Your essay had me hooked from the first line. Great writing.
I've missed your opinions. Glad to have you back.
Natalie Goldberg in her books also tells writers that is Ok to write the worst shit in America as a way to write without censoring, to just write and write freely.
I once felt remorseful for the way I treated someone and several years later apologized. They accepted my apology and showed respect for my humility. The situation still makes me smile knowing that I righted a wrong. Then 30 years after I had wronged someone, one of those spectacularly foolish college pranks that I couldn't forget, I sent a written apology after hunting down an address through the alumni office. She responded by saying she didn't know who I was or what it was I had done. My conscience is clear now even as I laugh at how she refuses to remember (it was something pretty big). So my advice would be the same, apologize, make the effort so that you can move on.
We can always count on Debra to stir the pot. Interesting article. To those who wonder why Salon keeps letting her write her column? Not only do you all read it, you react to it. In droves!!!
