Original article: McCain gets mean

Only One candidate denounced America and admitted to war crimes

- John McCain. He did this after he was tortured repeatedly for months by the Viet Cong.

And this same John McCain stood by while the Bush "administration" built a worldwide torture program.

This is the "character" of a sell-out hack who lept into the arms of a billionaire heiress when his wife and mother of his children was ill. And this is the best the Republicans could come up with?

He warns about "elites" from one of his seven houses where he parks his 13 cars. (I suppose his house is made of glass - and his C-student ignorance includes ignorance of old sayings about people who live in glass houses).

To the wingers posting here - you are either on the payroll, and it's a big payroll (which is about to get much much smaller), or simply a dupe. In either case, fuck you for ignorant authoritarian 'tards. All you know how to do is hate, break and loot, like your loser hero GW. What exactly has he made a success of in his life? Why would we want to elect another hireling (gigolo?) of the rich with only negative messages?

Divide and rule has worked for the greedy bastards who control this country. If you want to know the evilest candidate, look for the one whose entire speech is about saying bad things about the other guy. And then consider that Obama has mentioned NONE of the above in ANY of his speeches, despite their truth. WHy? He won't divide and rule - he has a positive message and platform. He doesn't have to sink to the lowest level as his only message like McCain and that odious woman Palin.

@ No Relation to Scooter

Beautiful? Even on the most superficial level, Bush is not this. And certainly at any deeper level, satanic ugliness, no?

Perhaps if he ends up where he should (in a Federal facility, natch), Mr. Bush will find plenty of new friends who appreciate his "beauty".

Ah - the beautiful Ranch - the "relatively young" "rancher"

Ugly mean aggressive rancher. Only knows how to break stuff and steal from his neighbors rancher. Habitual liar rancher. Torturing the hired help rancher. Robbing the poor and bribing the rich rancher. Secretly filming his neighbors' bathrooms rancher.

Bizaro jolly rancher.

Accountability! Accountability! Accountibility!

Thanks, Glenn, for holding these shifty political-types' feet to the fire.

The hardest thing to get past in holding these war criminals, who committed their crimes in our name (shameful, for fucks sake), is that the good old US of A has not been on the side of the angels for the past 8 years, anyway.

The road to redemption MUST include admitting guilt, asking forgiveness, and paying penance. We're a long way from that effort - and if it's not done voluntarily, the punishment will be worse.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap.

Senators think they're part of a cozy club where different rules apply

And in reality, they are. Members of the Corporatist oligarchy, above the law in many respects (or at least subject to different enforcement than the likes of us mere taxpayer consumers), and holding an exalted view of their own importance and entitlement to priviledge. They are the show-biz side of the oligarchy; the same priviledges apply in spades to corporate CEO's and their coteries and assorted hangers-on.

They work not for us but for their moneyed masters.

The fake war between the Parties is a device to divide and confuse the people and obscure the real agenda.

FISA was the first clue to "meet the new boss; same as the old boss"; the traitor Lieberman's continued elevation is another. Perhaps there will be some positive change, but I'm having a hard time refuting the working hypothesis that Americans really are too fucking dumb to be other than misled donkeys.

A Nation of spoiled cretinous babies led by greedy shameless liars

What ails America? That people like Joe Klein are accorded respect and actually listened to.

Thanks for calling some of these these flim-flammers on their shit, Glenn.

@MacGupta: Indira Ghandi was assasinated by her Sikh bodyguard

and Indians subsequently elected a Sikh Prime Minister, who leads today.

However, for several years after the assassination, Sikhs in India were persecuted, and left in droves for greener pastures in Canada, Australia, UK, South America, etc.; pretty much anywhere diasporic people landed up - although recently Sikhs have been much less welcome in the US due to their turbans. I've listened to a retired US Army major rant about "Arabs at the airport" - because he saw a few Sikh families checking in. He was trying to make people at a party afraid of this "threat" to justify the invasion of Iraq. Really.

To Glenn's excellent point - the knee-jerk reaction to punish any and all members of an identifiable group for the bad actions of a few is human and natural. But true leadership transcends, and helps people transcend the ape-world emotional response with respect for the LAW. And unlike the crew of crooks in charge of the US Government, and apparently the US Military as well, true leadership requires honesty. Not more self-serving lies.

The worst part of it is this retired major is spreading hatred and lies and destruction on my fucking nickel. This is hard to forgive. But not as hard to forgive (only if repented of) as it was for Indian Hindus to elect a Sikh.
