terribly evolved. Odds are he sees her as too young because she is too young for him.
So, if the LW is 18 or so and the band member is 28 she should keep her schoolgirl crush to herself, it's just going to make things awkward and weird for the two of them. She should just enjoy the beautiful music they make together-- in the real sense, not in the figurative sense.
Maybe Glenn Beck can be his running mate!
Then they both can get the f*ck of off MS tv. Either that or they can go where they both belong-- to FauxNews.
Huckabee is easily the biggest threat the Dems could face in 2008-- either as the nominee or the VP. Huckabee is a bible-thumping right-wing zealot in a sweet, grandfatherly suit. Imagine Rudy without the visible fangs.
