  • Please

[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]

Post a review of Quatermass and the Pit, it would appear to be more pertinent in today's day and age..

  • The president, in denial and on a crusade

[Read the article: The president, in denial and on a crusade]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Combine blind arrogance, borderline paranoia, quasi-religious fervor and petty vanity and what do you get? George Bush, recklessly in charge of the most dangerous nation on Earth, that's what you get!

  • Wonder Showzen

    [Read the article: "Showzen" people]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Only one extremely bad episode (the reverse the show). Otherwise wonderful entertainment and that's good enough for me, thank god somebody is creative out there. Clarence waking and asking the homeless if they were dreaming an American dream knocked my socks off for good!

  • Yes,

[Read the article: Colbert's smart bomb]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

do shut up Bob. That's better!

  • I love it

[Read the article: Colbert: Not just a flop, but "rude" and "a bully" too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Colbert has done something that Richard Cohen and most others have not, as a fake reporter/pundit (if you will) he has done a better job than most of the press staff combined. I'm happier than shit on a tulip! Finally, somebody said something to the P(resident) that won't go away, that sunk in to his pep squad and provided a terse and unkind wake up call to the press (corpse). If they want to live in la-la land so be it but don't expect the rest of us to be spoonfed by dimwits with a guilded sense of accountability far and away less binding than that of Stephen Colbert insulting the Chimp god and his cheerleaders.

  • Christians are victims?

[Read the article: "Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What a laugh! More like victims of righteous fervor. I'm gay, why should I have anything but contempt for these people when it is obvious I will ever be despised? If dominion ever came into the equation I would raise lions and host a pit as a side business! At least then there would be a legitimate outcry. I love how one can renounce all rational thinking in the name of "God". It is "God" after all, what else trumps that? Christian = Ultimate lemming!

  • Happy Mother's Day (without the "carriage return")

    [Read the article: Mother inferior]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I will always fear my Mother's passing because I will either be the head of healthcare at that point (my brother's are completely inept and make no attempt to hide the fact) or play some disjointed supporting role wherein I do what anyone does who has never understood their mother, her habitual need to meddle and seek out conflict or create her own conflict when there was no legitimate tragedy to be found. I will still suffer regardless. My relationship with my Mother is in some ways very similar (in effect, at least) to the author and not so similar at all as I have no children and my Mother whom I suspect got pregnant every time her marriage at an early age seemed to be going South did not have to go to such great lengths to bare children. She has never changed, and although in one extraordinary moment while my sister's life was in great peril, she apologized to me about her abuse when we (including her) were children in a surreal twilight driveway experience, I will never be able to reconcile my relationship with her. I don't know if I dispatched her apology with "Mom, that is water under the bridge, we have all grown past that" in an attempt to diffuse a maelstrom of unpleasant memory, or secretly refute her genuine attempt at redemption for our haunted pasts or maybe even to deny her the pivotal moment in our relationship where things would be new and hopeful. Of course, now there is new drama and conflict and meddling to be done and that distant surreal moment is simply that, distant and surreal. I'll call her in a hour or two, slip into the only role I know how to play on the telephone (strikingly similar to herself with anti-Bush-isms and character assassinations, or evaluations of other family members who aren't playing by the rules, or maybe a brief mention of my little sister who hasn't made contact with my Mother in 12 years). Yes, Happy Mother's Day. I hope it's quick and tidy, with any luck, like her passing.

  • I believe in Karma

[Read the article: The lost boys of Colorado City]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Or at least I used to.. I also like the word "humanity", it's supposed to get you all excited about humans and the human condition. At least somebody put forth the effort to help some of these kids and bring them some productive and positive structure. That wanna-be theocrat pedophile should be stuck on a pig pole, but would I then be sacrificing my humanity?

  • Pathetic

[Read the article: They called me a child pornographer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But terror is our national dogma now; "Pedophiles and terrorists and gays, Oh My!" Innocent until proven guilty, my ass. Eckerds should be sued out of business, that police department should be restocked as well.

  • Puritans

[Read the article: They called me a child pornographer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Here, here! Maybe it's payback for me spamming Freds Phelps site with emails. They all in the same basket, Fred Phelps, the "Puritans", and self righteous mental vacumn chambers who are probably afraid of their own genitalia..

  • Abortion

[Read the article: Abortion under siege in Mississippi]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm pretty certain most women don't have an abortion with glee in their hearts. It's hilarious that on one hand these well-to-do "Christians" can motivate such an outcry against the killers of babies and on the other hand proudly display "God bless America" and "Support our troops".. I'm pretty certain George Bush (commanding our troops) has killed more than just a few babies.. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. I was born in Mississippi! Some fetuses weren't, some women had to go through what nobody but women can undergo or understand. I can't wait for all these "Christians" to go to Hell.

  • To the old-timer

[Read the article: I did the right thing for the planet, but now I'm bored out of my mind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Maybe you should be a little more "selfish". I love your rant, "drink a beer and paint a picture" to keep creativity alive. I don't think anyone is being selfish by wanting/seeking an occupation and ideal that gives meaning and satisfaction to their life. Out of all the comments, yours is the one that says "Me,me,me" more than anyone else. Did you walk 10 miles through the snow without shoes to get to school too? LOL!
