  • At least something good has come of the Administration

[Read the article: Don Imus is vulgar. So what?]

Prose that Thoreau, and perhaps Whitman, even some of them old dead Greeks would have applauded with a round of "Right On, Euripides!", but since they're not here, I will.

For such righteous indignance, such florid vituperation a Prize should be established. I'm tired, or I'd write something witty, but that would be coals to NewCastle anyhow.

Dammit, I know Nixon is laughing at us from beyond his grave.

and then you think of the lasting damage the Current Occupant has done to this country, a man who lends new richness to the word "malfeasance" and who is deaf on top of it and relaxed and pleasant in the face of fresh revelations, you see what a crazy country this is, but then we knew that a long time ago.

The French have a new president, the British will soon have a new P.M., and we envy them as we endure the endless wait for this small dim man to go back to Texas and resume his life.

  • Anyone else notice

  • Teams that scored second

    The momentum thingy.

Unfortunately, this game sucked and showed the league's lack of talent. I couldn't watch after 20 minutes, it was that bad.

Not all MLS games are like that, apparently just the ones with something on the line. Which makes it worse. Doesn't have to be the Cosmos, but hey, this league is like 12 years old already.

C'mon, guys, start ponying up for foreign talent, and the local boys will get better playing with better. It really works that way.

Oh, and fwiw, American announcers suck universally. I dread the World Cup because of these clowns. Maybe I'll be able to get a Brit or South African feed next time. Can ABC really not do any better?

  • Chimps and first impressions

[Read the article: The chimp who thought he was a boy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A friend of mine who cared for the great apes at the OU primate studies lab recounted an incident when project honchos were taking state legislators on a funding tour of the facility.

The chimps instinctively and relentlessly hurled poo and insults at the politicians. It was not a successful funding tour.

you're saying Farhad is also a garden-variety douche.

Oh, wait. He didn't buy GTA_IV for raping/killing the Centerfold. Just the amazing architectural ambience.

who gets the combo-shot that includes measles, go from a normal, attentive child to a dead shell the same day.

You think it's a myth, just go ahead and play russian roulette with your own infant.

  • I know a great prose line when I see one

    And

"Here we are in a green paradise, stomachs churning, eyeballs flickering, sensing dark conspiracies, feeling alienated from the people around us who feel similarly alienated from us."

is a great line. Says alot about the 'Merican condition, which G.K. strives to encapturate.

  • Turkish comeback & a Fresh pair of eyes

[Read the article: Turkey tops the Celtics' comeback]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'd like Turkey alot better as an underdog if they didn't play so dirty. Their coach looks like an alley brawler.

As for King's nonchalance about the game, wait a few years until your own kids are old enough to play, and let them sign up.

Go to their games and appreciate the fun, hilarity, and sprinkling of athleticism of the little kids. If you can't wait that long, go to a friend's kids' games.

It takes experiencing a game as a kid to get it into your blood.

When you get into soccer that way, it will bite you hard and not let go.

  • Great tournament, gritty win

    [Read the article: España 2008]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't think anyone can blame Spain for going a tad conservative in the 2nd half, considering they'd been called losers and underachievers for 44 years. They're the Brazil of Europe, except they have awesome defenders also. Maestros Xabi and Fabergas on the same field? wow. Wait til 2010.

And for playing to win, their left back was still going forward on attack in the 88th minute. Pretty nervy.

The Germans are such cynical whiners and divers themselves, it's always a pleasure to see them lose.

Only the Italians stunk the place up more. Double props to Spain for eliminating both those soulless giants.

  • Holly's talent is wasted

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

on this rubbish( and she has to know it). Maybe she's hoping the writers will miraculously fall into a 2nd year creative groove...but me doubt it. And to be fair, I only caught 1 or 2 episodes, but they sucked. Okay, the dream sequence with the con in McAlester had some real promise...

For one thing, she's too cute by half. It just don't work that way in Oklahoma or anywhere, but Hollywood.

Her trackrecord says she's been rode hard, whupped, ate by a wolf and shit off a cliff, and THEN put up wet.

She ought to at least have 1 or 2 wrinkles and some honest-to-god pain. Gimme a frikkin break, Holly, and show your mileage.

You're not supposed to be a cartoon. Are you?

Also, is there supposed to be some sort of Okie mystique where all the characters are named after towns? Crap on a stunted cactus, it's irredeemable.

  • Is this a poll? Joe stay

    [Read the article: Searching 101]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Farhad, stay gone, bitch.

Joe's cool. The first Mac user/devotee I can recall reading who doesn't sound like a Jobs' fanBoy Wonder.

  • No, he wasn't instrumental

[Read the article: The man who shook the Kremlin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

in bringing the Soviet Union to its knees any more than any other of its great artists, even if he was Tolstoy returned.

The Soviet Union brought itself to its own knees, ironically fulfilling the communist doctrine of historic inevitability, then slowly toppled.

Solzhenitsyn merely, fearlessly reported the truth about the lie, which is, perhaps, a better thing than being an instrument.
