@Godot

I caught you doing partial quotations last time, and here you do it again.

You left out this part of the CNN report: "The concerns overshadowed a better-than-expected sales report from Wal-Mart Stores and surprisingly strong readings on productivity and the services sector."

Wouldn't support your thesis, though. Also the fact that the US economy grew by 3.3% in the second quarter.

Oh, well, back to popping zits in front of the mirror for you.

Strange

The master of the catty (but content-free) comeback, Iokannan, has gone suddenly quite now that he/she's confronted with strong evidence of how Obama's past is about to rise up and sink him.

Should have nominated Hillary when you had the chance.

Not so quick, Tone in DC

And this is based on only last night's speech.

Let's wait until tomorrow to see what really happens.

Tone in DC

The Zogby poll is three weeks old. Useless.

Here's what the Gallup site says: "Barack Obama continues to hold a significant lead over John McCain, 49% to 42%, in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking results, which reflect the impact of the initial events of the Republican convention through early Wednesday, but not Sarah Palin’s highly-anticipated speech Wednesday evening." (emphasis mine). Or, significantly, McCain's rather blah speech tonight.

As I said, wait until tomorrow and, more reliably, after the weekend.

I might take this column more seriously ...

... if it expressed similar concern about the press' supine treatment of Obama for the first several months of the primary season.

Still to be truly reported is his questionable association with William Ayers, which he lied about when questioned in one of the debates ("just some guy in the neighborhood") and the Annenberg Challenge, which is increasingly looking like a scam to wrest money for Ayers' pet projects while turning down applicants that were genuine educational organizations in Chicago. Most important, after the tens of millions of dollars were spent (Obama's only executive experience), Chicago student performance was no better than before.

Finally, where's Greenwald's concern about the storm trooper tactics the Obama campaign is employing to try to keep this story suppressed?

@kitt

Actually, Steve Diamond is way ahead of me, so no need for me to start my own.

http://globallabor.blogspot.com/

He's got tons of info on the Obama/Ayers shadowy connection and the corruption and lying inherent to it.

And before you simply dismiss him as some right-wing propagandist, he's a self-professed leftist and labor organizer.

@DCLaw1

Forget Rev. Wright. The thing that will kill Obama is the Ayers connection (and not just because he's an unrepentant terrorist but because he and Obama ran a scam to benefit Ayers with money from the Annenberg Foundation), and Obama lied about it and is using gestapo tactics to stop the story from coming out.

Saturday, September 6, 2008 07:29 PM

@ DCLaw1

Be as sarcastic as you like. Go to the link I provided to Kitt and read the mountains of info on this. (Some is only just coming to light because the University of Chicago, which stored the papers, wouldn't release them until they were sued.)

The timing couldn't be worse for Obama. The worst info will be coming out in the few weeks before the election. And it's all documented in files with Obama's own signature on them.

Saturday, September 6, 2008 08:05 PM

@druidbros

Nice try, but no cigar. First, why did Obama lie about it when first asked about his connection to Ayers? ("He's just some guy in the neighborhood.") If it was an innocuous relationship, why not just say so?

Second, why did the University of Chicago stonewall for so long when some journalists requested to see the files? It wasn't until they were presented with a lawsuit that they finally relented.

Finally, why did the Obama campaign go into full stormtrooper mode and try to shout down and shut down the Chicago radio station doing a show about it? (An Obama spokesman was invited on the show but declined.) And why are they threatening to shut down TV stations in Pennsylvania that are running commercials about it?

It's not "just" a community school board. It was called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. It solicited millions of dollars in grants to supposedly improve education in Chicago. But it was a scam that funneled millions of dollars into Ayers' pet projects while turning down genuine educational organizations such as the Chicago Algebra Project. Besides, Chicago public school test scores actually declined after all the money was spent.

"it's clear from his academic record he was a miserable failure"

Actually, Bush graduated with a higher GPA than Kerry. And he earned an MBA from Harvard. They don't just hand those out.

Gore got multiple F's before he dropped out of divinity school. He flunked out of law school.

Kerry has a J.D. from Boston College.

@DCLaw1

You think that's controversial? That's basic Christian theology, and you can hear any number of variations on that on any Sunday in any number of Christian churches.

"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

You, of course, don't have to believe it, but there are millions of Christians who do.

But if you're wanting to make comparisons, check out the writings of James Cone, whom Rev. Wright claims as his intellectual godfather. God wants black people to destroy white people. Nothing about sin or judgment being done by God. It's racial hatred, plain and simple.

@paulpsd7

The papers on Ayers/Obama are not he said/she said. The ones examined so far (out of thousands) are damning.

There's a web site (http://globallabor.blogspot.com) that has comprehensive research on this, including .pdf files of CAC documents showing grant approvals to Ayers-connected "schools" while legitimate educational institutions were turned down.

No he said/she said about it, and that's why Obama is trying so hard to squash the story.

Monday, September 15, 2008 06:36 PM

@paulpsd7

I provided a link to a web site with lot of information, not just "inference" but the actual documents themselves.

Look on the righthand side of the page. There are probably about 10 or so articles, some of them quite long and well-documented.

And this is only the tip of the iceberg.
