Original article: Would you marry Don Draper?

The fantasy that is Don Draper.

2 observations;

Mad Men is a show about white people, for white people. It also plays to women's SATC fantasies now that SATC isn't on TV... enjoy but please don't pretend it has any meaning.

Secondly, you were the same person giving Ghostface Killa hell for expressing similar sentiments in his interview... yet you reproduce those same sentiments here.

I guess it's acceptable only when enlightened feminists come to that realization.

The business will right size itself through brutal job cuts. It will be tougher - like it was in the past; to get into cutting edge finance.

To further explain: in a right sized market - where the glut of bankers has been weeded out, compensation should return to equilibrium i.e. pre-glut levels, which is much higher than the $500K being proposed by President Obama.

Apparently your grasp of schumpeterian economics and supply and demand is a little lacking.

Stick to your day job.

$500,000 is not much money,

For someone who has generated millions of dollars of profit and value for investors and pensions over the years.

But some of you do not understand that.

Institute the cap - this is what will happen:

First of all Goldman Sachs will give back the Gov't investment and remain best in class - taking all the business and rainmakers from the banks that still have to deal with the cap and the mediocre talent it engenders.

Hedge Funds and Private Equity Firms - while going through a brutal rationalization phase - will move offshore and out of the scrutiny of a bunch of politicians who have never made money a day in their lives.

The business will right size itself through brutal job cuts. It will be tougher - like it was in the past; to get into cutting edge finance.

The best guys will get paid - much more than the $500K everyone is whining about. Working for a bank that is Gov't owned will be anathema and the Gov't and the tax payer will suffer those consequences.

You want top notch financial advice G-Man, you gotta pay for it. Oh and btw, our best guys cost a lot more than the pansies you have working for you.

It will be a return to the world of high finance in the 60s and 70s - people will still make obscene amounts of money. The cream will rise to the top and the rest of you will have no idea.

The eggheads have the ball now, so they can govern with their Ward 3 rules, but don't forget - The Street always comes back.

@Kryptogal

Kryptogal,

You sound like a nice but very deluded person.

I'm sorry. You live in an alternative universe.

In a world where as you have said in the past "I have gotten every man I ever wanted".

Where you and all the smart, socially aware yet HOT, liberal chicks get to pick the hot, yet sensitive, well hung yet gentle emo boys who want to be kindergarten teachers and stay at home dads.

The only reason why the world looks this way to you is because you are a "beautiful woman". If you were unattractive or a man, you would see things a lot differently.

Unfortunately your privilege (if I can co-opt a sociological term) does not allow you to understand that other people - both men and women literally have to do battle to get the spoils - attractive partners, a better style of living, sometimes even common respect and courtesy.

Oh well. The clueless will always be with us. It is a part of the human condition.

@ Professor Mac

Ah yes, the trusty Manhattan was for (WHITE) artists, bohemians, trannies, gay divas and Andy Warhol argument. The old bring back the bad old days of crime because I could affort a loft in Soho for $500 a month.

You’ll forgive me if I tell you to go back to Oakland and fuck yourself. The last 15 years in NYC have resulted in massive creation of wealth and safety; for the city, professionals, even some of you creative types.

Who would buy your fancy picture of someone self-fellating that you call post modernist art if bankers and their vapid girlfriends did not exist. Let’s not even talk about the charities that have been helped over the years or the families that have made their way in a much safer city.

Artists and Bohemians did not build this town. This town has always been about and been run by Money. Sometimes it is old money, other times it is new money. But money makes New York go round and money is why truck loads of hungry, young and ambititious people and immigrants come to this town every year. They are here to succeed ~ and for some of them that might involve being “creative”, but please – do not get it twisted.

Cash rules in NYC my friend.

Oh Brother

This is a hard lesson to learn man.

She sounds like she cares about social status and income. It also sounds like she cares about showing you off to her friends and family. At this stage in your life/career, you're full of earning potential but nothing else bro, and the sad truth is that it is not enough for her.

I would advise you to take a step back. Focus on your career and yourself. 27 - for a guy like you, making his way in the world, trying to be a success of some kind, is too early to be thinking about marriage.

The sad truth is, if you are focused on building yourself up - you will most likely have to miss the first marriage wave (25 ~ 30) and be getting married in your early to mid 30s. But you'll also be more "accomplished" and should have a larger selection of mates to choose from.

You are not a great fit for her; her temperament and expectations are vastly different from yours.

Good luck.
